I generally agree. I feel like votekicks exist to prevent a non-existent situation where someone is so bad that they somehow cannot complete heroic level content. Or situations where a troll is intentionally sabotaging a group. I think they should remove the feature. That, or votekicks should require group-wide consensus instead of just majority vote. As long as you have a tank and a healer being played by someone with -at least- the intelligence of a rat, or maybe a hamster, you can clear any queued content in the game.
LFR might be a different story, but I don’t really do LFR because it is boring to me. 99.999% of times though, when I see a votekick go out, I see it go out due to a genuine one time mistake that is often apologized for. Someone with no knowledge of the game will initiate a votekick, and everyone will follow suit because a lot of people doing normals or leveling dungeons are people who don’t know how the game works either. So they just see the votekick pop up, assume someone is somehow sabotaging the dungeon, and click yes.
This has happened several times to me. One time (literally on this character), I got kicked from the dungeon because a tank overpulled and died even though the group didn’t even wipe. The tank, I’m assuming, got mad and votekicked me even though he died an unpreventable death, where his health went from 100-0 inside of 3 seconds in Wailing Caverns back when the casters in that dungeon were accidentally ridiculously overtuned at the beginning of BFA. I would say 1/20 dungeons I queue for as a healer, I get unjustifiably kicked due to someone elses mistake.
And I know I’m not a bad player. At least not such a bad player that I prevent queued content on the level of normal and heroic from being cleared. I am pretty confident that it is always the error of another person. I have to say this because I know someone is going to come out of the woodwork and just assume I deserved every kick. But just look at my dungeon history from this season. I have completed every single dungeon on at least a 10 on Tyrannical difficulty (including Ruby Life Pools, Al’gethar, and a few others which are infamous for being hard on healers) at least two or three times.
So how must a new healer feel when they actually make a genuine mistake? How would they even tell? There was a bugged boss in Razorfen Kraul for several weeks after the Dragonflight prepatch that prevented groups from finishing the dungeon. I saw THREE HEALERS get kicked during this time, and was kicked on my tank during this time. The boss hit my level 30 tank for 40k. His health was probably around 20k.
And keep in mind, these are classic dungeons that new players can’t access anymore until they level a new character to max level at least once (iirc). Imagine how bad it is in BFA dungeons which are infamous for being difficult to complete.
It’s not the healers fault when something like that happens. But even if it is their fault, does a new player deserved to get kicked from a dungeon because of a wipe? Absolutely not. But I just know there are probably thousands of new players out there who try the game, get constantly kicked, flamed, and deserter debuffed for mistakes that are out of their control. I don’t think the kick option should exist. Period. At least in dungeons where a majority of only 3 people can get you booted.
And before someone says “then people would just intentionally ruin dungeons for fun”, you literally can right now. If you join a dungeon, and attempt 3-4 kicks in a row that don’t go through, it disables the kick feature in the dungeon. After that, you are free to troll to your hearts content. You know how I know that? I literally SAW it happen twice. In both instances, the troll got bored and left after 5 minutes. So the situation where this causes a disband is essentially nonexistent. And even if it was, that is only a problem because of the deserter debuff.
