Void Elf-High Elf Customization Thread

Calling teal “void black” doesn’t make it any sort of black.

Incidentally, this is a space grey iphone:

I think that qualifies as some shade of grey and definitely not black either.

here’s a black iphone:

Keep in mind people referred to it as black just in conversation when there was no black iPhone option that year and that’s not even the one I was thinking (tends to look different on different models imo buts it’s neither here nor there)

I would still second what Magnificent was saying about the current option being an answer to black and seemingly a Void Black.

That doesn’t take away from the fact you still want a more natural toned or pure black though.

If the hairstyle itself somehow changes how the way the color is perceived, then doesn’t that mean the color is not actually black then?

It’s not any kind of “black”. Fyrebusce fiction will never be validated by me.

It can be used as a substitute.

This doesn’t take away others / non regulars in these threads have popped in before and referred to the option as black as well.

Sure! I have no objection to saying you’re using it as a substitute for black. But it is a substitute. It is not in fact an actual shade that falls in the range that most people refer to as black.

And I daresay nearly every case of someone making that mistake was in reference to the forum avatar portrait which is small/compressed and at an angle and lit in a way that makes it easy to make that error. But it is not, in fact, the truth.

My screenshots clearly show that specific color being a teal that tapers at the end to a low contrast purple. It still, in no way, shape, or form, qualifies as “black” of any sort.

So we have people who mistake it for a black option.

We have people who simply see it as an answer to black / a Void black.

The common denominator to me is that it can be seen as a Void black.

Honestly we should just agree to disagree on this and stop here. Otherwise I will start to think you just want to troll me.

I already said the point we disagree on is neither here nor there, it doesn’t take away from the fact you want a pure black (more natural hair toned imo) color option. I’ve said that several times, which to my knowledge seems like a way of saying agree to disagree, so the idea that I want to troll you is a bit rude since I said that almost right away.

I would point out that it requires a close up and comparisons for anyone to realise it’s not black (I mean, personally as someone who used to mix paint for a living I would argue it is black just not jet black).

These are all shades of black.

I would only call one of those black of any sort.

Well okay, but they are all shades of black.

This is kind of cool, I can see it with exception of one. Lol.

Something to keep in mind is that digital representations of colours seem a lot brighter than they tend to be out in the wild with stuff like shade and lighting.

This.

Its what I use it for currently.

While it does look black in many lighting conditions in passing, even in those conditions getting a good look at it will reveal it for what it is. A dark teal.

We can easily use it for now.

I still want that black coloration our NPCs have.

This can work for both the Black and White. So long as its an unnatural shade of it it shouldn’t be against the void theme or look.

If its passable for some High Elf fans all the better in the end.

I feel like skin variation was an AR issue.

Put them on me and you get Black, greying black and really grey black.

I can understand people seeing it as black given our lack of a black right now.

I think you’re overthinking what hes saying.

I specifically picked that dark teal because it looked black on this toon.

It can suffice for now. Others might see it as a black tainted with the void making it shift towards another color.

Those are all shades of black?

What do they use to define black in that context? (I’m actually asking; I like color thoery.)

Don’t worry, Nico. That color is clearly not black.

I’m sure we’ll receive both natural and Voidy hair colors in a future for Void Elves, including real black.

:hugs:
