Maybe when they take something away from you that you care about, you’ll complain.
You also don’t have the rep or the Water Strider, so of course this is a direct upgrade for you.

the water strider doesn’t dominate ~my~ game play. It having the ability to water walk doesn’t make it my go to mount and if people are making the water strider the mount they use most because of that then they are just being lazy.
they could have easily solved “Water Strider Dominance” by simply making more water walking mounts and/or giving some existing mounts water walking (or hovering) as appropriate which would broaden our choices and improve immersion/fantasy.
This was never about “Water Strider Dominance” to begin with… at least not from a player perspective. The real issue of “Water Strider Dominance” has to do with developing around the existence of water walking mounts at all. They considered nerfing the Water Strider to only work in pre-Legion zones and abandoned it due to backlash. If you don’t think they’re putting this system in to quietly nerf water walking in every future expansion, to time gate it like they do with flying, then you’re fooling yourself.
How long will you wait for next expansions mount equipment to be available so you can re-buy what you had before if that’s even an option.
Except apparently it’s one piece of equipment for ALL mounts on one character.
Apply the inflatable water-walking shoes to one mount on your druid and every mount your druid summons will have water-walking. You have no option to have a slow-fall or daze-free mount on your druid.
Apply daze-free shoes on any mount on your alt, and your alt has no access to water-walking. Etc.
Yes, because Im a Druid…
Nice job on your heavy research
While you are at it remove Anti-Daze from the heirloom mount even though the expletive thing costs close to 100,000 to 200,000 gold from purchasing 35 heirlooms.
This is a pointless change in a long line of pointless changes. We’re about to go to a water-based land… why not add another fishing faction, and just sell the boots through working up that faction’s rep? Then it wouldn’t feel like a slap in the face to the people who worked hard to get their blue (and especially the red) striders. There’s no need to remove the strider’s inherent ability at all.
You can’t say “oh, but we’re charging for it so that makes it okay” because you’re basically just sticking it on a Pandaria-era vendor that 95% of players will already have access to, so the most work they’ll have to do is trot down to Pandaria once and drop a bunch of gold on a Panda. How is that earning? Where is the challenge that makes something unique or at least valuable through achievement?
Your changes to the game aren’t really changes anymore. They’re just sidesteps that you think keep things feeling “fresh,” but in reality they’re patronizing to the player base that’s stuck with this game for years. Are you all out of ideas?
One watery step closer to cancelling my sub, I guess.
I don’t want it forever on (almost) all mounts. I want it when I want it.
And I don’t want to be forced to sacrifice yet more valuable bag space to lug around consumables & non-reuseable equipment to have the same freedom of choice that I already have now.
How about they make a new glider type, consumable and engineering-only tinker that uses current reagents and can be deployed without dismounting us?
And add more types of striders, maybe with zone restrictions if they’re “too powerful”.
…BORING.
WW yaks
WW mammoths
WW wolves
WW horses
WW pigs
WW etc etc etc
Talk about homogenized
ugh.
Exactly.
Its like we cant take 1 second to press the button to swap to another mount that serves some UNIQUE purpose.
Two strider mounts ground out for nothing. Pointless garbage now.
lol, all of your characters are Druids? Get out of here Troll
And that could have been added without removing something we already had. I get it, it isn’t a big deal to you, and that’s fine. But some of us don’t like it, and we are providing Blizzard with that feedback.
I’m not QQ’ing, or endlessly complaining. I think most of what 8.2 has looks really good. I’m excited to explore the new areas. I can’t wait to get into the mega-dungeon.
I can be excited and happy about some things in the patch while still pointing out things I don’t like too, such as this change to the Water Strider.
But if you just lump everyone who doesn’t share your views into a bucket of “QQ’ing WoW players will always just look at the negatives and endlessly complain.” then you are doing everyone a disservice, yourself included.
The fact is that people can sometimes have different opinions without anyone being right or wrong, insulting those that disagree with you does nothing to further the conversation.
Exactly.
Id not have been irritated at all about it but for the ‘removed’ part on the striders ability.
it was supposed to be UNIQUE.
Now the strider is just the same as every other stinking mount in the game.
Weeks of grinding for the strider on two accounts…urinated away…because now I can just run over water on the expedition yak instead.
Wasted time.
Nice job, you figured out how the mount equipment works. Yes, when you equip water walking, you can’t have anti-dazing. Do you have anti-dazing now? No. Do you have a slow fall mount? No. Guess what- this will be all NEW content for you! If you want to walk on water with your water strider- just equip the shoes and viola you have it now.
But wait, you are not satisfied with just the water walking, you want it to be an exclusive mount where you can have multiple abilities whereas all other mounts only get one ability. In essence, this will make the water strider the most powerful mount in the game utility wise (kind of how it is now, since its the only water walking mount). So why would I even entertain the idea of using a different mount other than water strider, if I can have not 1 but 2 abilities on it. Moving forward, everyone will just use a water strider mount and take advantage of its 2 abilities while all other mounts suffer and only get 1. This is why you are not a game developer.
I guess we finally know who the final boss of this expansion is now.
The too powerful water strider! Beware it’s fearsome /mountspecial … Scree! Scree!! Chitterchitter!
Omg … it’s … Walking on water… Interrupt! Interrupt!
You have died. Elapsed time: 15 seconds. You have defeated this boss 0 times in 634 attempts.
its that apathy thing again. “it doesnt affect me and my game so who cares”.
Well, thats the death of this game. Typical attitude in game, so it makes sense it’d be in here too.
If nothing else it’ll be entertaining watching the direction this sort of crap takes the game…while Im playing something else.
Virtual upvote.
I’d just like to point out a benefit of leaving the Water Strider as it is, making it hard-locked to have water walking and be unaffected by the equipment .
The Water Strider would still be unable to “double dip” in these special effects and would not continue to be “mandatory” but it could still provide a benefit to have - it lets you change what mount special you have by changing mounts quickly instead of changing equipment slots. You could have the daze equipment on your mounts, and then choose to mount your Water Strider when you want water walking and another mount of your choice when you want Daze. People who have collected the Water Strider get a real benefit of quickly changing what they are using. If players don’t want to farm the Water Strider or want some mount diversity, they can still put the water equipment in their mounts and ignore the Water Strider entirely and it nets even for everyone involved.
The only negative is not being able to have anti daze or parachute equipment on a Water Strider specifically, but does anyone really care about that?
oh…really?
so its SOOO powerful that we now make ALL mounts able to do the exact same thing
Did you think your post thru before posting it?
NO…it ISNT that powerful otherwise they’d NOT have allowed for the rest of my mounts to water walk.
Fact is some players didnt want to do the grind for the strider so they screamed in here to make more mounts that are easier to get have WWing.
The thing is it pales in comparison to GW2 and I dare even say BDOs mount system.
yeah. the strider is my main mount on ALL of my characters, even high level ones because I refuse to run pathfinder for flying, so in order to get over large bodies of water I used the strider instead in legion, WOD and BFA.
Not the end of the world, but its fairly ‘ugh’ to think about all those gross looking yaks all walking on water now.
homogenized crap now
