Well then you are too even if you like the change. If you feel there’s no point complaining, then there’s no point arguing with those complainers either.
One is a reward meaning it needs to be rewarding. The other is a cost which needs to be balanced against:
- the discount for players who are exalted with Anglers
- the price players will charge via the Auction House for the non vendor items
#2 is really important because if people can pay 50 gold for water walking versus 1,000 to 10,000 (depending on mat requirements and costs and server economy) how many people would actually bother with the more expensive items? That AH barons can buy out to jack the price up on if the demand is high?
I can’t wait for this change to take effect. I’m so dam sick of using Skygolem and Water Strider on every single one of my characters. Both are bound.
There shouldn’t be any cost to people that have already worked and PAID for the mount that was shown as being account wide AND having waterwalking. This is Fraud, plain and simple (these mounts now have real world monetary value thanks to Blizz introducing the wowtoken)
Would a car dealership get away with selling you a car, then a few years down the line, turn up at your door, saying, they’ve NOW changed how their business practice operates, so they are taking all the wheels off of your car, and if you want them back you are going to have to pay for them individually.
No, It’s fraud!
Would a real-estate business sell a house, then a few years down the road turn up at your door, saying, they’ve NOW changed how their business practice operates, and they are taking all the house back and your only getting a single room, and if you want the others back you have to pay for each and every single room to get back what you originally paid for.
No, because it’s FRAUD.
It shouldn’t matter whether the product is physical or digital, because it’s the same FILTY business practice regardless.
In what way is the water strider ability much stronger than herbing without being dismounted? Water walking breaks on any damage, if you’re in combat before reaching the water, without being hit, it still won’t water walk, and even if you get far enough away that you get out of combat, half the time, it is impossible to get it to water walk without leaving the water and then walking back in to it.
I see threads on here questioning if CMs and devs even play the game anymore, and I roll my eyes, but seeing this reply… I finally understand it.
With barding, so you’re never dismounted, and herbalism enchant on gloves, in a sky golem, I can easily make a few thousand gold in 10 minutes. Meanwhile, the water strider constantly breaks or doesn’t work properly.
And this change is really a slap in the face. I’m not the type of person to farm things. I rarely go back through old raids for transmog, I don’t go out herbing all the time (see the aforementioned 10 minute time frames).
But when I came back in Legion, and found out about the water strider mount, I specifically went out of my way to both farm the rep, as well as run a multitude of broken Timewalking dungeons in order to gain the rep to get the mount. This is time that I could have put to better use, doing things I actually enjoyed, instead of working on getting the reputation to buy a mount. A mount that then cost somewhere around 5000g.
Now you want to say, we know you spent all that time and gold to work on getting this, so we will give you 1 free water walking shoe… but you’ll need to buy more if you want them on any other toon.
All of my what? This is not a QoL change for anyone who already has the mount, and it sucks.
I’ve been playing since vanilla, and I’m scratching my head over how this was considered a good idea by anyone who plays the game.
Edit to add: To be clear, I think the idea of water walking equipment is a great QoL change, but not to also take away water walking from the mount(s) that people have already worked for and purchased. If you can make an exception for the Sky Golem, an exception can be made for the water strider.
Something I would like to get your perspective on, how many people that currently have the strider, would have still gone out of their way to farm the reputation and pay for it, if it did NOT have its ability to walk on water?
You don’t need Anglers rep to buy the item, but good try. And yea I do realize there is another water strider, same applies.
Look up 2 Blue posts, he states that it IS a requirement to need the rep to purchase. Ptr is bugged (as ususal)
Good try at what?
the auction house isn’t going to give you a discount.
So you need Anglers rep to buy the shoes now? The 50g for people without the mount and 40g for people with it is incorrect? Can you post a quote or a link? Guess something changed overnight, my bad.
EDIT: so what I’m getting from the last few blue posts is they really, really didn’t think this through and the CMs have no idea what is actually going on. The items on the PTR could flat out be wrong. The shoes could still be crafted?
Exhausting.
The PTR Spell changes are live on the PTR and as i said, they don;t care what the community wants. They are going the way they want regardless of feedback.
- [Crimson Water Strider] Removing -This mount walks on water in non-Battleground areas until damage is taken. Account wide. Account wide. 1.5 sec cast.
On the contrary - I’ve lost the ability to simply log into a mount-capable alt and instantly, with no additional hassle, have a water-walking mount. Whether it costs me gold or crafting materials, the cost to me is time (time to earn gold, time to farm materials) - and that’s time that I’ve previously spent with the guarantee I wouldn’t have to spend any FURTHER time on it.
The problem is that they’re not respecting players’ already-spent time. I’m all for the equipment, but the one main factor that’s going to push me away from playing the game is if I feel like my time’s being wasted. This is another step in that direction.
I’m all for the mount equipment, and I realize blizz does not want people to have WW on one mount and anti-daze on another so thats why they are making the strider require equipment.
But in all fairness and respect to the players who pay their salaries blizz should give strider owners… and anyone who decides to do either of the two grinds In the future the floaties for FREE on ALL their characters now made and in the future made as long as the original rep grinded character is not deleted. If bliz needs to put a price on it because its on a vendor then 1 copper.
To do anything less is taking away hard earned treasure from players.
Was this really so game breaking? Blizzard “fixing” things that aren’t broken again.
Quality of life changes are good. Not bad.
The impetus for the change seems to be too many players using the Water Strider too much of the time.
Instead of adding a greater variety of water walking mounts or mounts that swim at mount speed and can also walk on land Blizzard is going for single character use consumables, with a cost while also allowing for silly immersion breaking water walking dinosaurs.
Cheap, lazy, not at all creative, but easily restricted or tossed out in 9.0 like Garrisons, Artifacts, Flying at max level for gold, RaF bonuses, XP potions, etc.
Clown world coming to WoW
$ATVI down to $45 lol
They need to stop napalming the community
Don’t fix what’s not broken
I ground out the rep for the blue strider when it was current content. We had no flying then. It took months of dailies that were inconvenient to get to because of mob density. Also a lot of fishing. Then I paid thousands of gold to buy it. I also got the red one when the content was current.
My reward for doing all that is 40 gold? That’s what they are saying all that time and gold spent was worth.
And there is the question.
This is a sleezy way to ensure we can’t just cheese by their obstacles and if we want water walking, we won’t be able to stack it with daze removal. They are simply creating more annoyance but hiding behind “fairness” or “more choice.”
False, Pandaria had flying at launch. Nice try.
Your reward was a mount with waterwalking that you used for years.
Please, just ignore players like this Blizzard.
