Was Cataclysm the

First bad iteration of World of Warcraft?

Cataclysm wasn’t even that bad. People just didn’t like dragonsoul and the pacing felt slow probably because of all the development time spent on the old world had them behind on the new world.

In classic, all of that is already done and with phases, the content patches will be quick.

Cata classic will unironically be the better version of cata.

Imagine WoD classic with only two raid tiers. We will be in WoD and onto Legion in under a year. That’s going to make WoD feel packed!

The pacing was slow, because they were planning to include an underwater themed raid in Vashj’ir, but everyone hated Vashj’ir with the burning passion of a thousand suns, so that was scrapped. That led to a content drought because all the time they put trying to develop that raid was time they weren’t developing the next raid.

I’d honestly like to see a Cata with Microsoft putting some resources into giving us the underwater raid we should have gotten the first time round. A Cata with at least some of the problems of the original fixed.

Cata was also the point where they started introducing new enemies by “weakening” existing heroes. The dragon aspects gave up their powers to defeat Deathwing. Existing heroes became corrupted by the Sha and killed. Sylvanas started going off the deep end. We were sent back in time to retrieve a new set of heroes from the past to be come corrupted and die. Given how much players came to hate that trend, the storyline could do with some tweaking to remove some of that.

it was the first one to leave a bad taste
but that was because Dragonsoul and LFR
everything before that was pretty neat
pacing was slow tho
also the molten front and firelands was LIT

they came out and said the reason they scrapped the raid was because it looked like garbage compared to firelands

Vanilla was. It casualized the MMORPG for the stinky masses. The hardcore RPGers are a better class of human and deserve praise.

Woah woah woah. I thought Vash’jir was awesome. It was unique and visually amazing.

It was either a hate it or love it zone.

I don’t even think Cata was that bad. It was probably the first xpac where if you haven’t logged in over a year or 2, this felt like a completely different game.

Cata wasn’t “bad” anymore than current retail isn’t “bad”. Cata was when wow became a different game all together. RDF, LFR, trivialized leveling, End game/Raid focused, world content put aside …

All of these things didn’t make the game bad. They just made it different than it was. I still enjoy post-wrath WoW … Just not as much as pre-cata wow.

As an absolute casual, cata was absolutely fine to me. It was the first expac that I started getting into endgame content. My biggest griefs with the expansion was probably the changing of my favorite zones and a bit slow in the beginning.

Cata was fine really. It just traumatized the spoiled, lazy WotLK face-rollers used to super-easy content & those who hated the old-world zone changes. I enjoyed it more than Vanilla, TBC or WotLK. I wasn’t a fan of MoP xpac after Cata though, due mostly to the Disney theme of it & awful/silly Panda race (the classes played fine though). That was when I finally retired from WoW (towards end of MoP), at least until Classic was released.

I didn’t hate it or love it. Every alt I would switch between leveling in mt hyjal or that place. It wasn’t as terrible as people say though. I think they just got disoriented from the swimming and combat.

Cata changed the physical world and generally is accepted as the start of retail.

There is probably enough appetite for Cata classic but I personally would probably go back to Vanilla or a Wrath SOM if offered.

I also loved it, but when you have an entire concept that half the population loathes, that does not make for a good raid experience.

It was the best iteration.

Honestly, I think most people just got burned out by the Cata got out. Face it, one of the expansion was going to be “it”.

it wasn’t bad tho, people just got mad because old world got replaced and dragon soul suck.

Cata has THE best versions of Sylvanas and Garrosh

Cataclysm was a wash from the start. Took all the bad things from Wrath and built core gameplay around that.

Cata is the best expansion by a country mile if you like PvP.

PVE was DOA in cataclysm. Some people might enjoy 2 hours of clearing dungeon trash for badges and a blue, but most did not and they left. The mostly mandatory rep grinds in phase one was also the beginning of an ugly trend.

I think it was the first time bliz tried their whole, we know what you like routine. They clearly haven’t learned anything in all these years.
