Water Strider Discussion

You’re the one spreading misinformation. The wowhead article and the streams have all stated that all 3 equipment items will be crafted. Then, for those with the reputation the vendor will offer discounted water walking ones.

But let’s verify that data in today’s PTR

Personally, I have maxed Angler rep on at least 6 alts on a single server. I haven’t even looked at other servers. I worked that rep on said alts as a single person during the MoP expansion. Even though the Water Strider was account-bound, there was still the Raft which had to be bought individually. That raft was later made into a toy which every alt can now access as a TOY and needs nothing other than MoP fishing level 1 to access it. This to me rather negates the argument that Water Striders are too powerful and should not be shared amongst alts. And the argument that one can just add the water horseshoes actually means that you then cannot take advantage of the new system and use other abilities for your mounts because you would have to leave the shoes on forever in order to not lose the ability on a single mount and not have to spend gold to get it back again.

I for one have left this game multiple times over the past few years. I have a nostalgic place in my heart for the game. I am here now mostly because I joined a guild where I raid and I have grown fond of those people. They are the only ones truly holding me here at this point. I want to love WoW. But I don’t. Every time stuff like this happens, it makes me want to just stay with Final Fantasy XIV (which I also have an active subscription to) where I can play all crafts, all gatherers, and all jobs (classes) on a single character and not feel as if the work I put in as a REAL PERSON is constantly being relegated to whether or not I put in more time on an alt.

In the history of time with everything I’ve ever ground my time and effort to attain in this game, there are two things which top that list: the Water Strider and Ashes of Al’ar. And Ashes of Al’ar is the ONLY cosmetic mount I ever cared for in this game .

While I may not speak for others, the main point to taking my real life time to grind for something is based on UTILITY. I don’t buy all the mounts in the game just for the aesthetics the majority of the time. Function and utility top my list as reasons to take real life time and sink it into the extra effort to attain items.

Plus the Auction House (another system I prefer in other games) sucks now and I refuse to use it to sell items. Taking my gold because someone else undercuts me and the item doesn’t sell is a horrible feeling. This is the only expansion since I started playing in WotLK where I have less gold now across all of my alts than when I started the expansion. And I did finally buy the Yak mount even though I hate spending gold for UTILITY reasons and the fact that all alts can utilise it.

So the short of it is I think a good price for my alts is FREE because I am still a single person sinking real life time into attaining said items. And when I put the time and effort into attaining it, there was a reason for it. If anything, I think MORE items should be shared across alts like in other games like FFXIV, GW2, etc. and not have the ones ones that are currently shared taken away.

As an addendum for those who would like to jump on me and tell me to go play other games, I only bothered to give my 2 cents because it was asked. But even if it weren’t asked of me, I still have a right to my opinion as you do yours. And this is one topic which seems to have hit a sore spot for many players of WoW.

I’m out of upvotes for the day, so this is a virtual one / remonder for me.

Are you just not reading the part where you only get ONE of them, and many people have more than one character?

A blue post confirmed that the mount equipment system opens at level 20 for characters who already have a level 100 or higher toon so you can all waterwalk when you quest.

Why is this thread still in existence?

So buy the heavily discounted ones from the vendor and send them to your alts.

They are the usual suspects and that doesn’t surprise me anymore.

Please post a quote or link saying that the water walking shoes are crafted.

I can’t believe you think the community actually “won” anything with the portal fiasco. The CoT portal is a poor poor concession. They already put their foot down about the Panda portals and the Broken Shore portal. Not a peep about giving the alliance a way to Northern Eastern Kingdoms for holiday events.

-Twilight Highlands is far away and locked to cata level toons

What about some of my horde not being able to use the npc to port to the Dark Portal? All my alliance can, even the ones who have no business with khadgar because they did the chain but it seems my horde don’t have that luxury.

Do you think they even considered giving anything back without the outcry? It took over 10k posts just to get the CoT portal brought back, eventually. How hard is it to stick it on an NPC in a hotfix that takes 5 minutes not even? Clearly not a priority.

Check the post above yours. You aren’t fully understanding the issue.

here’s the thing: I don’t want all my mounts to water walk all the time. I want one mount to water walk all the time.

The others? The others don’t need to water walk at all. I can only speak from personal experience but if I’m not near water, I’m not on my strider. If I’m jumping off a cliff toward water, I don’t want to have to stop and think “did I unequip water walking”?

Also, how will this equipment actually work? I don’t want to spend bag slots on carrying various equipment on various alts just to swap them. If anything, I’d want this system to be per mount so that way I could equip different things on my different favorite mounts (which change per character.)

Maybe my paladin has a water walking horse, a slow fall kodo, and a whatever else turtle. I don’t want to be limited to one passive that has to be turned on and off. You’re adding just enough complication to the mount system to make it worse rather than better. If you’re going to add complication, go full tilt and give us full customization like the old April Fools’ ‘pimp my mount’ thing, because that’s all this is. Then you satisfy everybody.
Those that don’t want the water strider losing their passive don’t lose their passive, they just equip it back on. Those that want to water walk with something else, well, they put that free equipment on something else, but then I’m not having to dismount every time I want to go diving.
Please.

Think of all the dead toons crashing into the surface of the water.

Something else to consider is my toons on other servers. How exactly are they going to use their strider ability if they themselves have no ability to buy this grand new equipment? This is a lot more massive of a nerf than you’re selling right now unless all equipment is BoA… and even then, why the crap should I have to re-buy an ability, ship it off to 54 other characters, and then have literal spares lying around? Unless this is a per mount thing I’m going to equip one equipment only after this and that’s water walking. It’ll be too much of a hassle to do anything else.

Pretty sure 2100+ messages in this thread alone says you’re full of Blizzard’s favorite quest item.

So much this! As soon as I can lure my wife away to another MMO we will be un-subbing our accounts. I am tired of Ion,the development team and the Community Managers telling me they know better how I should enjoy the game.

2100 (with most people replies from the same people) is nothing in the bucket of subscribers of this game.

It’s in the wowhead article.

The ones revealed so far can cause most of your mounts of level 20+ characters to be unable to be dazed, have waterwalking, have a parachute when flying from high places.

  • Saddlechute : Equip in your mount equipment slot to install a emergency parachute that will deploy when dismounted high in the air.

  • Inflatable Mount Shoes : Equip in your mount equipment slot to allow you to walk across water while mounted. Any damage will cancel the effect.

  • Comfortable Rider’s Barding : Equip in your mount equipment slot to prevent you from being dazed while mounted.

These items will be made by professions (e.g. Dazed from Blacksmithing) and can be replaced at any time. However, the item is destroyed when replaced.

There’s always one. Congratulations.

(squints at ‘the ONLY reason I did it…’) Is that a trick question? That would be an exact rephrasing of what I said, yes. And now all my characters have it available whenever I need it, without having to spend half an hour traveling to pay for an ability I already have.

But the equipment is used on the same mount page and spreads across characters… If I use the equipment on my Underrot Crawg on my Priest, then log into my rogue, my Underrot Crawg is going to have the same equipment.

That is the indication that the post made, anyway.
It’s early, I’ll find it for quoting and come back.

And if you have to slowly swim through water constantly you get to see the world for longer. And if you get dazed and dismounted, you get to slowly walk and you see the world for longer. Not a convincing argument that they won’t gate it.

I don’t think that is summarized correctly. The other two are already made by professions. The third one (water walking) originates from the Water Strider, and will be sold by the vendor who sells it.

I mean honestly, at this point, there is sooooo much misinformation about this and people don’t understand that they are consumed on use, not reusable, and each character they log on to needs one of these, or a stack of these, or a stack of EACH, that need they a dedicated post outlining every little thing.

I do not believe the shoes are crafted though.

The inflatable shoes will break on damage? They just became 100x more useless.

I’ve never used any of the craftable shoes because the benefits haven’t been really worth it. No-daze or a minor speed increase isn’t a big enough deal for me to bother crafting them, much less remembering to use them when the effect fades.

As it is, I’ve got four alts to 120, and I’m not really bothering with BfA content until we get flight (and gating flight behind a late rep grind absolutely sucks, but that’s Blizzard’s trend these past few expansions, so no surprise there). I’m sick to death with having to run through trash.

Add on an 800-gold-per-trash cost for using inflatable shoes, and I’ll never bother using them at all. I’m not throwing away 800 gold because I looked away from the monitor at the wrong moment and facepulled an angry crane or fell off a mid-height cliff.
