Void Elf-High Elf Customization Thread

The lore also does not have any room for dark-skinned or asian-featured humans on a planet with no Africa or Asia and where humans evolved from stone giants crafted by titans. The lore has a TON of gaps in it which allow for player freedom to create their own characters. Adding more options is ALWAYS a good thing.

I literally did not say it wasn’t. What I am saying is I think that Blizzard adding lore reasons for things, such as when they said the sunwell was purified when elves got golden eyes, is important for immersion.

But, following the example of human ethnic groups implied by their customization options, do you see the rabbit hole that leads to? We now have one ethnic group of humans in the lore, those descended from the Arathi in the Eastern Kingdoms, but player customization options imply at least 3 more. The writing team would have to come up with several more back stories going back ten thousand years, longer than human civilization on our own planet, to satisfy your immersion.

I simply disagree that it would be too much to ask for. I think that it is the bare minimum expectation for Blizzard to have lore reasons as to why things change or happen in communities or races. Again, the golden eye scenario with Blood Elves was a simple change. The justification was only a few sentences long. I’m not asking for thousands of years of lore, but I do think it’s important for them to rely on their own lore when they bend rules.

Uh, void elves have only existed both in-game and in the numbers we see in-game for a few years. (If you go by their own timeline, three years at most.) I don’t think they’d have to rewrite thousands of years of lore to satisfy anything. I think they could come up with a justification in a few minutes and just run with that.

Don’t get me wrong, if next expansion blizzard announced that Azeroth’s equator lies 5 degrees south of Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms, and Pandaria and there was a whole new hemisphere of the planet to explore with “Azfrica” and “Aztralia” continents full of new ethnic groups of existing races I would be ecstatic!

and this is what happens when you sacrifice consistency and logic for the whims of shallow snowflakes.

It’s just going to get worse. What’s sad is the lore is already in a bad state due to the recent narrative direction slamming into the ground; this kind of crap just compounds it.

I think that them adding racially diverse NPCs in Stormwind sort of implies that there weren’t other continents? But again, I think lore reasons for things is always an expectation in an MMORPG.

It’s your character, you can come up with your own reasons your character has purple skin or not.

That’s fair, and as an avid role player, many of us do. But that doesn’t mean that the lore isn’t important either. Role players have the opportunity to bend lore or follow it strictly but it’s there. It’s like the “pirate code”; it’s more guidelines.

are you down with regular orcs having regular, non-green skin then? Just ignore their fel-corruption? Just ignore the fact that would trivialize Mag’har orcs and their uncorrupted look?

i surmise most people would say no, that’s stupid; Meanwhile, void elves with bright skin and blonde hair are fundamentally the same issue.

I didn’t include the Horde races that have their own issues because he was talking about Alliance. (also I’m far more familiar with the Mechagnomes and Kul’tirans issues as I work with those communities a fair bit.)

It’s hard across the board to get players into a race that had several hoops to jump through. It’s a bar for any AR with dungeons especially right now because it’s difficult to setup a group for old content unless you’re guild is on board.

I just… Really want AR’s to just be available to new players.

In no way will that ever fix imbalances between the factions. That will take a lot more effort to fiddle with and none of the answers to actually shift that bar will be good ones.

It’s true Alliance has a belief that it’s a bigger issue than it is.

I think in maghar and DID cases you just need ready for war but you also have to do like two to three dungeons for DID… Don’t remember maghar…

Yeah… Racials were really bad Horde side.

Alliance side they’re really good.

Yes, one of the easiest things to improve player viewpoint would be a full mecha body.

Oh man, I love my vulpera and I will hurt anyone who goes after Meerah, but I would have chosen Gilgoblins (Kelfin) over them had I been in charge.

Kelfin and their allies would have been huge boons to the Horde. A naval force that can breath water uses seagiants, and makrura shock troops?

Horde needs the Kelfin.

While I get your view of it, blizzard was more trying to show them as Jack of all trades survivalist I think.

It’s not a bad thing for the Horde but I do think Kelfin would have been more helpful on their own.

Blizzard said the skin tones were so folk could RP their high elves.

I don’t mind your head canon here but it’s not in the lore anywhere.

In fact while blood elves got a few new npcs with blue eyes, Void Elves got no new natural skin toned npcs.

I think it was just blizzard trying to let folk play a high elf if they wanted, not meant to be lore accurate.

Human real world ethnic groups or dark skin for elves dwarves and gnomes doesn’t really go against any lore.

Void elves we play are from Umbrics group and all turned blue. Infused with the void and not even by an old God.

Don’t think those equate myself.

In either case void elves haven’t yet been shown to have those tones in game or in lore.

Like I said, use whatever you want to for RP or headcanons, some of us want them to explain it in the lore. Directly. So we don’t have to just make guesses.

I want a npc thing in the Rift that shows new void elves being made from wayfarers and scholars and that at the end of it some change greatly and some don’t. Randomize the result from our customization options.

Yes? I am down with dark-skinned humans ignoring their Arathi bloodline. I am down with light-skinned void elves ignoring their void corruption, including their leader Alleria. I am down with Ironforge dwarves rocking Wildhammer tattoos. Players can make their own characters with their own backstories. There are Mag’har orcs in the horde before orcs from the AU joined, Garrosh was one such.

and this is why we have a game in the state that its in. A game without a foundation that is respected, dies.

so let it die

make it free to play, make every race have any skin and/or hair color they want. Hell, give all races all the eye colors too!

let. It. Die.

you’re the second person defending this crap who thinks Alleria is the leader of the Void Elves. You dont even know the game you play; Magistrate Umbric is the leader of the void elves. This is word-for-word canon in any wowpedia/wow-wiki you’d like to look up, not to mention, the actual in game lore …

In either case void elves haven’t yet been shown to have those tones in game or in lore.

There are barely any void elf NPCs in the game to begin with. In fact, there are more high elf NPCs thus far.

well my character was standing next to Alleria when she absorbed a darkened Naaru and so has a similar void infusion. If racial diversity is diminishing enjoyment of something for you, you might not be as good a person as you think you are…

OK.

That doesn’t invalidate what I said.

Ultimately whatever you want to come up with is headcanon until they add it to the game… We so far haven’t seen that.

I want to see it, mind you, preferably with a massive update to the Telogrus Rift.

Oh we know Umbric is the leader of the Void Elves. But the story has mainly been focused around Alleria for the Void Elves.

please dont put words in peoples’ mouths to sound morally-superior; its old.

People changing and/or ignoring the lore for their FORCED racial diversity is diminishing the enjoyment for me.

no, many people are literally fighting tooth and nail that Alleria is the leader. That’s how bad its gotten with the community and its utter ignorance.

w-what does this have to do with Alleria not being their leader?
