We just need to pump Void Elves with so much light they pull a Naru and become Light Elves!
But seriously if Light touch void = boom how does the ashbringer exist? It was literally a void artifact (dark naru remains) struck by and filled with light. Why didn’t everyone go boom if that’s how it supposedly works?
Hint: Because it doesn’t. The only reason the void and light act volatile in reaction to each other is because characters think they do. Literally if Alleria and her husband didn’t have hang ups about her being infused with void and him being infused with light they could touch just fine. Thanks Xera you indoctrinating creep.
I remember before void elves got open customization the anti high elfers used to talk about how we’d never get non void skin colors and hair colors. How silvermoon is for the horde only, how we will never see paladins. And now the opposite of everything they said is happening or is about to. It’s like they are a freaking crystal ball that predicts the opposite of whatever it says.
There is no true evidence that the void and light explode into contact with each other. This is false conjecture that rampantly spread falsely as fact. In fact the opposite is true, if light and void exploded on contact void naruu wouldn’t be able to exist as the chandelier would just blow up instead. It is true that light and void are opposite in nature but the idea that void+light=blow up simply isn’t based in reality.
seems like High Elves becoming an actual race on the alliance is next to happen then given their current posting about “there are no high elves in the alliance to make into a race now that they’re all in Quel’thalas”
On top of that Quel’thalas becoming neutral seems to be in line with that given there other uhh “Gloating”
I made it thru about half the thread and here are my notes. Take them as you please.
Paladins do not simply wield light magic, they are infused by it, which is why they will explode if mixed with void.
Priests are not infused by light magic or void magic, they simply wield each, which is why they are able to wield both without exploding. Further, they wield light magic and void magic in separate spells, not blended.
Druid use light magic from Elune (and nature magic from the Emerald Dream) so any race who is infused with void or fel or death magic should not be able to be druids.
Death Knights are infused with death magic so light-forged draenei would cease to be light-forged, since it is a life magic, if they were raised as death knights.
(And light magic being a life magic means Calia Menethil would have been brought back to a state of life, not undeath, by the light.)
Shaman’s only requirement is a connection to the elements so I don’t see why there would be any restriction on them as the elements clearly don’t care that orcs are fel-corrupted so why would they care about void.
Orc’s use and exposure to fel energies corrupted then to point that it turned their skin green and it breeds true so technically they shouldn’t be able to wield light magic without being cleansed by it first. But since they are ‘corrupted’ rather than infused and they are simply wielding light magic, I am willing to give them a pass when it comes to priests (and mages as arcane is in direst opposition to fel). But they definitely shouldn’t be able to be paladins unless they are cleansed first, turning their skin back to brown.
Undead/forsaken are infused with death magic and can only use light magic if they have great-enough strength of will to endure the extreme pain it causes them. (My son was a lore nut, mained an undead priest and used to do a hilarious mix of choking and wailing to convey the pain whenever he had to heal folks who stood in fire.)
Light-forged draenei do not simply wield the light, they are infused with it, so they should not be able to be balance or void priests or warlocks.
Void elves do not simply wield void magic, they are infused by it, which is why they will explode if they attempt to use light magic so they should not be able to be paladins or priests.
Culturally, night elf mages should not exist.
Culturally, draenei warlocks should not exist.
Culturally, mag’har orcs warlocks should not exist.
I think that is everything, although when you add it up, there are a heck of a lot of race/combos so I might have missed a few.
But, regardless, the reality is Blizzard has decided all races/all classes and it is their game to botch and break as they see fit so none of this really matters. I just wish they would do class skins where it doesn’t fit lore-wise, but I do not see them putting in the extra work for that since they clearly don’t respect the lore.
Zeliek. Zeliek shows that there is a way for death magic to coexist with Light, so it stands to reason Void-inflused entities might be able to use the Light as well without self-destruction.
That’s a take and a half. Druids aren’t nature-oriented Priests, they’re druids. There’s no reason Void entities wouldn’t be able to use nature-based magic, and undead druids could be squared without much difficulty by just calling them druids of the Rot.
Again, Zeliek proves undead and Light magic do not need to be exclusive.
Apparently not, whatever method raised her with the Light was infused with enough deathly energy to create a new type of undead rather than a living individual again.
What? BE drank deep on that fel juice and were Paladins without any issue, Orcs should be prime Paladin candidates.
OK, cool RP, but not a reason to hard-deny anything.
BE mixed Fel and Light with zero issue, and Zeliek squares Light and undeath. All is well.
Apparently not, someone found a way to either sequester their internal energies separately or the effects were actually overexaggerated or they found a way to mediate the effects so they just get DK-style agony or whatnot. Who knows?
Dumb reasons to try and deny class selections, all. Outliers exist, and the PC shouldn’t be restricted because of culture.
The ‘lore’ is malleable and even as it currently stands I don’t see why all races getting all classes is denied. Every class in this game is trainable, so if an individual has the drive to pursue it, there shouldn’t be any denial of a character’s preferred career.
The fact that you’re using this as an example of trash-fanfiction suggests that you can distinguish between good and bad writing, but you still support the bad.
This raises the question of why you argue for it.
When you begin to use the Void, you’ll hear voices attempting to persuade you to commit mass murder and stuff. Even if you have good intentions, you’ll have to fight this all the time. A sword doesn’t tell you to eat a body (but the void does indeed).
The light, on the other hand, makes u feel good, man. You must be the good guy to even be able to use it. the Draenei in the centre of Shattrath has some revieling insights in this regard.
Do they even have class specific lore?
Liadrin was a Priest before.
In contrast, the original belief system of Warcraft in novels, quest texts, and NPC quotes, as well as the old, non-canon RPG, from which much of the game is re-created, appears to be deeply developed. (Well, for warcraft standards.) So I cannot agree with you here.
Arthas surely spend some years.
However, even if there is no source that carries this out in detail, it follows from the abilities that a Paladin possesses that the training must last longer… since it takes time to learn new things. It’s natural.
The “point of view” comes into play here. From the perspective of lightwielders, the void is pure evil, and vice versa, because they are diametrically opposed. As a result, both Uther and Whitemane despise the void and refuse to tolerate it. However, this is not the reason one may call the Scarlet Crusade evil. Even if no dark magic is involved, they’re like “it’s light or death” and “the end justifies the means”. I’m confident that I do not need to explain the distinction between a reasonable and a fanatical attitude to you at this point.
It is worth noting that the silver hand, the argent dawn, and the scarlets didn’t refer to each other as heretics for no reason.
Alleria turned her back to the light. So she can’t be like uther.
I return that to you in the same way. We’re not making any progress like this. I’ll provide my sources later, don’t worry. There are plenty of them.
But I have three off the top of my head. One is the Warcraft “big bang” mentioned by Hellasha above, in which light and void collided (they wouldn’t react this way if they were compatible), and the other is why light is particularly harmful to undead.
(tl;dr it’s because of the void)
The conclusion is obvious: if the void magic in the undead is the true reason why the light is “painful to their existence,” then the light must cause the same, if not greater, harm to other void-like beings.
Turalyon and Alleria can’t touch each other without pain https://bnetcmsus-a.akamaihd.net/cms/template_resource/U5IQKY6K35271505861653212.pdf (page 29)
I think you’re actually asking how the Scarlet Crusade justifies them being the good guys. There are quite a few sources that shed light on their thinking. In short (!), they are very quick and hasty in labeling others as bad guys. A bad guy is anyone who is against the light or looks like one. And they think that extreme measures are justified to purify Lordaeron, since it’s for the “greater good”.
This prophecy refers to Illidan. Illidan uses fel. Fel origins of the twisting nether. The Twisting Nether was formed when light and void collided. I believe that is a more appropriate analysis here.
This is a tricky one. I want to clarify that it refers to objects, not to casters. So there is no faith involved.
But if you look into the detail of the interface…
… it appears that you had to choose a path (look at the colors!) and are unable to cross the line.
But I’m not saying that there aren’t opposing sources. The lore is contradictory. I’m just saying that the side I’m arguing for is more dominant. Of course, it would be better if Metzen made a few clarifications that don’t throw everything overboard. Maybe it will come to that in TWW.
As long as you don’t question it.
An exception demonstrates that there is a general rule.
Well, if Blizzard handles the issue the way you suggest, fair enough. Previously, there had to be a significant proportion of class representatives in a race for it to be playable. This is how they used to reject the exception argument.
But whose defintion gets used? That’s why this is such a poor position to take. The BE literally stealing Paladin was ‘dumb fanfiction’ then and that the Light is still willing to answer their call is goofy now, yet BE Paladins seem entirely acceptable for reasons. Don’t forget, one of their number was actually prophesied to save the day, so we even have a Chosen One trope to throw in the mix!
A race-class combo shouldn’t be denied based on some nebulous capacity to fuel fanfiction; all of our characters are fanfiction!
Yes. Consistency develops, but is almost never absolute. Void and Light are dangerous to mix together. Some mad lads figure out the secret sauce though and start mixing. This might include the PC. Should your average VE take up a Paladin libram? Probably not, but VE Paladins are anything but the average, and that includes potential PCs.
It’s because Blizzard’s headspace was still in the RTS version of Warcraft where every individual was stamped off of the same conveyor belt. It’s plainly clear that we are far beyond the typical norm of our cultures and backgrounds so it makes no sense that, even in the infancy of our careers, that we would be held back by such restrictions.
When you have a group of people that believe words have the power to reshape reality, that reality does not exist, that nothing is true, there is no good or evil, it comes across in the writing as Void Elf Paladins, nobody is evil just mentally ill, bad guys are victims and the product of environment, etc …
This will sadly never change unless Warcraft moves the story team outside California.
It simply will not happen, for the same reason you cannot grow bananas in the South Pole.
should they not also clear all racial special abilities too since they can cause an imbalance since for decades we have been hearing about the perfect class race combos?
IF you want to play x class you can bby changing races …
here is a good idea just let everyone play one character to max level and then they can retcon that character to whatever class they want once they get there any time they want … the game I remember trying that lasted 6 months
Lore is not static, it is something that grows and changes in my opinion.
Just because something is not approved of culturally does not mean it does not happen. Even in real life we see people do things that are not a part of their culture. In the case of Night Elf mages they were part of the high elves that used magic and were allowed to return to Night elf society. That did not change the overall culture of Night Elves. The same could go for Draenei warlocks. They are the past members of the Eredar that they Draenei have taken in or adopted so to say. That does not change their culture over all either.
In the case of Mag’har warlocks, that does not work for me. Not because culture because how fel energies change Orcs. They would not be brown anymore from my understanding but green. Because of that they should not exist in brown.
This is the one combo that still bugs me for those reasons. I hope blizz can make an NPC that can at least shed a little light behind it. Also for future maghar DHs
Just as uncorrupted orcs became warlocks, so can Mag’har.
The only issue with Mag’har warlock is the same issue with any race warlock, it lacks additional class specific customization options like Demon Hunter and Death Knight.
I just find it funny to see some of the familiar faces that are upset Void Elves will get Paladins are the same few who were against Void Elves receiving High Elf customizations
