IMO I worked for the Water Strider because I didn’t want to swim around like a peon. Furthermore we now have water mounts that work in ANY open water (looking at you Vashj’ir mounts). I fail to see the point in removing water walking on my strider besides every mouth breathing neckbeard crying about grinding the strider mount out. Quick rant while we are at it… WTF does the Dreadwake not float? Its a BOAT!
Exactly - the more time you’ve spent across multiple characters, the more you have to pay to regain what you’ve already earned.
Is Path of Frost used too much? I mean, that’s kind of part of the fun of playing a Death Knight.
Is Druid travel form used too much? I’ll freely admit that I don’t even use mounts at all on my druids. I’m guessing mount equipment won’t affect Druid travel form at all, just like it doesn’t benefit from the 10% mount speed bonus from the guild perk.
It’s another half baked “fix” Blizzard seems to be shoehorning into the game without really considering what would be fun.
Did you ever do Utgarde Pinnacle with a death knight in the group? And after the last boss, go to take the ‘door to before’ quick exit to get back to the portal out and have the death knight turn on path of frost so everybody dies when they land on the water?
Now you get to have a permanent version of that whenever you jump off anything into water while mounted.
If it’s an ACCOUNT WIDE MOUNT. Then yes, “every other alt” should have access to it, the same as the character that earned in exactly the same way that anything else that BLIZZARD CHOSE to make account wide is accessible to every character.
You are being dense just for it’s own sake. The mods should be free for every character because they were and are free now being innate to the water strider.
What’s next, making people rebuy the mammoth, or yak or brutosaur on every alt because after all, only the one character that paid for it purchased it…
Use a little logic sometimes because you’re not fooling anyone with your fake, pretend to try to be earnest (and fail) “questions”?
You’re just trying to lay the groundwork for some feeble argument to do whatever it is you have already made up your minds to do because apparently you believe nothing you ever dowill ever eventually cost all of your jobs.
The person who thinks that is the lead developer, and his little tantrum is to become law.
The thread wasn’t highlighting that it was used too much - it was showing how there’s a LOT of other uses for various other mounts, which doesn’t support the argument that the striders are used too much.
You lose water walking on every character when you login…
Is it his idea or is he referring to the complaints from players?
Look down as you fall. Looking down breaks all forms of water walking.
Does the CM say they aren’t crafted and only available from the vendor?
My initial reply to Absentia was to him telling other people to quit spreading misinformation that nowhere has said they will be craftable items.
I asked him to stop his spreading of misinformation and provided him with a source that attended the summit for 8.2 and clearly states they are crafted.
Now that isn’t good enough.
If any Blizzard source has stated the only way to get the items is off the vendor, please provide that source.
And it’s none of your business what the rest of the playerbase uses as a mount.
Dont’ like it? Dont’ look.
From what I’ve seen here and other places, it’s him. He doesn’t like the bug, so this ‘let’s give people a choice by taking things they worked to acquire away’ is an end run rather than just removing it directly.
This was my thoughts on it.
In my (limited) experience only when you actually are water walking, as opposed to when you’re plummeting toward water you’re expecting to be a soft landing. I’ve been killed/wounded many times with my alchemist using water walking potions before the strider.
Soooooo will there be official patch notes for when 8.2 goes on PTR…
Or is the player base going to continue to have to guess the intent of this system from the dribbles of information that will be data mined…
Blizz could be more transparent about this new mount system but apparently not…
Maybe. It’s ludicrous that there are players complaining about ‘over use’ of a mount other people choose to use.
At first glance the new options seem great esp for those people who didn’t want to grind the rep for the water striders.
But now I am ticked off.
I know, I fudged a word in that post, should have been a “then” instead of a “that”(fixed now). I was referring to a suggested solution I had posted a few replies back that would be better (in my opinion anyway) than what Blizzard are proposing.
Apologies for the confusion, I did not intend to defend their approach.
Sorry, I’m not in the mood to teach you how to read for context from primary sources. You go right ahead and enjoy your empty headcanon, I guess.
I’m fairly certain from observing Ion’s responses in the dev Q&As that this is entirely his idea and he doesn’t listen to players except when subscription numbers start sinking like a water strider will without water shoes when the 8.2 PTR comes out.
