Veto'ing Real ID literally ruined the game

There is a reason for that. For all that some people should refrain from driving, it’s still not a good idea for them to die or get seriously injured.

i didn’t mean it in that way. I wasnt advocating for people to die if they did get into a crash. I was just trying to promote my idea of why a tree is better then a lamp in terms of cost.

Unless the tree is heavily genetically engineered, it will still need more maintenance than an ordinary lamp post.
Pruning, watering perhaps, maybe spraying for bugs…

wow i wish history taught us this, idk if the citizens of the usa could band together for such a cause. Some would be afraid to act as they dont want to risk being branded a terrorist, while some think its always the citizen at fault and never the police. Some would make it into a political thing democrats vs republicans. And not enough would act for the government to recognize it was in the wrong at the end.

Sadly the united states isn’t that united anymore and its going to do a lot more damage till something changes.

Edit to prevent double posting: Police brutality and corruption isn’t just in my state either, its all over the country. Being at its worst in the more over populated cities / states like California and New York.

Look, I’m just gonna say it.

I’ve seen people go to great lengths to find IRL Facebook accounts based on little details that people have given and leak personal information as well as the information of their relatives to others online because of the most petty online griefs
While this is NOT common (Though I’ve heard many tales about these events)
enabling a forced Real-ID like this would make leaking information far easier and could cause even greater issues.

I’d be down for making our BTAGs are front-and-center publicly available thing.

Real ID was idiotic though.

This is a bad idea. Battletag spam from unwanted people

Edit: Also some of us want to mark ourselves offline sometimes so this would… make that feature entirely null

I’m not allowed to, it’s against the TOS. Otherwise, I would gladly do it.

Most creepy gamers are cowards and would be too timid anyways. I’m not worried about either a 100lb or 400lb gamer showing up to my house with a machete. Plus, here in America, we also have the second amendment.

It just shows that a good portion of the people that were against it are probably in the categories that I described earlier, which makes sense. Most diehard PC gamers fall into those types of descriptions.

And I wouldn’t care because I’m not worried and wouldn’t lose any sleep over it. I know how to take care of situations like this, defend myself and I know my rights. Socials are not public record. They might be able to get my last four though.

sure ya would.

My guess is anyone who is demanding more information about people playing a video game on the internet has a very creepy motive.

Yeah. I mean, opening up our btag also has the downside that you can use it to easily track down ALL my friends.

I’ve had to specifically tell the launcher to NOT show the suggested friends list.

It’s scary how much information Blizzard willingly shares.

When they implemented the ‘connect via facebook’ I was able to see REAL NAMES of many people via the facebook connect option.

THAT is dangerous.

And its still an option. I went and clicked on suggested friends.

I saw two REAL names in that list.

And I don’t connect via Facebook!

EDIT: As an example, looking at suggested friends from A to D, I found like 20 real names listed. I only recognize THREE of them. If I DID connect via facebook I imagine it’d be FAR worse.

Lots of friends of mine, that I’ve met playing WoW, know my name and some of them are even friends with me on social media platforms. Obviously, details were exchanged on Discord, but you get the idea.

It’s to prevent the creepy motives.

Also, for those concerned with stalking, you can gladly look up 18 U.S. Code § 2261A

cause we know how well laws deter determined criminals… let me guess u think a restraining order works too?

The feature is already entirely null. Too many things break it beause it’s designed for BNET, not WoW.

nonsense. YOu can IGNORE other players. I know…I do it all the time.

dont need to look it up. i just need to know that ‘creepy’ players in a video game aint getting my personal information so I have to think about my own 2A rights.

its a game. Either play it or DONT. its YOUR choice. A choice that DOES NOT give you any right to MY personal information…END…OF…DISCUSSION.

yeah…you’d think that someone rambling on about their second amendment rights would already have the mindset that LAWS dont STOP criminals otherwise there wouldnt be any crime in the first place

On top of that but the burden of proof the state is required to have to convict someone for stalking is typically above the threshold for it to be pursued as a standalone in all but the sleepiest of jurisdictions. DA’s have dozens of people to railroad for drug charges there’s no money or point in bothering with stalking unless you have enough money to get a priority treatment, but then most people that rich just have their armed guards introduce the stalker to the ICU.

I find the situation complicated and fail to understand how humanity and civilization has gone as far as it did. Yes ya need proof cause how can you convict someone without it but on the other hand people do have a tendency of accusing you of something you didn’t do because they don’t like you or you look scary to them.

which is why we have a system of jurisprudence that states the accused are innocent until proven, beyond a reasonable doubt, they are guilty. It’s the best system you can have to protect the rights of the citizenry at large.

Celebrities, politicians, public figures, etc etc all have their names out there and you don’t hear them freaking out about it. Sure, there might be a case here and there, but it’s pretty rare per capita. Most weirdos that might get the urge to do something stalker’y probably also realize that jail/prison don’t sound like fun. You can’t spam arenas behind bars.

Crime is always going to exist. It’s a far lower per capita rate than it used to be, thanks to laws and civilization. If you’re concerned that some creepy stalker is going to shoot you, I know America has a pretty high rate of gun related deaths, but even still, it’s 12.21 per 100k people (4.46 from homicide 7.32 from suicide).

It hasnt stopped the courts failing the people though before. A woman accused a black man r/p/d her in her sleep because she was being r/p/d in her dream. And probably mostly out of racism the black man was sentenced to life in prison but got out after 20 years and was paid like 2 million dollars for due to him being unfairly imprisoned due to lack of proof.
