Updating Torghast this Week

You’re opinion doesn’t bother me but it’s the toxicity of your replies and attitude that this game doesn’t need. We’ll never make it with your wise responses like, ‘git gud’ or ‘l2p nub’ when unfortunately even Blizzard disagrees since Wars/Rogues were already buffed once.

I do find it ironic that you comment on an alt to hide your main, the only people who do that are those who really don’t know what they are talking about and want to be scummy to other people without someone finding out who they really are.

I’m all for repeatable content being easier.

If it was a one time thing like mage tower, sure, make it hard, but if i have to do it every week I want it to be not-a-pain-in-the-butt to do.

I don’t get it.

Sure, happy to see the changes, but after 16 years of this gig, I’m still baffled that the devs seem so…baffled…when it comes to how to manage this game. Two or three days ago, you made it a lot harder, only to turn around today and nerf the daylights out of it. Just…why is this so hard for you guys after all this time?

:woman_shrugging:

Thank you blizz for taking all players into consideration with this change! Now I don’t have to roll tank spec on my pally to just do Torg efficiently.

No, he’s just decided recently to go all in for Ion no matter what Blizz does. I mean, less than 10 days ago this was him:

But you can find a myriad of posts between then and pre-nerf where was he was praising the overtuning, and now he’s praising the tweaks to revert some of the overtuning.

Personally, I think he’s either Zaphod Beeblebrox in disguise and his heads are arguing with each other or there are two people with diametrically opposed positions (but exactly the same posting style) periodically taking control of the keyboard.

Well just streamrolled a layer 8. Thats so disappointing. Pulled half of floor 4 on my monk.

I think it was intended that people would be smart enough to realize that it’s too hard with their current gear level, and that the tiny bit of soul ash isn’t getting them their legendary any faster anyway and just decide to come back later when they have more gear.

Instead now we have something that can be easily completed with heroic dungeon and maybe some M0 gear. Truly another island expeditions rather than anything challenging. And it’s all because people can’t accept a new form of challenging content. Do you complain that you couldn’t complete a +15, or the mythic raid week one and so you miss out on that gear? No, but it’s the same concept. Some content is challenging for most people until they have more gear. It was previously true of Torghast, now we’re getting a weak version that won’t be fun anymore in a month because it’s not challenging. But hey at least people like you who can’t do more than heroic dungeons will be able to complete the highest floor.

Nice to see the tuning happening. My gut reaction is its not gonna be enough but at least its a start.

And after browsing this thread i cant resist some people thanking game devs for working during a pandemic. They sit at desks likely with a lot of working from home using ms teams or webex for conference calls between writing code…

The risks they take for their non essential luxury product!

Thank healthcare workers, law enforcement, truck drivers, service providers etc. If you are giving out special thanks due to the pandemic. The people out there in person doing work a modern society relies on to function.

The changes a few days ago were to even out the balance curve in the run. This way, you will die well before the final boss if you aren’t strong enough (all good roguelikes do this).

Next they want to reduce time each run takes, balance specs/classes better, and make more unique anima powers instead of just straight damage increase powers. This was all mentioned in Ion’s interview with polygon

Why can’t layer 6 be a game, and layer 8 be for people who want challenging content? Why does everything have to be easier because you don’t have the skill or don’t want to put in the effort to complete it? Next are you going to ask them to bring mythic raiding down to the difficulty of raid finder so you can do that too?

I guess the only downside is, I feel bad about those having to work around Christmas to fix this. But that’s what happens when you release around the Holidays.

That said, make no mistake - WoW’s strength and dominance has always been its accessibility. The elitist, Darksoulsian, “git gud” mindset has no place here. It never has, and it never will.

These changes are good, and while Torghast still has a long way to go to realize its full potential, don’t mistake this as a “not good enough” declaration. Rather, this is a “great, now keep going!” sentiment.

While I complain about glaring flaws, problems, and frankly inexcusible decisions and designs, I want WoW to succeed, I want SL to be as good as possible, and I have hope that changes can be made to iron out these issues. These changes prove that.

Yall forget to add frost dk anima powers? Kind of ridiculous that there is not a single one for FDK and literally everything you get is pretty useless unless youre unholy.

Yeah, let’s not listen to our playerbase. BRILLIANT.

Classic Blizz! Buff something on Tuesday and nerf it on Thursday…

:joy: :joy: :joy:

Sounds like a fun to me? What’s wrong with it?

Thank you Blizzard, for this!

They said they wanted to change the power curve so that you would die well before the last boss if you weren’t powerful enough. All good rougelikes do this.

These upcoming changes are to make it more fun, shorter, and more balanced across classes/specs.

These are good changes. There was definitely a problem with mobs being damage sponges.

The difficulty is ok, there’s particular mobs that make it an engaging/fun experience but there’s a large majority that are just fat damage sponges that take minutes to kill or there’s elite caster mobs in there that just spam certain AoE damage over and over that can only really be mitigated with excess interrupts like a prot pally.

Torghast is neat in its first iteration, but I think it’s lacking different emergent strategy loops or engaging challenges that have multiple solutions. It’s very much a slow slog through, carefully pulling damage sponge after damage sponge and hoping you get lucky enough anima lottery to be able to kill the end boss. That doesn’t really feel good to play, it’s just long and boring.

I usually just 2-man all the floors, never had a problem as a ret/prot pally plus a healer but I know that combination is obviously stronger than most. The fact is, you shouldn’t have to bring a tank spec that is basically designed to cheese torghast and a pocket healer just to reliably/smoothly clear it. And it shouldn’t take a whole hour.

Challenging/fun gameplay doesn’t mean it has to take forever to clear. Putting sponges in there is unfun, and having weirdly unbalanced mobs that can one shot you isn’t fun either.

I think adding more stuff to kick, or even more interesting terrain inside the dungeons that you have to creatively use to your advantage or disadvantage is the way to go.

Cool thanks blizzard!

yall should make a quartermaster vendor for that place that has a sweet dark themed Tabard. I’d push for it. Tabards are one of my favorite collector items.

Twisting Corridors is coming soon. Its meant to be the challenging Torghast experience that gives cosmetic rewards.
