Void Elf-High Elf Customization Thread

Well yeah, it’s like Sledge said, there was a lot of hee haw about too much similarity then they straight ctrl+c and ctrl+p.

I think what it shows is Blizzard will always go “nah dude no way” until they’re like “ackshully

They did the same maneuver with Zandalari Druid Dino forms when first asked gave some “well bear form is about being a bear” etc.

I’m actually making beer.

There’s reasons I post on Sledgehammer, and one is that I can own my cliches.

My point is more that there’s not any significant difference between a minor edit like a single shade off skin tone, or natural hair colors from an alliance race vs blood elves. It gets you the same visual trope of an elf.

I also think, to steal a term from a paper rpg, that the void touched aspect is their One Unique Thing that makes them interesting and more than just a duplicate race. They can have whatever background you want, but to go from an elf studying the void to a void elf seems to mean having the void become a part of your being, and there should be some representation of that in the model. It doesn’t need to be full on Voidberg, and I think that they could get a lot of effect out of some subtle touches. But I think that there should be some touch of void to every option.

Well, every void elf, no matter how they look and no matter if they never enter combat so void form never shows, has an inexplicable British accent.

So there’s that.

I get your point, I was saying I think Blizzard only tends to make up funky reasoning for why something isn’t a certain way “in the moment” until it happens. Then they’re like “yeah of course it’s this way”.

And I enjoy em more for that accent.

Agreed. And that’s why I think it’s a mistake to try and predict where they’re going to go next.

Regardless of the anti’s/pro’s, there is a clear loser here. The void elf fans that enjoyed the elves the way they where and wanted to see them developed more towards the void side of things. Seeing them go more into their natural looks is a loss for VE fans as they could be developed better with more unique void features.

Predicting, sure. But in terms of asking for customization that players wanted added - Blizzard has literally beckoned the players to suggest more ideas for what they’d like to see added as options for all the races.

The intent of every AR is you see their story explored with the culmination being they join a side. VEs are the only odd ones out in this regard. But I doubt we’ll see much of any AR having much significant race development story wise going forward.

And that’s all anyone is doing, putting out what they want to see in the customizations, be it new stuff or respect for distinction.

Hey guys there’s a shadow realm.

Just a note that character services are half off and I’d buy two faction changes if void elves had blonde hair. I’d actually buy them at full price.

ALLERIA HAS BLONDE HAIR

To be fair, I don’t think many characters that we create can have things that our faction leaders have. That evidence falls short when most faction leaders have distinct, unique customizations and models.

Alleria also acquired her void powers in a massively different way. You can’t compare.

So your stance on new customization is “that’s not a player character”. By that logic, then they should take away straight backed orcs. Thrall isn’t a PC.

And get rid of the Night Warrior that every night elf can be now.

Seems pertinent to bring up again that in the spirit of requesting additional lore for VEs as well as maintaining visual distinction that the request to have Alleria updated model wise + story to better reflect the void seems more valid than ever.
