Pretty sure there is more people happy about being able to WW on something that’s not a strider than there is complaining about having to use a piece of equipment.

From the massive amount of threads being created on this one topic, I would disagree. The people who are happy are likely people who don’t even have the rep for the anglers. They will be happy until they figure out how much it’ll cost to buy those things at a non-discounted price.

Stuck using only one mount? You realize you can just switch to the water strider when needed and use any other mount during any other time right?

I doubt they will be expensive. It’s also always the vocal minority that come to forums to complain normally. Why would someone who see’s the change and thinks “Wow that’s cool, now I can use different mounts instead of just having the strider” or maybe “Now I don’t have to rep grind just to get water walking, I can just buy some equipment instead”.

I saw the change and just thought awesome now I don’t have to use the strider anymore. Why would I make a post about that? You can’t use forum threads as a metric when the other side of the coin wouldn’t make them in the first place.

Someone people only care about utility and not vanity. So when they don’t have the choice of both, they settle for utility.

Juggslol ask yourself this question. Come next expansion, and now that the strider no longer has WW inherited, will Blizzard lock it behind arbitrary grinds like flying?

I commend you for stepping into this thread on the Monday evening preceding the drop of 8.2 on the PTR. However, this price you speak of not knowing offhand is what will be a determining factor in many players decisions. Personally, I’ve stuck by/accepted/dealt with the changes made over the years to keep the gameplay from just becoming a static habit. But having spent my money and time acquiring the rep required to gain the reward, only to have it removed and then require it to be re-purchased…no. That’s the line. I’m sorry to sound like I’m giving an ultimatum because it’s not. It’s a decision made based on honor, or the lack thereof.

EDIT - and to be perfectly fair, yes, I agree and have so for many years that Blizzard has the right to change content at their discretion at any time. But this is one of those times I won’t be agreeing with it.

Just something I’d like to get your perspective on, if the character who earned the Anglers reputation along with the mount gets the water walking item for free, what would a fair price be for the alts to get it? If that character who earned the reputation and mount has the option to water walk (but might choose something else), do you feel that alts should have every single thing that the other characters have?

Also, just out of curiosity, how often would you estimate that you have you used the water strider mount in the 6+ years it’s been available?

You can’t be serious here. The mount is a one time purchase usable on all alts. I bought it, I want to use it, it doesn’t cost me a thing either on the person who earned the rep OR the alts who use it. There is no additional cost. I would assume that you wouldn’t go back and charge me something that I took the time to EARN already. You know, the way you want us to earn things with gameplay like rep grinds for flying.

Yes, I know, that’s at odds with saying hey you should make Draenor flying purchasable now. But it’s two bloody expansions ago, and doesn’t really belong in this thread, but there ya go. (Stop rep gating flying would be nice.)

I’ve used the water strider at least once per day in this expansion. I’m sure I’m not alone in this.

Well, think of it like this: People who gloss over the headline and think WOW this is awesome! probably don’t understand that this will lead to a few different paths. One is having a stack of each of these in your bags on every character since they are consumed when you use them. Another is paying 100,1000,5000,50000 gold each per item from the Anglers ONLY on the player that has the rep each time you want to switch back to water walking. For me, since i no longer have access to the character with the rep, I need to grind out the rep again. I still have access to the mount, however.

My situation is besides the point, however. We had something that worked, they are going to break it and charge us gold to get it back. Unacceptable.

Yep, and this gives them another switch to flip and control how we play the game. They could easily disable it in certain zones, whereas now they cannot.

2.) The reason it’s being taken away from Water Strider is to make a system (mounts) about which mount you enjoy the most using, as opposed to the “Best” or “Correct” mount. If the water strider retained the Waterwalking effect AND gained an equipment slot, we haven’t solved any problems. We’ve just made the “correct” mount choice better.

…by taking away something that people worked hard to get. Nobody uses the water strider mount constantly. Most people use whatever mount they want to until they hit water, change to the strider, then stay on that until they’re forced to dismount, to herb or mine, or dazed, or interact with something, then get back on their other mount.

You’re going to get ONE of the items, usable on ONE character, ONCE. You’ll have to pay gold to get the ability that you’ve had stolen from you back. Calling it the ‘best’ or ‘correct’ mount is just stupid. It’s only best when you need to cross water. That’s it. There is no other circumstance.

3.) If you have qualms about the sky golem, speak yo about it. Theres no reason a gathering type equipment slot couldn’t be created and bought in line with other mounts.

There’s also no reason the water strider couldn’t be left alone like the sky golem is. It would be just as simple and people would be happy. You sock puppets who cry about being ‘forced’ to use it can pay to use whatever you want and the rest of us aren’t slapped in the face and told to screw off for the hard work we did to get the thing.

Fishing is unutterably boring. The ONLY reason I did it was for that stupid mount. And now that’s being taken away.

I do, I literally took every other mount off my bars because I only just the strider for the WW. Why would I waste time dismounting once I’m near water then mounting up again then repeating once off the water?

So what you’re saying is you didn’t do it for the mount, to have a cool looking water bug, you did it for the WW ability.

Pretty sure they wouldn’t do that. Equipment at the impact of what they have planned so far does not have the same gameplay implications as flying. They are no where the same. The reason they lock flying is because they want to you to explore the world and story they built before you can just fly over everything. They want there to be that early level of threat and danger of having to navigate through a new and dangerous area/world.

Absentia, exactly. Look back at the discussion before legion when they wanted to remove water-walking because it aided characters in bypassing certain terrain. So they make this change, and next expac, or zone addition comes out, and they lock the water-walking equipment because now they can control it. Forcing you to regain it over and over and over and …over…and over… it sets a clear and obvious bad precedent.

A viable solution: Make an X number of NEW MOUNTS that can use this new system. All OLD MOUNTS should be ineligible for the equipment. Of course if Blizz is just trying to give us something cool and not take away something that has been a thorn in their side.

FYI I did it for the mount, not the ability. But having the Ability is nice to have. ALSO, being a LW i can double up the bridle if i want.

Well lucky for you, you can still have the ability and still have it for alts. They did you a favor and isolated the ability from the mount, as you didn’t do it for the mount anyways, and now you can use the ability (that you wanted and did the grind for) on a mount you do want/like.

You are oversimplifying this like crazy.

I got the mount ONLY because it could walk on water. And I’m ok with that because that’s what it does. Walks on water. Should I feel bad for grinding out a flying mount because it flies? Should someone feel bad for getting a mythic weapon from Jaina? Almost no one else has it…why should they?

It all needs to stop.
