Water Strider Discussion

A bunch of guildees have been considereding FFXIV since the beginning of BfA - this might push us all to make the move.

Once again this company seeks to remove something that already exists so they can introduce it back to you as “additional content.”

The gaming industry is cancerous right now.

This era of gaming will be considered the second dark ages of gaming.

8.2 is also when bardings and stirrups will stop working since they specify Kul Tiras and Zandalar only. Blizzard is timing this perfectly to phase out the ability to stack mount effects and hoping no one will notice because of flying and the shiny new mount equipment system.

But in 9.0, you won’t again.

It’s fine that your game play style isn’t impacted by lack of water walking, but many people currently utilize that mount for the account wide water walking ability. Why should those people have that functionality removed to solve an alleged problem that isn’t really a problem at all?

Yep, just like when the blue in the portal thread asked us to estimate how much extra travel time the removal of the portals would cost us. That’s a not so clever way of trying to find out how much we’re willing to be inconvenienced. Same with this.

I’m (still) out of likes, so here’s a +1 and thumbs up. :+1:

Its been interesting to see people say that this isnt/wont be a slippery slope and more will not be taken away later. This is the slippery slope. We have been on it for years now. Once they took away flying and repackaged it as “pathfinder” this next move was bound to come.

‘Forced’? Please.
Just
stop.
You’re making as much sense as Bornakk.
you can talk 'round all you like, you will NEVER convince me that the steaming pile the devs are offering is chocolate mint ice cream.

I do older content for transmog and if there are mounts and pet involved. I am sure I am not the only person that does this. So, yes, the mount, pet, and everything else collecting is a main feature for many in this game. Not everyone plays to raid, dungeon grind, and so forth. There are many however that do exactly what I initially stated and only do those things with their entire playing time of this game. So clearly, if have not a clue what you are talking about with this statement.

Because that would make sense.

That’s designed that way. Any damage stops the walking on water effect.
Like everything else though, it gets (pardon the pun) “bugged”, and won’t start working again. Like being stuck in combat.

Has anyone tested this on the PTR yet?

No damage takes place at all. Just running straight.

Oh,so we wouldn’t be able to use them, great Blizzard.

Some of that is also camera angles, the game thinks you want to head down into the water so it lets you. Its not an issue on land so it seems more wonky than it is meant to be on water.

I don’t know and what’s it to you, anyway?
I am paying for this subscription, NOT YOU!
I will play what I want and when and I am responsible to NOBODY ELSE about it!

A thought, and in the spirit of this debate and the point you made: how often does Blizzard CMs aka ‘blues’ post responses on PTR?

What they could’ve done instead is give us a wider variety of mounts that can walk on water. Boats for example (it’s stupid how boat mounts can’t sail on water). I’m sure there are other ideas for mounts that can walk on water by default.

I’d rather have that than nerf the mount named “water strider” that will no longer stride on water by default.

I’m confused by the logic here. I very rarely worry about achievements or mounts. In Mists you introduced a water walking mount as well as having mounts being available account wide. That is the only reason that I ground the rep to get the mount, now you are going to invalidate the work that I did back then? I am at a total loss as to the reasoning behind this quality of life change. Why should anyone have to pay for something that they worked in game to receive?

Literally on auto run. I get your point, it’s not perfect, but it should be. Especially if they are going to turn into a main feature or something. Going down in the water should requires you to move your player down with your mouse or a hotkey. Further, when you dismount, and remount, it can fail again for no reason. I use the mount every day, so it’s not like I’m manufacturing this out of thin air.

Agreed! and oh, the memories of ‘people who are never wrong’!
Blizzard is rapidly making a place on the fools on a sinking ship that insist everything’s alright.
