Voidform confirmed to stay

Blizzard has been pushing this for 4 years now. Artifacts and Azerite were meant to break you. You didn’t yield. Now Blizzard is dropping the hammer and saying “enough is enough, we’ve tried to poke and prod you and you didn’t budge. Now you need to commit.”

I thought shadowplay saw some PvP play? Also, Blizzard is adding devouring plague to help with questing. Time will tell if it helps in dungeons.

What’s wrong with voidform? I don’t play shadow priest much except for gold emmisaries so please explain.

It’s a “spender” but instead of doing big damage like most spenders it basically enables you to start doing damage. But the problem is in a lot of situations the fight is over by the time Shadow Priest actually gets to start doing damage.

Well that is a bit unfortunate.

Some people looking for an advantage in PvP or dungeons would play the least fun spec in the game if it meant parsing higher numbers.

I’m talking about it feeling good to actually play, not it parsing with high numbers.

I’ll see what DP does, but I rather doubt it’s going to solve the problem.

Have you tried popping cooldowns?

I agree void form sucks, priest is the only class I don’t have at 100+.

I think void form would be great if you could build it up in a few globals, like warlock meta. Or if they just made it a big banana dps cooldown, like DH meta. This “try to keep it in the air” thing doesn’t work, really, in any non-raid environment, and their proposed “fix” is another pointless ramp that (I know, numbers are numbers) is still worse than pressing void form.

Covenants and Soulbinds shouldn’t be used as bandaids to fix the broken bones of a spec.

The idea isn’t bad, the execution is. Anything that requires movement, CCs you, whatever, burns the insanity. You only get to do the nice dps while in voidform, and you’re losing insanity faster by the second the longer you’re in it. You only make insanity by doing dps; so if a boss goes invuln or moves or anything, you make no insanity and you drop out of void form and have to build back up to 90-100 insanity before you use it.

Of course, it is apparently balanced for a patchwerk fight, so if you can stand still the damage is good. In a M+ or any other fast paced content? It feels bad.

Yet they will, as will whatever 10.0 adds after them.

This is the real problem with so many endgame systems, they let problems fester for years.

What existed before void form?

The mechanics of voidform need to be crunched down. You spend too much time in the build-up and powered-up phases. It should be more like fury warriors with quick constant transitions between their build up and powered-up phases. Obviously a little more drawn out then fury, but you get the idea. I think that would make voidform more manageable.

Shadowform. Your resource was Shadow Orbs, built up by casting Mind Blast. You used them for Devouring Plague.

I’m not sure if even halving the insanity required to get into voidform would do the trick.

Who knows. I like the idea of voidform, and in general the idea that you build up to enter a super-powered state that you try to prolong. It sounds really fun, but unfortunately it’s hard to implement due to it being so unforgiving.

Well, and the game just isn’t designed for that sort of thing; especially not with hard casts and channels. I bet if priests could move while casting in voidform it would be pretty great, or close, anyway.
