Water Strider Discussion

There are still ground mounts, and there also a lot of other option for fast water moving. Water striders are not the only one option, it is probably the easiest but there are indeed other choices.

Because it is a very populated thread and blizzard is looking closely at this. I mean the burning of notre dame is something you are not impacted by, but you still want to know about that or not?
It is something called general knowledge about WoW what you can take out of this thread as well as IRL in case of my example.

also you are a DK how are you impacted by that?

I use a single mount 100% of the time, and it’s not the Water Strider which I don’t even have. At best, on my previous account with lots of mounts I might have used a different mount on 4 or 5 characters. (Of course, I only have like 3 options on this account anyway.)

Or they could just add immersive effects to mounts already existing.

Hippos, turtles, and basilisks continue to move at mount speed while swimming.

Squid have a speed boost button (with low cooldown) and grant water breathing.

All winged mounts glide by default when flying is disabled.

All hovering mounts water walk.

Etc, etc.

When people or things they have are attacked, they will defend themselves. The Water Strider may not be my favorite mount but its not ok for someone to chops its water walking feet off either.

(in)famously it has been the only way to make Blizzard respond. Flying was not kept in the game by sipping tea and having hope, people had to blow up larger than Blizzard could ignore.

Popularity is also an indicator of things. If people, en masse, show they dislike a system then the devs should revisit and fix it, the game is a product at the end of the day. The Azerite system revamp halfway through the expansion is proof of that.

While we’re at it, can Shamans cast Water Walking while mounted already…

I personally don’t see the issue, and I did the rep grind for that mount back in MoP like many other people. The water walking had to go with the new equipment system, otherwise people would still be using the Water Strider with anti-daze equipped. I’m looking forward to using my other mounts and not feel like I’m at a disadvantage.

Yes. More things need to go account-wide. It’s the player’s progress that matters. Which character you happened to be logged into doesn’t really matter. However, the player that grind-ed (ground sounds wrong) something out or worked really hard on progression to get something should be able to show off that achievement regardless of the character they are now on.

Let’s be real here… classes change every expansion… if a patch kills a class for you should you have to start completely over as a new character with nothing? Or should you be able to level and gear up an alt and still be able to jump into side activities like fishing / archaeology / mount collecting without missing a beat. Reputations and Professions need to go account-wide for this reason.

The price shouldn’t even be a topic. We put in the hours to grind the reputation required to get the mount advertised as having water walking ability and no one is offering to repay us for those hours. Just take back what we worked for and make us work even more hours to get it back on a temporary basis.

Unless I’ve misread the news on the subject, Blizzard is telling us we have to start paying for what we already put in the hours to get. Not to mention, we are now being told that we have to put in more hours to travel to a place that we have no other reason to visit so we can pay that additional price for what we already worked to get.

I understand that the abilities can be left in place or swapped at any particular time for one of the other ones so, if water walking is chosen and not replaced with something else, it stays the same. My questioning is why are you always fixing things that aren’t broken while ignoring the broken things that should have been fixed years ago? (I won’t go into details here since the details listed on my bug reports, suggestions, tickets, etc., were obviously not taken seriously there is no reason to waste time relisting them here)

These are the kind of decisions, putting company assets towards finding more things to take away from the players and listing them as improvements to player choices, that put my live account in limbo indefinitely. I played for more than 10 years without a lapse on my subscription until these kinds of things started being pushed on the player base. It looks like it won’t be resuscitated any time soon.

If Blizzard decides to get into car sales I hope I never have to buy an SUV from them. Having to pay them additionally (or put in a few hours sweeping their shop) before I can use the four-wheel-drive feature on my four-wheel-drive would break me (it makes just as much sense as what you’re proposing now).

If these things are like a consumable and last a limited time instead of a permanent unlock, I won’t be returning to game any time soon.

“account-wide nerf” which you directly quoted, so you’re clearly here trolling instead. You and I both know what I’m talking about so saying more is a waste of time.

Your real world burning of notre dame and your presumption that I am not impacted is the epitome of being a troll. Move along now please.

Honestly, I’m just tired of everything being a “system”, especially in this case, when I don’t know what the system is trying to fix.

Are you fixing the fact that some people don’t have a water walking mount? That’s… that’s intended. You have to do the content that awards the mount to get the mount.

Are you fixing the fact that you can’t water walk on every mount? Again, that’s intended. A select few mounts have extra perks for using them. If you want to be on your pretty mount, go for it; you can use it 90% of the time. If you want to walk on water, use the water walking mount.

The only time I saw anyone complaining about water walking mounts was when someone else had one and they didn’t, and they didn’t want to do the requirements set forth by the game to obtain one. I don’t think I ever saw someone say, “I want my mount to walk on water, but I really want to use a Tundra Mammoth.” So really, this boils down to people wanting something without working for it.

Are you really going to argue it’s a matter of choice, though? Because, look, sometimes I’d really like to play my rogue in a group that needs a tank or a healer, but I can’t, because rogues can’t do that, and you couldn’t make rogues do that without shoehorning in some idiotic mechanic to enable it. I mean, sure, rogues could heal by throwing daggers at party members tipped with healing potions or some cockamamie explanation like that, much like mammoths can walk on water once they put on special shoes, but they’re both pretty asinine explanations.

I can buy the idea that a water strider can walk on water. We have that in real life. It’s grounded in reality, and it makes sense within the game world. Granted, you’re playing fast and loose with the physics of it by having a player sit on top of it and the thing still being able to walk on water, but the essence of it makes sense. But other mounts, not so much.

Tell you what. Show me a video of a cat standing in the bathtub with individual floaty shoes on its feet, and I’ll buy into the concept of mount equipment. Until then, this is just an over-engineered “system” designed to make the have-nots feel better rather than doing a much more sane solution like putting an easier-to-get water walking mount in the game.

Post of the day here

Absolutely not. Characters matter. If you want everything to be account-wide, why not just let your character change classes at the drop of a hat?

One last comment from me before I go do something else with my time:
Since it was clarified that only characters with Anglers rep will get a free set of water walking shoes this will discourage me from working on alts. I have two characters with Anglers rep and both of them will not benefit from this at all once I’ve unlocked flying in BfA. I still haven’t unlocked Draenor flying and I’m less inclined to do so now with the expectation that something else I enjoy now will get unreasonably nerfed… I’m sticking around till the end of BfA for the story… Once that’s over I don’t know if there’s enough left of what I found fun in Legion to keep me in this game much beyond that.

It’s a SCAM! We need to organize! How bout an in game RP protest… cross realm/ cross faction peaceful march across Nazmir on our striders.

We worked for our striders because they had water walking, end of story. Removing water walking from them just so we can pay to put it back on, I don’t care how cheap the price, is a load of crap. All current mounts should keep their abilities but not be able to benefit from mount equipment. It’s honestly the only fair option.

Does that mean some players will just continue to use their striders to cross water and use a different mount equipment for everything else? Yeah, some will. But, that’s why we worked to get the strider in the first place! If anyone else wants that option they’re welcome to go get their own strider.

As it stands now, this whole mount equipment system is entirely just an excuse to nerf the water strider. That’s 100% the entire point of this. It’s not to give us nifty new mount abilities, it’s just so you can nerf the water strider and claim your not. Everyone (but DKs and maybe shaman) will just use water walking equipment to replace their strider. We all know you guys will never add any more equipment than what’s what’s already shown, and I wouldn’t be surprised if by next expansion mount equipment gets removed and the strider doesn’t get water walking back.

You guys don’t like seeing us all riding our strider? Too bad. You put it in the game. We worked to get it. It’s done. Nerfing it now is a complete garbage move on your part.

I knew it ,thanks for proving this to everyone. Why ,they get the double benefit?

I already paid 5000 (minus required rep discount) for the stupid mount. 5 or 10 gold each would be another 245 to 490 gold (for all for something I already ground rep and paid for). I was half way with Angler’s rep when MoP timewalking came out. So I ground timewalking dungeons to get exalted with Anglers. If you thinking 20-30 timewalking dungeons isn’t time consuming. I have some Ocean front property in Outland. I will sell you really cheap.

The gnome engineers of WoW are the ones coming up with water walking equipment that can be socketed to a mount… any mount. This would make us players use any of our mounts equip with water walking… instead of having stucked with water strider (an insect) mount. That’s the fantasy concept… gnome or goblin engineers of Mechagon (patch 8.2) created the mount equipment.
