Agreed - someone already started a thread breaking down how that doesn’t make sense.
Context matters. It’s literally a discussion about the cost of water walking shoes for people that already have water walking mounts, which is what this thread is primarily about.
A ‘fair price’ of 1 copper, for the equipment to be BoA, and that when used it’s learned rather than replaced per character. These equipment items shouldn’t be treated like gems, they should be treated like toys unless each equipment is per mount. I don’t want every mount to have water walking all the time.
You’re taking a passive from a mount, forcing us to send it to all of our characters on an account as equipment, and then probably never using a different equipment to avoid the hassle of buying multiples, mailing multiples, and sending multiples to our characters. Why don’t you treat it instead like the store items/toys of old and when a new character is created they end up with the passive water walking in their mailbox? Or perhaps when they ding 20. Then you’re at least removing the hassle every time I make a character to go and buy it and send it to the character.
I use my water strider almost every time I play, on every toon, unless there’s a super rare instance of being in a land-locked zone so I invite you to peek at my account’s /played yourself to figure out how many times that is. The thing is, I don’t want all of my mounts to water walk either though. What’s the fun in cliff-jumping with a mount’s running start, aiming for the water, and then having to dismount or else die horribly?
And if you’re going to bring in the reputation discussion: open rep vendors once we have the exalted achievement for the rep! I shouldn’t have to re-level to access recipes, toys (some of which are still rep locked), and pets once I unlock them on a character. You’ve already unlocked tabards this way, so if I walk up to a vendor with the exalted achievement I should be able to buy what I want from said vendor.
Sorry to hear that. But yeah it feels like they are driving players away that have been loyal to this game.
Incorrect. The slot is per CHARACTER, not per MOUNT.
Problem with this is that you cannot choose to exclude it from your strider. You apply the equipment and if affects ALL mounts except the herbalism mounts. With your idea, not only would I lose equipment for other mounts, but I can 1000% guarantee you in the next expansion we will no longer have bardings/stirrups as well, so I will lose those benefits as well.
You don’t understand how they can do this?
So you would rather be forced to use ‘an ugly bug’ constantly, as opposed to having some variety… makes sense.
This feels like an odd question.
It was Blizzard who told us how our mounts were going to work.
Mounts used to belong to individual characters.
…then the game was changed so we could access reputation mounts on all of our characters.
it feels like a step backwards to start charging our alts rent to ride rep mounts, when everything is becoming progressively more account-wide.
if the problem is “too many striders”, then give us a bunch more water walking mounts to obtain
I like the idea of more water walking mounts instead of this whole “let’s make everything the same all the time” direction the game has been going in since WOD.
Might want to take some advice from the classic team on how to listen to feedback and give your customers a good experience instead of sitting on your high horse and thinking you guys know what the players want. You wonder why you’ve lost over 50% of the player base in one expansion, just look in the mirror and you’ll see.
Correct. This is the issue. If it was a per-mount and account wide change, I would have literally zero issues. I take the shoes they send me, put it on my boat (because I don’t want to use the strider itself), then put it on a bunch of other mounts that I think make sense to walk on water. I would be willing to spend thousands of gold on equipment to make multiple mounts water walking.
But nope, per character.
Absentia did provide the source. It’s right there in the message. “Literally from CM in this thread.” From someone who works for Blizzard, as opposed to ‘not-Blizzard website’.
What difference does it make if there are people who think there are too many striders being used?
I don’t see this at all but even if I did, it’s a players option, not my business.
Blizzard has just lost sight that the reason the game became popular in the first place was their ability to introduce a sense of accomplishment when you worked towards something and that sense of accomplishment grew as a stepping stone through goals in the game. Now you accomplish something and then you push the reset button. This is a prime example of working towards a goal that was expected to be a long lasting and continuous accomplishment all just to have the reset button pushed again.
Gold is not what its about. Nobody mentioned the price of the equipment when the news hit last week. Even if Blizzard gave all of your characters the damn shoes for FREE, everyone here would still be QQ’ing because thats what WoW players do best. Having other mounts walk on water will be a breeze of fresh air into the game- because as a lot of people stated, we are tired of seeing the majority of players on the same damn mount. Believe it or not, eventually, items and content in the game become nerfed/obsolete with time and new content- mount equipment will benefit majority of players and Blizzard shouldn’t cater to the fisherman of WoW, because of one specific mount.
They don’t respect player time or effort.
And players start to ask questions:
Why do I play this game now?
Does anything I accomplish matter?
What will they prune next?
Should I stick around?
Why should I log in?
Maybe I should take my money and time go elsweyr…
I agree it’s not perfect, but I think it’s a better approach than they are using (a compromise if you will).
At least this way, if you choose to just not partake in the “Mount Equipment” system, you don’t lose anything when you log into 8.2, with their system, you loose water walking on all but one character as soon as you login.
Very much so. This is obviously not my main, but every time I change it to the main it gets changed back to this (outdated, the character is 110 now) blingnei hunter. I want to keep playing… but with the limited time I have to play it gets annoying to have to put up with the crap they’re dumping on us.
They have already stated that the Sky Golem is ineligible for the new mount equipment, so why not the water strider as well? No complicated itemization logic necessary.
Personally I don’t use my strider all of the time because it is fugly, but on every character that is lvl 20+ except my DKs it is ALWAYS on the hot bar for use when I enter water heavy zones. Adding the mount equipment slots and taking away WW from striders means that I will still have to pay for items on all my alts if I want to be able to continue to water walk. Anything more than free is unacceptable, and even free would still be a pain because it means going to the vendor in the rear-end of nowhere pandaria to stock up.
It isn’t though. When do you use ww to be honest? When by the coast so you can run just off the coast and avoid being dazed … or if the zone has a lot of water (nazmir, azsuna). I barely used it in WoD or even MoP for that matter. So its “usefulness” is largely dependent on how you guys design zones.
Then stop taking things away from us. You guys need to honestly stop removing stuff we already have from the game then offering it back up to us as a “feature”/“reward” (flying, character power - i.e. mob scaling w/ levels, gear seasons, abilities, etc.).
Why are you surprised when people get angry at you for it? We worked for a water strider. It should keep it’s ability. We worked for a turtle/skate for faster swim speed when needed. Worked for a tundra mount or yak for repairs/mogs. Spent 5 mil for a mobile AH. Your “mount equipment idea” can/will undercut all of those and whatever effort it took to acquire them.
Why not leave mount equipment slot for cosmetic alterations? Then add more innate abilities to even more mounts to make them more compelling.
500k for 4 different color frogs is pretty uninspired. 500k and/or a long quest chain for a frog mount that has double jump built-in would be much more interesting.
I am genuinely curious where this idea even came from. This is one of those things that 0 players in the community were asking for or complaining about.
How about addressing some of the real problems in the game and saving something like this for the next xpac.
