Using delves to shove folks into mythics

Retail ended up attracting people who aren’t interested in RPGs. That’s why anything outside of M+ is considered a “chore”

No, it’s anything outside of preferred way to play.

They put a battleground requirement as part of the legendary quest chain in Mists of Pandaria and that went over … well.

I think you’re just upset that delve gear doesn’t go as high as m+ does.

Except it makes complete sense why they wouldn’t: m+ beyond a certain points is significantly harder than delves. wow has always rewarded loot commensurate to challenge.

I do think that delves should have continued to give powerful loot past 8s.

And how many expansions ago was that? Way before goldenchild M+ came into the scene.

I think bliz just couldn’t make delves harder whilst catering to the audience they’d cultivated and making them fair / consistent between specs. So they chose to leave the unbalanced mess that is delves 9+ alone and purely for those who wanted to seek it out to challenge themselves.

I did attempt Delve 11 undying a while back, and it seems most delves don’t even seem possible to complete.

(Then again, I’m loathe to spec into CC so that has a factor) but even then.

Dying to white hits pretty much.

Pretty sure Brann is a factor, and relics too.

I mean I definitely think that’s a big one. You try pulling maybe 3 Rotcasters in FF that run is bricked

I did them all on my priest when I was about 628~ not comfy but doable. Tanks apparently can knock them out around 610.

Delves just conceptually kinda break down when you try to make them above a certain level of tuning. Which is a big reason I think why the rewards stop where they do.

Did have the feeling that it’s not outplaying the encounter, just die to scaling. Cause 5 mobs are connected in a pull somehow.

Yeah, plenty of old RPG buffs like me hate this ARPG trend.

I loved old SNES JRPGs that were either turn-based or ATB games, but around the late PS2 era and beyond, people started going “turn based is boring!” because that’s also about the time smartphones started coming out and people starting to get glued to those things, and studies show that those, along with social media, have a very bad impact on peoples’ attention spans.

And so games like WoW followed suit, they didn’t want people to engage with RPG mechanics because a lot of people couldn’t be bothered to.

It’s rather sad, but thankfully there’s been a few indie games still coming out in the old RPG style, along with Persona and Dragonquest.

I’ve got them down. Think I was 618-619 when I finished the last one. Got my no death on the second to last.

One of Minibosses got nerfed this had 4-6 adds with it

The minibosses aren’t that much of an issue cause you can reset and hope for better rng. (Did kill the double miniboss once.)

Nice thing about the miniboss pairs is that priest can still MC one.

Tala and Velo are probably the easiest ones to deal with. The spider rider is probably the most annoying one

Fade + levitate baby!

Also you can just kinda run past them if they spawn before the checkpoint, die, and rez after them.

Or in the case of one which spawned right at the end. I skipped the checkpoint, ran to the mob, kited it back, grabbed the checkpoint, ran all the way to the start of the delve, died respawned at the checkpoint, and ran into the boss room before the mob had the chance to run back.

The problem is that low keys are useless for people doing Delves. But high keys are inappropriate as a starting point. So the choices for people are to jump into content they have no business doing and may even hate (8+ keys), or to grind content that has no useful rewards, and that they also might hate (2-7 keys.)

The solution is that SOME amount of Gilded should be obtainable from Delves themselves without doing keys, even if it’s a tiny amount. Say from +9 Delves or higher. Then people will feel like they’re at least still progressing, and those who want to progress faster badly enough, will take the step of learning the Mythic track. And those who despise Mythics still have something meaningful to do when they log in.

I expect we’ll get gilded crests for solo content by the end of the expac, it just won’t be from delves because delves can’t be both well balanced and difficult enough to justify higher rewards without turning into something the community who plays them doesn’t want them to be.

Right now we can get a handful of Gilded from treasure maps, which are solo content as well. The problem is those are totally random; what I’m proposing is something more consistent, even if the amounts are tiny.

I think there’s a chance they’ll merge visions into delves down the road.

HV doesn’t seem evergreen going forward and Blizzard could be playing around with the idea of putting them in Delves. I think people aren’t giving them enough time to cook with this new mode and it’s only S1
