!Warning! players are being wrongfully mass perm banned for "hacking"

(Was told to repost here within this section)

Hello, my name is Mitsumi and I /had/ a lvl 50 mage on the new fresh classic realms. Today my main account was wrongfully and permanently shut down due to “Hacking”. I have been a loyal player of this game for over 15 years and have never cheated, used a script, auto hot keys, or whatever else there is out there that would be hacking.

After doing some research, I quickly found out I was not alone. I made a post about this on Reddit and a handful of server discords and was shocked to see the number of other mage players reaching out to me going through the same thing. I’m happy to see, though, that a handful of them have been unbanned, but they have claimed all of their unbans have been through Twitter, Reddit, or here on the forums and not the official appeal system.

After talking to everyone, we’re still not 100% sure what is causing our accounts to be wrongfully flagged for cheating, but we have all either done or spammed spell cleave dung groups while leveling. The only thing we can think of this has to be some anti-botting auto-detection that is going haywire.

Until this is looked at and fixed BE WARNED - YOU MIGHT WANT TO AVOID ANY/ALL MAGE AOE DUNG FARMS, SM CATH, SOLO ZF, ETC! I have over fourteen DMs of people who have had their accounts perm-banned due to whatever is going on. Below I’ll link a few related posts by other players currently going through this. And to any staff member that may come across this threat please feel free to reach out to me! I have a lot of people trying to figure out how to get their accounts back, and I have over 4 hours of recorded footage of me playing and AoE leveling on the account I was banned on for “hacking”.

(Sorry, it says on the forums that I’m unable to post links on this thread. Feel free to message me here to view their posts. Most are trying to get their accounts back but some have been unbanned.)

Again, please be careful if you are a part of any SM, Mara, or ZF AoE farm groups. This last ban wave might have gotten a lot of legit farming bots but the number of real players that got caught in this crossfire is massive! BE CAREFUL!

They are mistaking or lying. The only way to get a ban overturned/reduced is through appeals.

A spell that Blizzard put into the game wouldn’t cause their anti cheat system to trigger.

There has probably been a recent banwave. These do, unfortunately, sometimes catch innocent players in them.

That’s not going to happen.

They have to put in appeals. That’s it. That’s the only way.

Neat, Blizzard doesn’t accept any outside evidence. They go by their logs and their logs alone.

The spin-doctors of the botting communities seem to be working overtime to spread misinformation and provide excuses to use when caught.

Happens every time there is a ban hammer drop. We start seeing the same couple of excuses - almost word for word…

Thanks a lot for all the info - this is my first time ever being banned so I’m just learning as I go and basing it off what others have passed down and told me.

How do you know if it was wrongfully shut down? Only way to know this is to see if Blizzard made an error on their end by submitting an appeal.

The catergory of hacking, cheating and exploits aren’t limited to you using it, but possibly also what the Warden has detected on your computer. Could also be stuff unrelated to World of Warcraft as well.

How many years you have been playing doesn’t prevent from any actions.

Oh yes, lets all rely on reddit. The one source where a lot of misinformation and disinformation gets spread about Blizzard Entertainment and the policies that Blizzard does go by.

And how do you exactly know if the stories are truthful or not? Anyone can claim anything, doesn’t mean it is exactly true.

This is not the place to make warnings like this, and this is not the place to spread false messages like this. If Blizzard know there is some sort of huge error where innocent players are getting caught unexpectly, they would post an annoucement in appropiate locations, such as Blizzard Support.

Making post of false claims of “being wrongfully banned”, and telling people to not play a certain class, as well as spreading mis/disinformation is a form of trolling.

Some more useful articles. As mentioned, you can only appeal, and Blizzard would make the decision to either upheld or revert the decision. But they go by their logs, and the logs will show everything.

Appeal and be patient. While I personally never believe these posts, Blizzard has proven me wrong in the past. Either way there is no automated system, and mass reporting does exactly nothing if the reports are shown to be false. I will say it once more. Appeal and be patient. Making a ticket and then coming here immediately does not help you, as GMs are not here.

Keep putting in appeals. Noone here can do anything.
Something is going on with the anticheat program and only blizz can see what it is.

maybe play the game how it was intended to be played instead of min maxing the fun out of it for everyone? If you’re taking the path botters do to level up quickly don’t be shocked that you got flagged for being one.

Probably not.

You’ll find out all the actioned accounts that get hit by the mass ban hammer, it’s an extremely low percentage of false positives.

The number of posts we are seeing in this forum about being actioned is pretty much similar to every other post-mass ban pattern we’ve seen.

There is often a lot of increased activity on reddit, discord etc - a lot of these posts are by bot makers or affiliates who are doing their best to ‘save face’ and continue to claim that their bots are 100% safe to use.

This gives the impression that a lot of people have been falsely banned - in an attempt to discredit Blizzard.

Seen this time and time again.

I would highly suggest changing the aggressive stance. This is not the place for that at all.

Here’s the thing: reddit has figured out that lying about blizzard to make blizzard look bad results in upvotes (especially about account actions, and the policies and practices behind them) so should therefore not be considered a reliable source on this topic.

That is also why they look at the logs and even watch the action live. Not just only use warden

If you have that many account actions, something you are doing is causing their system to flag you. That has nothing to do with what looks like a very recent ban-wave.

I’m not aware of any way to put a single day of game time onto an account. Your situation definitely sounds much different than that of the OP.

And no, Blizzard has never given out details on account bans beyond some very generic info like cheating, botting etc.

Blizz gave out a free day for extended maintenance in August

Very low. Like, it is hard to determind how low, but we do know it is very low.

I think I’ve only seen 1 person here in CS where they have had actioned overturned, and that was less than a week ago, and unrelated to this thread.

Speculation. You do not know how many would’ve been banned in the recent banwave, and you do not know how many would’ve had action overturned if were innocent caught in the recent banwave.

Who has?

It has? If you mean the handful of threads here, it’s not telling at all. In fact, very few people come to the forums to post compared to the number of players overall, it’s extremely limited.

There are undoubtedly those who would love this to look like it’s some sort of huge mistake though.

At the end of the day, the only way to have it looked into is to put in an appeal. There are zero other ways to have an account action looked at.

Truth is, I don’t. But it is highly unlikely it would be a high amount of people.

Pooh, I am not going to speculate numbers or percentages. I do not have the data, and this is not the place to speculate.

They do not share that info

We do not know since blizzard does not give that information out
