Veto'ing Real ID literally ruined the game

With what id? And would expecting copies of personally identifying information even be legal everywhere Blizzard operates?

The most toxicity Iā€™ve seen related to WoW has been on Facebook WoW groups where, everyone has a real life identifier.

As an aside, would this thread have got the same attention if instead of mentioning real id, battle tag had been mentioned?

While this is true, still doesnā€™t change the fact that everyone still deserve their own privacy.
If people been a jerk is your only problem then iā€™m sorry there are a bigger issue out there than this

Iā€™d rather not have randoms knowning my real name, as my name is fairly uncommon (thanks mom) and itā€™d make it beyond easy for someone to find me on say, facebook, and harass me there.
RealID is not the course of action if you want accountability.

I do agree philosophically but youā€™ll never get a consensus opinion simply because almost everyone likes to misbehave on the internet and get away with it.

This was prevalent in Classic where your toonā€™s reputation meant a lotā€“accountability means better behavior. But with cross realm grouping, name changes, faction changes, server changes, all of that accountability is gone. The cat is outta the bag.

This would be more effective if you posted on your main?

Forced real Id has no place in this game. What needs to happen is revert all the customer service/game moderator cuts bs and more strictly toss the obvious jackasses out if they act poorly like they used to.

With that said some people have no qualms against people atleast knowing their face (basically every streamer and youtube wow person who shows themselves) and more power to anyone who chooses to do so on a volunteer basis.

Edit: sorry meant to reply to the thread and not you in particular. My bad.

i shudder at the thought of any of you sweaty gamers trying to track me down irl because you didnt like what i did in a pug bg. horrible, horrible idea. imagine the incel nerds who would stalk anything with a femme voice? god makes my skin crawl.

thereā€™s a reason most of us prefer anonymity- we dont like you.

As a person who does not connect to social media. ( I have no facebook, twitter, tinder or any of that garbage) I fully disagree with the realID system. I like my privacy and will keep protecting it. As for ā€œaccountabilityā€, please. This is the internet and an online game. If people do stuff you donā€™t like, put em on the ignore list and move on. Grow some tougher skin. Anonymity only makes avoiding people easier. Which is better.

The mentality that comes with Social media stalking people is disgusting and weird.

I love how some people think everyone will be afraid to bant because they have their real name shown.

If anything I am more tame online because I do not have someone in front of me so I can not get feedback from their reactions. Which is required to really get in someoneā€™s head.

Having real identities attached to what people say and do has zero effect. Social interaction, politics, and general behavior have devolved dramatically with the spread of social media. Itā€™s a collective cesspool of toxicity, racism (from all races toward all races), sexism (all around), bigotry, hatred, identity politics, ageism, half-truths and mistruths, and more. The quality and nature of everything thatā€™s feeding and feeding off of social media has gone down with it.

I think OP just wants to have peopleā€™s names to openly harass their RL life because they said something about eyebrelfs.

This is true. With REAL ID there would be no misbehaving because the game probably would have ceased to exist. I wouldnā€™t be playing it for sure if all the wackos out there could find me in real life.

na, most would still be a jerkā€¦or go to a different medium instead of these forumsā€¦

I like it, social media it show what that person REALLY thinkā€¦i would rather know if one is an Expletiveā€¦to be truthful

No, it wouldnā€™t.

Facebook and Twitter and such are still toxic, without anonymity.

I find that those who seek social justice like a zealot are often the oneā€™s that get attacks focused on them.
Standing your ground when your attacked is a good thing, however poking this bear is just gonna get you eaten.

Right, you think people should be fired from their jobs by way of whatever slander you write when slighted because you got kicked from a dungeon group or someone told you you couldnā€™t join their mythic+ group. What a galaxybrained phenomenon. You know, I always wonder why people like you never just voluntarily take the first step and put all the information out of your own accord. You can set an example because ofc you are a morally outstanding citizen with nothing to worry about when it comes to your own behaviour online. So go for it, why wait for others to be forced into doing something you clearly think is a good idea.
