They definitely knew it was an issue. They also thought they could just kinda force people into using the system the way they wanted.
Remember Lore coming to the forums and threatening that devs would make the azerite respec system even more expensive if people didn’t stop trying to redo their abilities so much? Man, he was in rare form after BfA launched.
I’m comparing with the BfA Collector’s Edition which was $99 up from $89 before that. And after all those price increases they have also been removing physical contents from the box.
Prices go up, that’s to be expected, but they have also been taking much away and the increase is pretty big this time around. But I can live with that, what I cannot live with is how much more it seems to be going to cost over here.
I think the cost is okay this year. But if it goes to like $140 next expansion and all it includes are the same exact things as this year… then I may start to get a tad bit frustrated. But as you said…
What a horrible horrible thing Blizzard chose to do. For anyone, like me, who initially bought any not top level edition, then upgraded higher at least once, who now knows about and wants to buy this physical collector edition, we will straight up lose the money spent on any upgrade(s). We only get credited for the first purchase and any money spent on other upgrades is not credited or applied toward this version.
Blizzard was about to get more money from me for upgrading again, now they won’t. What a stupid decision they made.
Yeah, this is such a crappy thing to do to your player base, What are you thinking Blizzard? The cost of each tier should count against the total cost of the top Tier edition. I.E. (simple math here) T1 is $10, T2 is $20, T3 is $30, and T4 is $40. If i bought T1 then bought T2, THEN bought T4 i should only pay $20. T1 to T2=$20, T4=$40. $20-$40 = $20
Nothing has been said, and I don’t expect the option of just buying the physical goods to be available since they never did it on past expansion CE’s. They want you to put more money down to get the upgrade with as little effort on their end. I learned my lesson with Legion when I bought the digital pre-order to gain early access to Demon Hunters. Was forced to take the “refund/paid difference” in Blizzard Bucks that sat on my account until BfA, because they didn’t want to refund my credit card at the time the difference. Now, I won’t buy the digital version ahead of time unless I know for a fact that they are not releasing a CE for that specific expansion. I’ve gotten CEs for every expansion since Burning Crusade… heck I got roped into BfA’s CE even though they dropped the mouse pad and art book for that crap paper weight, because I didn’t want to break the cycle and possibly have a hole in my collection. /shrug
Of course, if they keep raising the price $30 for the same type of stuff going forward, things may change.
This is funny because I got an email from the Blizzard Store telling me to complete my order since I had an item in my cart. I deleted it because I didn’t need it, but just went back and dug it out of my trash. Clicked on the link to open the store. Store says I have 1 item in the cart. Click the cart and it’s empty. Search for Shadowlands and only get T-Shirts. Click the CE link in the email, takes me to the page which reads Out of Stock. Not sure how I’m supposed to finish my transaction if the item in my cart is out of stock. heh.
