Violator is a Violation?

I have had a character named “Violator” for well over a decade and today I received a name change order.
I appealed and only keep receiving form letters that it is against the code of conduct ?
After reading the naming policy and code of conduct, I honestly don’t understand why?
I read these forums regularly and know topics like this often receive a public breakdown/explanation.
Please can I get some input on how Violator is a violation.
Thanks in advance!

You need to Google that word and look at the third definition down.

This is appeal worthy, that’s the best we can offer player to player.

Having firsthand experience with reported names, there is no guarantee that a name will always be safe to use. A name could have went unreported for years or have been investigated by certain GMs that personally did not see a problem with it, resulting in those specific people not doing anything at the time, only to have another GM come in later and decide that the name is not appropriate.

Because one of the definitions of “violator” refers to a heinous act of victimization.

If you weren’t given any suspension time for the name then I would just take the name change and move on since that means you probably don’t have a history of name violations. Just understand that anything that can be perceived as being offensive, insulting, degrading, or otherwise has a definition that is obviously inappropriate, is against the code of conduct. Also, don’t use the reported name again or you’ll get suspended so fast your head will spin like a cartoon character. Firsthand experience with that too.

i had no clue either. people get confused. people make mistakes though.

It might depend on the server type, RP servers have tighter rules.

It might also depend on class, if you have a pet you can customize the name on. You can also have non-combat pets with custom names. I suspect it to be a combo platter of names that might have been borderline.

But i will refer back to the appeal link.

It is a name based on an act that is not entirely friendly.
Though if that didn’t do it, I wonder if it’s due to that being the copyrighted name of a semi-known comic villain clown who uh, lived up to his name in the Spawn comics.

The third definition?

Wow…

The length of time one has a name - has no bearing on whether it is inappropriate.

This one is inappropriate.

Names are looked into when reported and the decision is made. Yes it is in violation, no, it’s ok - not in violation.

I believe others have covered why it’s inappropriate quite well.

I am aware of the meanings.

So you’re saying you actively chose the name based on those meanings? Social contract has resulted in tighter restrictions on in-game activities. No more chad troll names and chat without warnings/bans/rename orders.

Deleted because I can’t read names!

That doesn’t seem to be the same person.

I wasn’t questioning your knowledge, I was voicing my surprise.

I had no idea comics got that dark.

Just to be clear, the “social contract” has not resulted in anything changing. The restrictions are the same as they always were.

There appears to be more activity then in the past, for a number of reasons. The ease of right-click reporting, the players fed up with online toxicity, the knowledge that the system works when utilized properly, and such.

Yep. I can’t read names apparently. Thank you. Post deleted.

I am not OP. I know the naming rules.

I was hoping it was related to the spawn comics character played by John Leguizamo. Hoping it was not meant, as it likely was, based on the pretty awful third definition being referenced.
