That’s the ret-con, as seline as a charecter did not exist till legion. Originally the lore said they founded the church on the premises that they beleived the light shunned them.
How does void elf holy priest work? How does Disc priest work?? lol both would wield both void and light magic, The lore has been there for ages.
Yea thats stupid and flat out bad writing.
Seline’s work would support the notion. Not a retcon to me.

Again… the same argument, read the thread. It’s been debunked SO much.

Well, I think they started with a simple concept and didn’t really think through making it complex.
If thats the case then dont change the rules for 1 class over the other.
This argument is asinine.
The ret-con was when the worship was developed. AS it was originally the forsaken that developed it, not seline until legion.
Blizzard added Priest to Void Elves because it made since due to Shadow spec. They weren’t going to lock out 2/3 of the specs for players, but canonically it was obvious that their holy and disc specs were non-canon. That was why we had never seen any light wielding Void Elves until now. It’s a retcon no matter how you spin it.
Lightforged warlocks? L:ightforged shadow priests? Lightforged DKs?

If I found a super unknown obscure tome/mathematical equation of something, I could seemingly make it my own though.
I see your point, I’m just saying to me, that’s not a retcon but an evolution.
Bro we only saw Umbric in 90% of Void Elf events. There is nothing in the lore that even hints that they cannot use the Light. You should have your character renamed, Lore is not your strongsuit.
Pretty much, the only difference is they choose to ret-con the side-effects of magic interacting each other then an entire class.
If I had to choose one or the other, I’d choose the 1st one.
The point of the matter is real simple, wow’s lore isn’t that good. It has inconsistencies literally everywhere.
So ill never understand why ppl get angry about the idea of VE paladins. All it needs is an easy retcon according to blizz.
Do you think Umbric is the only Void Elf? There were actually quite a lot of Void Elf NPCs throughout Battle for Azeroth, and they ALL used Void abilities.
Lightforged warlocks? L:ightforged shadow priests? Lightforged DKs?
Lightforged Warlock are explained in a Quest.
LF Draenei may be Soul Priests? Because even Draenei don’t treat with the Void. We don’t see any so I’d assume a LF Draenei is a Holy Priest.
Priest is a general class trying to represent across many classes/cultures.
Again, are you going to sit here and argue that Night Elf/Nightborne Priests are not Priests of Elune? And that thematically the class works for them?
Were there? I only recall Umbric showing up during the questlines, along with the PCs. There are other void elves that exist but I don’t recall them being participants during the leveling or war campaign, nor when I came back from 8.2 > 9.1.
There’s also never been anything in the lore saying that you cannot use void and light, that is commonly shown to be possible.
If you use the void, you’re lacking the requirements to use the light.
That’s canon.
Admittedly, it takes a bit of logical thinking to figure this out.

Ah, well they announced all classes and races at some point. I’m not against it. They are doing their best to make sense of it.
Discipline Priest.
