Water Strider Discussion

Ok…How can i say this to where you will understand. let’s say you had the ability to heal yourself. It has been happening for years. You didn’t have to buy anything additional to have this ability.

The next day, Blizzard takes that ability away. In order to gain the ability back you have to buy mats or equipment slot to make that ability happen again. This is consumable, you will need to by more in order to continue.

This goes with the water strider. We lost that ability we had for years. Now in order to fix this temporarily, we have to buy something to make the water stider work. again these items are consumable…

If you’re going to repeat yourself at least get it right.

So far we know:

Crimson Water Strider-only owners are out of luck and will lose time/gold to get back what was taken from them.

New strider buff breaks on falling damage, old strider didn’t.

There’s a report that the new water strider can’t even re-enable the WW buff if you mount up while swimming.

Always-Water-Walk-by-default means the default is NO SAFE FALL INTO DEEP WATER. = more repair bills

And probably other stuff. And, right now, MANY of us have no confidence that Blizzard will fix any of those things before they go live with this transition.

So please, stop saying we’re losing “nothing”. Those things may be trivial to you, but they are MORE THAN NOTHING.

my concern, is that they’re not a troll, and they truly don’t understand what’s going on… or why people are so upset.

SO I had the ability to heal myself and now I can choose to still heal myself, OR I have tow other options instead. I think I’d just get the free “heal yourself” in the mail, put it on my toon, and never even think about it again. Anyway, goodnight!

The classic response of someone who knows they’re wrong and doesn’t want to admit it. sigh

Based on their post below yours, I share your concern.

Really? Well if I am wrong I guess Blizz will change it. We’ll have to see how it turns out in 8.2 lol

Clearly. And said troll cares about himself how he wants to play. I never thought a mount would hurt a person because said mount is ugly.

I guess they do not teach “kids play nice” in school

That’s not even remotely what I meant.

This is where you’re wrong:

Agreed.

This is still nothing more than the illusion of choice. Yes, other options exist, but you lose something you already worked to get if you choose one of them.

It’s an interesting idea, poorly implemented. Standard Blizzard fare these days.

One hopes people will continue to voice their concern over what is changing. What worries me; if this change rolls on to live, what else will be in store in the coming future.

In Nobully responce: What concerns me, these are the people Blizzards seems to listen to.

I do apologize if I offended anyone here.

Have a good night all. Take care, Stay safe, have fun in Azeroth and beyond!

I’m betting it’s some off-duty Blizzardian, totally messing with us.

/me cocks his hat and winks conspiratorially.
“Heyyyy, what say we fill dat character’s [Inflatable Mount Shoes] with CEMENT and make him sleep with da fishes, like Trothak The Shark Puncher!”

Why has Blizzard always been against alt accessibility? Re-grinding everything instead of being account bound like most other modern MMOs is really outdated and incredibly daunting. It actually prevents alts not encourage them. Is shared progress so bad? I would like everything to be account bound like GW2 or ESO, but it’s far too little too late at this point. I’m just pointing out that it would be good for the game for those that still play.

I like the water strider the way it is. The animation makes me smile. I earned the mount by grinding rep and paying for it. I do not like the idea of Blizzard taking away the water walking and then “giving” it back to me for gold. I don’t care if you send me a free “sample” in the mail. Please leave water walking on the water striders. I do not mind if it has no extra mount slots. Leave it alone!! Let it continue to do what it has always done. That is my choice. That is why I got it in the first place. Taking away the ability under the guise of giving me more choices does not fool me. I think it is great if Blizz wants to let ppl buy water walking on other mounts. In the meantime, please leave my water strider unchanged.

On PTR, you not only take damage and lose water walking if you jump into the water, even from a small height, and once you’re in the water you cannot get back to the surface again to regain water walking.

So no water walking now unless you step into the water from an area level with it. No regaining water walking while still in the water after being attacked. This is a significant nerf.

And to get this nerfed ability on any of our lower than level 100 toons we have to have bought a strider, portal to Stormwind/Orgrimmar, portal to Jade Forest and fly to Nat’s spot in Krasarang Wilds on the 100+ toon which bought it, buy it and post it out. It’s not available at the garrison even for those with the red strider.

No-one on PTR has yet reported finding the equipment on any of the crafting professions.

And this is precisely why this whole charade is happening. Sneaking a substantial nerf to the water strider in under the guise of a “new feature” that nobody asked for and which, at least on the PTR at the moment, seems entirely to have been done to nerf the water strider.

It also will achieve a few other of Blizzard’s goals, increasing the time it takes to do things to create the illusion of more content and up the MAUs and DAUs they report to shareholders, and increase the gold we spend, upping the tokens players purchase to gain gold.

We bought our original striders with no strings, no hidden fees, no rent, no enable/disable costs.

The best way to emulate that in the new system is to simply ADD [Anglers’ Water Striders] to our Heirlooms Tab.

That way, as before, we’re not sacrificing gold, crafting reagents, and bag space to carry around ‘spare water boots’ in case we end up in a situation where we need to switch back from other equipment.

We’ll still have to craft or buy the newer stuff, and might actually craft/buy MORE if reverting to water walking is free for people who unlocked the old striders.

Just to reiterate:

Prices on the PTR seldom resemble prices that are instituted on the Live Client.

PTR = Public Test Realm

The idea is to make it easier to test things without needlessly farming gold or resources therefore things are cheap on the PTR to facilitate testing.

Yes yes and people said the paragon caches wouldnt reward 4k gold either because Blizz = bad and yet they do on live.
