Water Strider Discussion

Total Rubbish.

Does the damage cancel the water walking in the PTR? The live version of the Strider takes damage if you land on the water from high enough, but doesn’t lose the ability. I’m off the PTR for the evening, so I can’t check myself.

Either way, just point your camera down into the water, and it won’t hit hard. Same as when DK’s would path of frost in the water jump in BRF LFR and kill half the raid. Camera down to avoid the trolls.

Good for you, sir! I feel like Nietzsche’s horse. It’s like, you are all beating a dead horse. It’s probably cathartic for you, but you always have an option to unsub. Word on the vocal street is that BfA is bad, people are bailing in droves, the protal room is supposedly a bad thing, and now this. What will the flavor of the week be next…

Oh hurumph! Hurumph good sir!

What if they gave us the option to have our water strider left alone, but if we choose that, we don’t get an equipment slot? By that I mean, let us choose to opt out of this change altogether. I keep my strider that all my characters can ride for free, but I don’t get the option to change to another ability through the equipment system.

I would jump on that in a heartbeat.

Well, while we both know it is not to be, that would be totally fair. As in, you have NO equipment slots on ANY of your mounts at all, right?

Correct. You opt out of the system altogether–for all of your characters. Everything stays like it is now.

Oh yeah, that’s 100% fair.

I suppose the golem would need to have it’s OP power taken away as well to keep things in line with the system.

Still don’t like it, but I appreciate this.

They should have done at least as much for the removed portals.

I like my strider. It lets me take short cuts over water since I can’t fly. And I can’t fly because some dev got bent and doesn’t want flying at all.

I earned both striders when they were current.

Every time I turn around Blizzard is taking something away that I earned. Every expansion since WOD achievement points disappear because it was turned into a fete of strength.

I want my WATER (get it - water as in walks on water) strider to stay a water strider.

So they are going to give me shoes to put on my strider for ONE character. Why would I want to pay even 1 gold for something that I’ve earned and had for years.

The point is you are taking away something I earned, something I put in the time to get.

Why should I do anything in the game. The dev team will just get their panties in a wad at some point and take it away under the guise of giving you something better that really isn’t.

Leave the water strider alone like you are leaving the sky golem alone.

I’m sick of this c r a p

Me to, but clearly not an option.

Obvious blizzard found out that the old strider let’s us cheat some 8.2 mechanic, and blizzard can’t think of a better way to fix it, or figured this was a cheaper/lazier way to deal with it and legacy stuff be hanged.

Well, you say obvious, but it could have been all manner of things, more variables than we will ever know. At least we know what will be and can prepare for it. So, if you do not have a water strider yet, and you are reading this, MoP time walking is coming and you can get the mount in one day instead of doing three dailies that take 10 minutes total to complete counting travel time, for 21 days. Either way, you have time to get free inflatable boots before 8.2 and another mount in the journal.

They are already leaving the sky golem alone. It will have no equipment slots. The same should be done with the water strider

Wouldn’t work, they’d need to give all mounts water walking, and then it would. But, either way, no matter the subjective perspective, wishful thinking, or opinion, it’s going to go the way they said it will.

You accidentally made Borderlands.

The thing is, the golem has an ability that’s not duplicated by equipment, while the strider does. They don’t want players to have the option of having a water walking mount while still putting a different equipment choice on the rest of their mounts.

Believe me, I want to keep the strider as it is, too, but I realize no amount of pleading with Blizz is going to change things. This equipment slot garbage is a done deal.

i am sure it would be relatively easy for them to come up with an herbing piece of gear to fill in for all your mounts.

Oh yeah, totally, if they give us a piece of mount equipment that allows us to gather while mounted, I could see them do like they did with the strider. Actually, good idea Sabine! That is a cool idea. I mean, there will be a lot of “But muh golem!” threads, still it would be another interesting piece of equipment to throw into the mix for us to choose between. I think they could really come up with some neat things for this.

Just chiming in to voice my support of treating the Water Strider like the Sky Golem, i.e., leave the Water Strider as is and do not allow it to benefit from mount equipment. From the best I can tell, this is a win-win all the way around.

It is also a chance for Blizzard to practice what they preach and listen to their players…
