It depends a bit on the race, but for a majority of them I think I prefer the current, but not by a landslide. Like I would be fine different hand positions and movements, but the hunched over stance makes me think of how much back pain I’d have after doing a few dungeons or a raid. I don’t think it’s bad, but I don’t know if it’s what I’d consider the most practical stance.
Nice to see someone of the community council to notice this.
The problem is, it doesn’t make sense for Blizz to put different idle animations for Mage and Warlock yet share the same one ingame. It was meant to be given that update of class identity but Warlocks got the short end of the stick in Legion.
The animation for Warlock should be that crouched down appearance. What warlock goes around casually flinging spells like some orderly-arcane mage?
Fair, it’s obviously in the game so it’s weird that it wasn’t implemented into the actual game.
And I agree that different casting animations would be great. It would help separate the classes a bit more.

They don’t have to be standing completely stiff and upright like the mage, but I don’t want them to bent over like a 60 year old with a bad back. I know this is fantasy and reality gets bent a lot, but I can’t imagine keeping that stance through an entire raid and multiple dungeons.
For me it just seems a bit too exaggerated I guess. Like if you are trying to do a quick intimidation thing, sure. But if that’s the default position you just rest in, please think about your spine.

This is what was suppose to happen during the Legion expansion. Unfortunately, not all of the classes were touched up in time.
But the Warlocks got their part of the spotlight late. In turn, this also affected the idle casting animation.

Having alternative animations would be nice to see, but I’ll end up dying on this hill at this point and keep hollering about it (excluding these past 12 days) until a dev response is given.
I think it’s absolutely awful. If I wanted to be hunched over nearly constantly, I’d play Undead.
I hope to see this adressed going into TWW.

As do I. All I’m looking is for one or two replies from a dev. Someone from the Community Council has been a step in the right direction.
Hopefully with community attention it gets brought to life.
It won’t.
As much as warlocks deserve love (like other classes & specs that I won’t mention here), there appears to be a lack of attention to detail when it comes to visual identity.
I won’t speak to the difficulty of programming these changes, however, I’ll speak to the speed at which these changes are done.
Some of the things people are asking for are already in the game, yet for years on end players are stonewalled with virtually zero communication or any way of measuring the impact of their collective feedback.
I still can’t get over how forgotten warlocks were in an expansion where they should’ve shined alongside Demon Hunters. It is perfectly possible for classes to SHARE identity (i.e. both classes can have metamorphosis that functions and looks differently).
It’s disgusting to have a developer say outright to their players that “we’d rather you not play this specialization…” due to their intended plans of restructuring it.
I hope the stance gets added, but I wouldn’t count on it happening soon. Despite the size of the company, it seems like even small decisions have to travel up a biased to chain to be implemented.
This was well written so thank you for taking the time.
I every once in awhile look up that clip of Ion saying “we rather you not play” I about feel out of the chair watching that live. Yes it was a jest but it was a rare look at the inside workings of how things happen, or the appearance of them.
Left me wondering how many other specs that felt clunky or under performing were in the same boat. And even now I look at the game much differently than I did prior to that interview happening.

Bumping to revive this thread.
Forgetful to make this active again. Round 2 of bumping.
Tippy top bumping.
Morning, morning, Idle Casting bumping
I didn’t see this in the notes at all as fixed or acknowledged?

Unfortunately no. There has still been no mention or notes on this animation implementation. With the classes getting hero talents, it is the PERFECT opportunity to get more awareness on it but the forums can only do so much. Even my twitter attempts have been fruitless but I’ll be damned if I just lay on the floor and give up.
Just spam their twitters. They do not come here

I’ve tried contacting one dev but I don’t know which one is the proper one to reach out to.
If more people than myself get this topic traction and awareness, that would cover a lot more ground than a singular person can do.
