Water Strider Discussion

All these comments about a mount from 7 years ago? Why is no one upset that I can use TW badges to essentially get this mount in less than a day?

Why is no one upset about that especially when there are comments about having to grind for it and earn the mount. Lol what grind? A days worth of TW is a grind?

You realize the next Pandaria TW is in September right?

You could grind out the Anglers rep several times before then.

Yes but how come no one was upset when it does come up you can bypass weeks of grind in just one day? Why isnā€™t that an issue?

Ask Blizzard. I didnā€™t know that to be honest and Iā€™m currently grinding it out a second time.

Iā€™m not following your examples can you elaborate.

Unlikely. We never have before. The only thing we ever got was the Charm of Swift Flight, and then THAT got taken away. Itā€™s only the last couple of expansions that we got to use costumes reliablyā€¦

Point is the water strider is unique and does a unique thing. There should be unique things in the game. People donā€™t have to use it. Someone choosing to spend their time in mythic raids getting the best gear in the game is unique, good for them. people who spent their time grinding out the Anglers rep (especially at level), good for them.

I donā€™t understand the need to make literally everything exactly the same. They are doing this to classes, rotations, and a lot of other things.

Well to be fair I made my first post on this thread not to far above our conversation where I basically was saying that same thing.

I donā€™t think they should be taking away the abilities. I think they should be giving the different species/categories/types whatever you want to say of mounts unique abilities.

Why have a requirement for Anglers, when you can own a strider without Anglers rep?

I earned my water strider on one character. I never went near Anglers again because faction grinds ARE NOT FUN.

The instant mounts went account-wide, I put that hideous water strider as my keybound default mount for lowbies and for use in areas where we canā€™t fly.

I donā€™t use a different mount, then swap out when I come to water, because thatā€™s inefficient.

I even use the hideous water strider on lowbie druids/druids in BfA because itā€™s faster to ride across the water than go into Mutant Sea Lion Form (yeah, glyphs, whatever) and swim across. Besides, in BfA at least, I get kicked out of Mutant Sea Lion Form whenever I cross a phased area, sometimes every few yards (southwest of Boralus by the Azerite coast is AWFUL for this) where I get zero disruption on the waterbug.

The only character who gets a pass is my DK with Path of Frost. I donā€™t bother with my shamanā€™s Water Walking only because last I checked (and I could be wrong here) you have to dismount to cast water walking.

You want to give us inflatable shoes for other mounts? Thatā€™s fantastic! Iā€™m a little disappointed theyā€™re not account-wide, but okay. Itā€™s a little gold sink. And it lets us customize with other mount equipment.

But to take away the waterbugā€™s inherent water walking and not the Sky Golemā€™s herb-picking? Thatā€™s ridiculous. I mean, if nothing else, itā€™s right there in the name. Water STRIDER. Not water dog-paddler-unless-it-has-inflatable-shoes.

Plus the idea of grinding from 20-60 (or 1-60) without water walking? Leveling alts is even less appealing now. As it is, the super-slow mounted speed is just painful for the old world.

Between azerite, the portal room, and now this, Iā€™m pretty sure BfA stands for ā€œBad for Azeroth.ā€

Outstanding post. You definitely summed everything up perfectly.

EXTREMELY HORRIBLE PREMISE!!!

Donā€™t talk to us about characters as if they are separate. Should they ā€œhave every single that the other characters have?ā€ as if itā€™s a form of socialism where one character is being rewarded for the work of another character.

HOW DIFFICULT IS TO UNDERSTAND MULTIPLE CHARACTERS = ONE PLAYER?

The alts, frankly, should have everything the other character has because itā€™s STILL the same player. Itā€™s redicuolous to act like a character doing a rep done by another character is doing something new- the player is doing exactly what was already done, over and over again.

You are effectively saying you care more about a character among of group of characters than the actual PERSON who is playing all of those characters.

Yes, I do believe in rewarding the players as opposed to the character.

IRRELEVANT!

You placed it into the game, and I shouldnā€™t have to monitor itā€™s use, in fear that you I am using it too much, which will then cause it to be removed.

The only reason itā€™s overused is because itā€™s the ONLY water walking mount.

You say you want people to have choices, but you have given no choice while showing mock shock that the one mount with water walking is used a lot, and is as frequent as the sky golem, despite the fact itā€™s the ONLY choice.

Leave the mount alone, make it exempt from equipment, let water walking be available for other mounts, and watch as it becomes much more rare.

Free, because I already have it and youā€™re taking it away. Things that are account wide should be account wide. Or are you about to take all the mounts away from alts too? Nobody is going to pay 25$ a character for the shop mounts.

I use the water strider when I need to cross water. Stop putting water in, if you donā€™t want people using it. Or leave it alone. Or even better, if the one goober doesnā€™t like the thing, make more mounts inherently water walking. Like the obvious choice, the BOAT.

If youā€™d just leave the strider alone, this would all go away.

Yeah I thought it would be odd to have it called Water Strider and not be able to well, stride on the water without help.

Iā€™m exactly the same when it came to pulling all other mounts off my bars and just using the bug because I canā€™t be assed using something else, then dismounting just to cross water, dismount again and get on a better looking mount. No way.

Making the equipment account bound would probably be the better option in the sense of whatever you do to a mount on your main, it reflects on that same mount if you summon it on an alt. In a world where account bound stuff including mounts is a thing, it just makes the most sense.

I think you read this wrong pretty sure he said as long as your main is above 100 you can use equipment on alts that are at least level 20.

Because water walking is basically in itā€™s name, I do feel that the strider mounts should be grandfathered in and exempt from the equipment at the cost of it not being allowed to use equipment.

Who said there was a wrong choice? Nobody did, but it appears that the devs at BIizzard think so, so now youā€™re punishing the intelligent playerbase for using this mount appropriately. Instead of implementing some other water walking mounts into this abysmal excuse of an expansion, you decided to TAKE AWAY water walking from a unique mount that many players have worked for.

With so many problems with BFA, THIS is what you guys have been working on. Figuring out how to take things away from the playerbase and hand them back as some sort of cool new feature. Iā€™m sorry, but Iā€™m not buying it, and Iā€™m sure many other players feel the same way.

Shame on you and your company.

Ah, probably. Last I heard, the mount equipment wasnā€™t usable for anyone under 100. Thatā€™s something!

Thoughā€¦ if you have to buy the shoes on each character individually, arenā€™t they gated behind the ability to get to Pandaria? Or do I need a LOT more coffee? (Probably the latter.)

You buy the equipment from the vendor on your main and mail it alts as itā€™s bind on account.

I think this is a good point actually. Since the water walking mount is tied to a rep gain, then clearly only that one character that did the rep grind should get to use the mount. Allowing all characters was a bonusā€¦ but yetā€¦ not a single Thank You to Blizz for it. Just more entitlement and hostility as usual.

This mount is a special case because of its overpowered utility, for the time it has been out you have benefited from it.

Things change, new problems come out, but iā€™m sure they will handle this in a way where everyone is happy. I think people need to learn to adapt to change. To simply complain and cry about changes instead of adapting really just makes you weaker in the end.

If workers at a company whined and cried because of changes to the factory instead of adapting i feel they should be weeded out to be replaced with people of a stronger caliper that can adapt.

You are not actually losing anything, you can keep your strider with itā€™s abilty. But now people want the ability to walk on water AND be not dazed AND have other utilitys and they do not want to pay for it. Thatā€™s not right at all.

I think the worst two mounts in game is the strider and the transmog mount. My opinion. Strider just screams to me ā€œCREEPā€.

Mounts are not only account-wide, but battle net-wide. No clue what you are talking about. Only the character with rep can buy things from the Anglers but pets and mounts and toys are different, as you should very well know.
