If Voidform is really staying it just means another two and a half years that my Priest sits in a shelf.
Blizzard ruined the entire spec imo when they added this Void nonsense and until it’s removed in entirety I won’t touch the class.

Sounds like arcane mage with their 4 charges of arcane orbs then spent on other skills.
I stopped playing my prot pally when I got to nazjatar and pulled everything in the zone. Guardian has more options for single target.
when it hits…it hits when you don’t really need it. Thank you for firing up…when I am on the last mob who is about to die anyway.
Would have been nice to see you when it was a 3 on 1, I was working my butt off to not die and whittle down the 3 mobs. Better late than never…I guess?
Man of iron will
I’m not a priest so I can’t say I’m abandoning mine, but it was on the table for a possible overthrow of the Shaman.
When I dungeon I jsut don’t use VF and eat the DPS loss.
Anyone that has a alpha/beta go in there and explain this to Blizz.
Shadow priests.
Shadow.
Not void!
When voidform ruined the shadow priest style I liked so much, I struggled to just deal with it.
My priests are all bank alts now, and only ever venture out to do the 2k gold emissaries. They don’t get geared, they aren’t getting neck essences, they sit and browse the AH/hold my BoA gear.
I love my Druid, don’t care for Bear though, all about Resto and Boomie
The execution of Void Form is one of the clunkiest designs ever made by the devs.
The visual is hella cool though. Which is why I keep this love/hate relationship with my spriest.
Good. Voidform is a unique and central part of shadow priest gameplay. Blizzard needs to fix it, not scrap it.
Shadow sucks lol it’s one of the worst dps specs in the game I have a better time questing in Holy xD
Disc is pretty good, actually, a bit slow but tough.
Shadow feels ok at low levels, but it’s just too squishy later, and void form is pretty damn useless for most quest mobs.
For 4 years now, every Shadowpriest player has been thinking of ways to fix Voidform without completely reworking Shadow.
I have read every proposal. Nobody has come up with a solution that actually fixes Voidform without removing the long ramping mechanics that are the core of the Voidform Model. It cannot be done.
All the long ramping mechanics must go. What remains might still be called Voidform, but at the very least, this list must go, and any new borrowed power like them:
Long Ramp Mechanics:
Delete all of that, and you can do pretty much anything with what’s left and the spec will function well - but gutting so much leaves Voidform in a place where you need to build a whole new spec into the hollow that remains.
That is why many people advocate reverting to the previous design that was widely appreciated, and worked well: MOP/WOD Shadow Orbs. It would be less work to revert to Shadow Orbs, than fix Voidform.
If you want to propose a solution, I am all ears. But the problem is that there is no easy fix here. Voidform will continue to suck for all non-raid boss content, and will continue to be a balance nightmare swinging between broken and OP every tier, unless every single “long ramp mechanic” listed above is removed.
Time will tell if it helps in dungeons.
Shadow and Aff will be better in dungeons with the nerfing of melee cleave so things live longer. Shadow does well in low-mid 20 range with tanks that play around them and actually chain pull to maintain voidform stacks. Shadow Priest in a group that plays around them actually outdamages a lot of dps specs because their damage is consistent and has next to no downtime.
The issue is groups don’t want to play around them and then blame the priest for constantly dropping out of vf because they are going for big pulls instead of chain pulls.
Blizzard only acts on a small percentage of items that the community actually wants.
The ignore the rest.
I don’t mind void form… I HATE tentacle form
This makes me a sad Gnome.
(hangs head in sadness)
I actually blame affliction warlocks more for the state of shadow. The 2 specs are conceptually identical to each other but unlike priests, warlocks have 2 other options for doing their 1 role.
Like DH, the “pures” need to have 2 specs. Hunters can have their range and melee spec, rogues can have their assassian or swashbuckler, mages should have arcane and a hybrid of frost and fire (maybe alternate between them) or do something with blood mages and have the other spec be arcane (since fire and frost are sub types of arcane magic in lore IIRC), and warlocks can have their demon lord or fire and brimstone spec (and maybe add enfeeblement to it).
I’d also change priests to have a healer spec and a DPS spec. Maybe via talents could one play more like a holy or disc priest. And yes, I’d also modify DK’s and warriors also to have a tank and DPS spec and use talents to properly orient them. Each class would have one spec for each role they can do.
Personally, I like void form but I agree it has far too many crutches and it needs all these mechanics to be made baseline to make the spec viable…or another way to look at it is priests play is so 1-dimensional that they can only succeed in environments where they can turret.
Great post, OP.
Also: every streamer who reviewed Shadow Priest in the BEGINNING of Alpha stated that it needed a lot of work to be FUN. Nothing came of it.
And yet, here we go again relying on “borrowed power” to make it fun. But it doesn’t make it fun, it makes it viable to win. But not fun. There’s a huge difference.
Blizzard: delay the expansion for a week and look into changes for the Shadow Priest. It’s not too late. Please.
