Completely off topic but I would like to throw in:
I have never felt forced to use my Water Striders 100% of the time. I use it to cross water, which helps with my immersion, then get back on my favourite mounts. If I can’t be bothered to remount or stuff is chasing me I don’t want to kill I just… swim. Hasn’t killed my soul so far, not going to start now.
Once my void elf gets to 110 I am going to feel forced to wear that ugly bikini top to use my void wings transmog. How bout letting me use my huge collection of transmog tops or is that already in the works for when they let people mog almost naked but with pants?
Below are the suggestions I have seen that I would be open to. I will still protest because I don’t agree with what blizzard is doing on a fundamental level (taking from players, mid expansions, why because I said so, mommy knows best) but I will accept:
- If I don’t use mount equipment at all, my striders will stay as-is
- a BoP copy of the water walk is mailed to all my characters, forever, when they hit level 20 for accounts who have earned either water strider. You can make it legacy if you need to (pre patch 8.2) so people don’t feel obligated to do old content since that makes blizzard cranky (despite the fact we should be keeping the entire WORLD of warcraft alive)
- Make the equipment slot work in each mount and make that account wide. I can choose my favourite for each function. Tons of options here
- Make the water walk equipment free to buy and I will go buy it from the vendor and mail it myself. An extra step which is dumb but I will accept this
- Water strider stays as-is with no extra gear slot and the waterwalk gear is an upgraded version that does not break on damage
- Have the water strider slowly lose speed if it strays from water if you feel so personally attacked that people either like using it everywhere or can’t help themselves. This sucks for people who plain love the waterbug, sorry.
- If this is a veiled attempt to correct player behaviour in mythics then disable water walking in mythic dungeons and stop ruining world based content. Example: WoD had Treesassin’s Guise to drop combat on the world map. Rankha’s Escape plan could have been the same all you had to do was turn it off for instances. It is now nerfed so terribly it can’t even perform that basic function.
If this is an attempt to control players who can’t control themselves and cry that the waterbug is mandatory, just stop. Something will always be better than something else. A class, a spec, a racial, a talent, a hunter pet. You can’t change that unless you make everything the same or so dull that it no longer matters. You’re wrong if you are not a Zandalari right now. You are wrong if you use any pet other than a dispell+lust. Those are examples I don’t know what people cry about right now
PS keep your grubby fingers off my Shadowmeld.
Aside: Personally I use the Golems on my herbalist. Although it loosely makes sense it also does not. A shredder is never going to pick a Starlight Rose without crumbling to dust but whatever… I have a love/hate relationship with my Golems. They are big an noisy. I would rather see an Interact While Mounted gear added but you know what? I’ve never complained about my Golems because if I don’t feel like using it I …don’t use it. Sometimes I just like to run around in Ghost Wolf form and pick herbs because the animation of pawing the ground is super cute. Sometimes I use a regular mount like the good old days when the only thing people complained about was druids stealing all their stuff.
This was never an issue for me until you decided to take my strider from me and make me pay for it.

The point is one mount dominates the others, so a change is being made to adjust. Happens with everything else in the game

Good deal. Just wanted to ensure you didn’t have any false expectations when you log in that day!

Sure thing. Tilt at windmills then. It’s fun!
You’re the one complaining.
If only about half the playerbase even has the strider mount it’s a fallacy that it’s ‘dominating’ anything.
And even if what you think is true it shouldn’t be an issue because it’s should still come down to player choice.
Other people who dont’ like what I ride have no stance to change my options!

And I found another whiner- who’s argument is you had to grind some rep to get something. Guess what- in an MMORPG, everything is a grind.

No problem, I appreciate you pointing it out, let me know I needed to fix up that post!

Let’s see how long until this gets removed. Apparently someone’s watching the thread, one of my posts from the last hour or so (dunno which) has been removed for ‘community standards’, and the worst I’ve said was 'butt’hats.

No, in true MMORPGs what you gain you often you keep.

I’m not complaining- I’m fine with the changes. And are you kidding? come down to the player base? Have you seen some of these ‘suggestions’ on how to make the game better? We are not game developers. If you don’t like the game, and feel that Blizzard is taking all your hard earned rep away (lol) then feel free to unsub.
I quoted you complaining!
‘we are tired of seeing the majority of players on the same damn mount.’
I’m not here bellyaching that other players should have their privileges taken away.

Why should our alts be charged for something ACCOUNT BOUND that we have already grinded to unlock and pay for?
Where in the actual fog does it sound like a good idea to charge for something you have ALLOWED us to do for free? I have the strider, so all my alts have use of it, FOR FREE. Now you tell us only one character can use the equipment at no cost, but all the others have to buy it (repeatedly)?
YES! I do feel that if I grind for something account-bound on one character, all my alts should have access to it without additional cost.
Can someone please explain how the strider is making such a demonstrative impact on the game? “Everyone uses it” - Really? Not the perspective I’ve seen.
I’m sure some of employees of Blizzard think somehow that changes they’ve made recently were needed; but they must also realize that the number of “small” changes made (recently) are beginning to have a much bigger impact on the playerbase. How much more of this horsehockey do they expect us to put up with?

Sure, with the exception of tuning and new content…How long has it been that water strider has been the dominant mount for open world content/leveling- 7 years? Give me a break- its time for something new. Which is another thing everyone always complains about… ‘there is never new conent!’. And finally, when new things are released everyone is so skeptical and doesn’t even want to entertain it.
Players: Account bound is free Blizz.
Blizz employee: LOL how much you want to pay for it then?
Players: ???
Blizz employee: It can’t be free anymore because we don’t like account bound items.
Players:??? That is the point of account bound items…free.

How has it been a dominant mount?
I only saw an uptick of the water strider usage when they started to gate flying for dumb reasons. This is a Blizz created problem. Players have simply adjusted to the pruning and gating of everything Blizz has done post MoP.

Removing something and re-packaging it with a price tag is not new content.

When flying was available as soon as you hit level cap in MoP I didn’t see many water striders around. It was still a cool mount for people to pursue though and awesome for alts too.
I suppose there are some who might think it’s dominant when many of us are using striders to go to quests across water. When it’s the ONLY waterwalking mount in the game it’s no surprise that a person might see a bunch being used in one place at a time.
It’s silly to make more of it than that, though.

That is one mount, with one piece of equipment (water walking). As a trade off, you now have 2 other pieces of equipment (new content), which you can use now with 700+ more mounts …
The positives here far outweight your precious water strider losing its innate ability to water walk. But QQ’ing WoW players will always just look at the negatives and endlessly complain.
