Water Strider Discussion

I think the Angler’s Raft has some requirement that keeps my low level toons from using it. Something about Pandaren Fishing? I don’t know much about the new system involving profession levels but yeah. Pandaren Fishing is the requirement to use that toy. /shrug

Surely this can’t be illegal!

It sounds not so different to me wandering into my neighbour’s house, removing their chairs, and expecting them to be grateful because I’ll not only return them free, but I’ll let my neighbour sit on his tables and lamps as well.

We don’t want there to be a wrong choice when it comes to choosing what to sit on, go we?

Of course the rest of his family will not be able to use them any more unless they each pay me a fee - but the fee will be “greatly reduced”!!!

If anyone wants to move the chairs while they vacuum that will incur another fee, and then naturally there will be another fee when they move them back again.

If I can get away with providing such choices for my neighbours I’ll be set for life.

All good fun, but to be a fair analogy, your neighbors would have to agree to your shenanigans. That’s where we say “Ok Blizzard…I wanna play this game…I agree to let you do as you see fit…”
Would your neighbors also agree?

The vacuuming part wasn’t super accurate but everything else was lol.

However, let’s say they did want to vacuum. They would have to be a death knight or shaman.

It is EXACTLY this. The obvious answer that would anger no one is to do with the strider what they did with the Sky Golem. The reason they are not, is because they wanted to restrict the strider and lost to player pushback.

This is just the devs petty revenge for losing before that they are trying to hide behind being “reasonable” by offering a new way for players to get something without going back to old content.

It is just the portals all over again and part of their now standard routine. Pretend to add something new, remove things that have been around for years - pretend that the adding something new requires that the old things be removed. Expect players to buy into the BS.

Over and over and over… until you run out of customers.

Could you break down more of the iceberg here in the OP from the details and concerns covered throughout the thread?

(Please note that I am of a neutral position here. I’m neither for nor against the below referenced upcoming updates.)

I’m making this post for a few reasons. Firstly, I notice mega-threads have been made to consolidate complaints focusing on future-mount equipment as well as the removal of inherent mount buffs, namely the Waterstrider’s water-walking ability. That obviously makes this information and discussion surrounding it less openly controversial. This way people do not see waves of topics (albeit we see a lot still) regarding Waterstrider-related grief. I don’t believe that’s fair and entirely precludes an actual representation of player-reaction.

Second of all, I read yesterday Blizzard proclaiming to be responding to criticism, but by quoting a post made by a player who is pro, who is for this upcoming change. It read very disingenuously and there was no real acknowledgment of any points made against said nerf.

I feel that a civil, reasonable and frank discussion should be had here. And so, me being on the fence and not sure how I feel about this update, I truly want to hear from those against it. I want to see your perspective.

Why don’t you approve of the upcoming Waterstrider nerf? I’d really like to be able to collect better arguments against this issue to help myself and others better understand why you are in opposition.

(Again, please let this discussion be civil, polite and well-mannered, and reason-based. Thanks!)

What they are doing sort of makes sense, if you keep in mind Blizzard’s primary aim is to increase token sales, and their secondary aim is to increase time played.

Just don’t get confused by thinking such decisions are really about striders, water walking or choice. These are simply carrots they have plucked from our game to pressure us into wasting more time and parting with more gold.

The silly thing is they are driving so many players away there’s no way they will keep making enough on sales to cover the sub losses. However short term planning pays the top guys big dividends in bonuses for as long as the company lasts.

you need Pandaren fishing to 75; used to be fishing 525 overall.
Trust blizzard to complicate things, just so they can brag on social media about how busy they are.

So, just in general…what do we think is a fair price to allow alts to use any account-wide item they didn’t directly earn? Should things like toys cost less than mounts? Maybe a transmog discount for the toon that originally unlocked the appearance? Blizzard needs to know how much of our gold it’s fair to siphon off.

I tried to keep the top post from talking about other things other than the main topic.

I’d be happy to add things if you want though. I’m just not sure if it’s accepted on the forums to have multiple topics or not for a thread.

Not to be contentious, but if you can’t collect enough valid reasons from the 100s of existing replies, then I don’t know how to help you.

I guess not, and if I did find a way to force this on them they would just move house.

It’s hard to get folk to voluntarily stay around and be your victim - unless you’re providing something addictive.

PTR is up now. Let’s go guys!

In there like swimwear!

Currently loading into the world. The suspense is killing me I gotta see these prices.

No, just Pandaren fishing of 1 now.
I was using the raft tonight on this toon and that’s all it has - never been to Pandaria.

The ptr crashed on me! WHAT!

I am against it, but only for the way it’s being done.

I do have the strider, and I love it’s unique ability. What I don’t like is when Blizz goes: “Here’s a carrot…go ahead and get it” - then later decide that the carrot was somehow incorrect (being used too much) and needs to be removed or “fixed”.

My second problem is the way they announce it, provide only cursory details - then ask us for a discussion about it. WTH?

  1. There has been no straightforward communication on exactly how the equipment/strider change will be implemented. (if I missed it, please link)

  2. The implementation/change is coming on the heels of several other changes to the game which seem to most to be inane/unnecessary. So again, more information would be nice (and possibly quell some of the outrage).

The things they are adding, are already in the game (in other forms) - so why do they feel it needs to change now?

Huh? What does that have to do with my comment. Yes, I am forced to ride only this mount ever as I am either going to have to ignore most herbs or spend twice as long picking them because I’ll have to fight mobs every other one. I don’t really care that I have to do this, because it’s just nice to be able to stay mounted there, but when I heard about this change I was hoping it would apply to the herb mount too. I see no reason it can’t, and I will be very disappointed if it didn’t.
