Water Strider Discussion

Well yes but it is hard to do when it is obfuscated with such “systems”. In other words they know what they are doing as they can nerf it with prepatch or level restrict next expansion so you have to re-earn the mount abilities.

That is my prediction.

Strength turns to intellect then to agility. Which was a thing Blizzard already created to save bag space anyway. Also just like set bonuses switching from spec to spec.

Looks don’t really matter since you can change that on a whim anyway regardless of what you are actually wearing.

They seems to be stuck more of the MOBA type game design and not a clue how to make anything RPGish…

Well MOBA have more depth and better talent systems at this point which is ironic. It is ironic that first person shooters and MOBAs have more RPG elements in them now compared to WoW. Strange era of gaming indeed.

While I’m here…

I assume from this statement that shaman water walking and DKs Path of Frost will remain as is, since they are spells, but can be used alongside the mount equipment?
And that, in the developers vision, is not OP, but the waterstrider is or would be if left untouched?

EDIT - here’s a novel idea. Give the water strider the same, what 10min(?), spell.

I literally don’t understand what you’re trying to say here. Low level gear pieces behind reputation walls?

For professions the BOP crafting items can always be used. Yes, that’s how it works. Already. I don’t understand what your point is here.

As far as the reputation goes. I mean… heaven forbid you level an alt and not immediately have access to everything that someone’s main does. The whole point of playing an alt is to experience the content again while making different choices. Are you telling me it’s exceedingly oppressive having to wait a couple weeks to get characters to revered so they have the rank 3 recipes? Would you rather just have nothing to do once you hit max level?

Having people use a single mount 100% of the time is annoying and dumb in a game where mount collection is a main feature of the game.[/quote]

Um… mount collection isn’t a main feature of the game.

If I could explain why Blizzard ignores so much I would be a billionaire by now. As it stands they talk so little we are just left to assume more often than not.

This is subjective. What is small to you, who doesnt even have the mount and expressed no desire for it, isnt small for others. Many see it as part of a larger whole of Blizzard taking things away and pruning down the game.

I dont PvP but I wont call your concerns on it a small thing either. I cant force your topic to be the popular topic but I also wouldnt try and bring down other topics because my own topics arent being focused on.

Because transmog is a thing… what looks would you unlock by changing a character like that? Way too much trouble to begin to unravel. Class change is very unrealistic. Beside if the other systems were account-wide then just boosting a character would put you in striking distance of being able to get raid ready on an alt.

In addition to the above post I have made here. This decision, like the Portal Room comes close to a time where in the game we will be flying in very short order again. So why now, why this decision now at this point in the process of this expansion?

The problem has existed for nearly a decade. Yet in the middle of an expansion the decision has been made to strip for whatever reason the ability of a mount to do its one intended job and that is walk on water.

This decision comes at a point where in a matter of months this will not be an issue. Once flying is back into the current content the use of this strider as well as these other Mount Equipment will simply be meaningless across the board.

So it begs the question why now? Why crank up a player base that does not need to be cranked up over something as trivial as removing the ability to water walk from a mount that its intended purpose was to walk on water and do nothing else.

Regardless if I am getting Mount Equipment for free in the mail or not for this mount. The problem here is that there was not problem in leaving this mount alone with it one intended purpose intact. It does not have to be given the ability to do anything else other than walk on water, leave it alone!!!

This forcing people to circumvent the inability for designers to actually design features and content to fit every conceivable means necessary to navigate the content or features is on the designers and decision makers to see through long before these items or in this case mounts hit the retail version of this game or any other game. This problem is not a player problem. For those saying “Well I get something largely free in the mail to fix the problem” is not really fixing or creating a solution. All it is doing is creating something that was not a problem with making it now a problem that in a sense will only create more problem. So this mailing something is not really addressing the underlining problem of Blizzard own screwed the pooch mentality. It is applying a band-aid to a problem that until now was not a problem, but a problem to Blizzard, not to the player.

For those saying “Well I hated the look of the Strider and I am glad that I can now use whatever mount of my choosing” are simply not looking at the problem that should be looked at here from their perspective. Blizzard could literally give you the ability to buy a equipment for your other mounts and leave the Strider alone as they seem to be doing with the Sky Golem. People who choose to continue to use the Strider as intend can simply go on using it. For those that want to spend gold on the ability for another mount to be able to do the same can spend gold to their own hearts content. No one would be forcing you to continue to use the Strider, but at the same token the players that do not want to spend endless gold to their hearts content on stupid for the sake of stupid other than just adding more stupid means of gold sinking to the game can simply go on using amount that they spent months grinding out to use as intended.

oh come on. Mount collecting is SO a main feature of the game. Check your UI… under the COLLECTIONS tab. (on the main screen)

Mounts are a focus of the game since you use them all the time but i don’t consider the mount tab or collecting them in general to be a main attraction. It’s like a side hobby basically.

It’s a feature of the game, sure. It’s not a main feature or the main point of it. Really, it’s a side effect of design changes over the years.

Could you imagine if Blizzard marketed it as a main feature? As a selling point?

COME, JOURNEY INTO AZEROTH, WHERE YOUR CHARACTER CAN RIDE SEVERAL HUNDRED DIFFERENT MOUNTS.

Asmongold’s mount-off streams/youtubes are probably the most popular viewed creator content in WoW (aside from official stuff and the world first streams)

A lot of people. Like A LOT of people collect mounts as their primary focus in this game.

That’s the great thing about WoW… there’s something cool for everyone.

Thats a depressing statement.

I don’t mind grinding for a temporary reward, so long as I >KNOW< it’s a temporary perk/bonus/ability that I’m working for.

And if you’re going to renege on unrestricted bonus abilities granted in the past… sell the idea better.

You Have New Mail!

Subject: About your Water Striders…
Be glad your other mounts weren’t burned to a crisp in Teldrassil or blighted to death in Undercity, like your poor unfortunate Azure and Crimson Water Striders. For the Horde, Champion! For the Horde!

The average number of mounts per player is like 129.

Every expansion with new map usually have Water Strider having an advantage… skipping/avoiding terrains. Skipping and avoiding terrains on new content is not how Blizz meant how we play the game. Just like flying. We are not allowed to fly on new content to skip stuffs. This is the same thing with Water Strider.

They want a system that would block water walking at the start of the new content… and unlock it later on succeeding patches.

That’s why you have to be a DK with water walking on new contents. Oops… oh no… dont take away water walking on my DK.

I know right. When are we gonna get rid of the AOE looting and voice acting? If I wanted that nonsense I’d go play SW:TOR! /s

Just because a feature exists in another game, that also doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist in this one, especially if it’s popular in the other game.

It really is sickening, to listen to the people who want to call us “lazy” for opposing this ridiculous change with the water strider. As if you’re all special, because you think it’s “overpowered”.
I don’t give one tinker’s damn if you think it’s overpowered. It’s a matter of how much time “I” want to dedicate to playing this game. If I have to suddenly start swimming, being forced for a time to WASTE TIME doing the same thing I used to on the strider that I WORKED for and have had for YEARS, I am NOT going to be happy about it. This is MY time you’re messing with. MINE. If these malcontents and sanctimonious A**hats want to cry about the time “I” get to save, then screw them. I put in more than enough time doing WQ’s, raiding, farming for Azerite, mats for my professions, saving gold, emissary quests, the war campaign, and so on.
I have about had it with blizzard devs trying to force me to waste MY DAMN TIME. They had to f with flying, now they find the need to do the same thing with one of the cutest mounts they’ve come up with.
I just got a better computer so I can raid without my framerate taking a nosedive.
I just start having a good time on the game again, am getting ready to grind out pathfinder so I can fly, and now this crap. I’m not one to ragequit, but once I get sick enough of blizzard once again, I will do what I did before. Suspend my account, and find other things to do.
