Unofficial Sethrak Discussion Thread šŸ

ahoy! I have been away from this game since 8.1.5 and I still doubt that sethrak will be playable butā€¦

any updates on them so far in 8.2 ?

None for most possible races, only Ankoan who are basically all Male Jinyu deepsea version (i did notice one of them has a female voice) and Gilgoblins apparently got a large update to the current goblin rigs and now have a full female update.

There are female Ankoan, Blizzard just didnā€™t bother with creating a separate model for them. One of the flight points is named after an Ankoan who fell in battle, and the nearby monument confirms it was a woman.
That aside, the seemingly-male-only model doesnā€™t look suitable for a PC race. The updated Gilgoblin model might make for a PC race, perhaps Blizz is planning for Gilgoblins/Mechagnomes?

Thereā€™s toys to be found in Nazjatar that turn the player into gilblins or ankoan, which suggests to me that neither is intended to become an allied race in the end. They may update the gilblin model to be more HD when they release the new goblin model in 8.2.5, but the real tell there would be whether or not itā€™s classified as a character model or creature model at that point.

For some reason, I have doubts that ankoan will be an allied race at all, though. Sethrak at least have a proven female design, even if the only character in-game to reflect use it is the Avatar of Sethraliss. Vessina in Hearthstone also shows us what features distinguish female sethrak.

Itā€™s possible they could make a new ankoan model that has both sexes distinguished, but I canā€™t imagine their fins would look great with most player armor options. Then again, awkward limbs wonā€™t stop junker gnomes, but at least the only concern sethrak really have is helmetsā€“a slot weā€™ve always been able to hide.

Which gives me more hope that if they do that and Vulpera, being a fan favourite get added, they might get paired with Sethrak

Thatā€™s upsettingā€¦ this isnā€™t the thread for it but iā€™ve been desiring to play Jinyu since I saw them in Pandaria, they are by definition one of the 1st Alliance ā€œAllied Racesā€, still thoughā€¦ not even any new lore tidbits about them?

The only new lore tidbits about Jinyu is what the Ankoan say about them, that their people left Pandaria long ago for the sea, and have become a different branch species. Ankoan are essentially Deep Sea Jinyu.

What confuses me is why Nazjatar has a lot of murlocs and not only deep sea murlocs.

Yea that part about Murlocs confused me alot too namely the Bloodfin who are beyond numerous (like seriously what tribe can hire a bodyguard for every single child?).

But there is also that Jaina mentions the Jinyu during the whole Nazjatar thing and that there is a Jinyu near Flynn Fairwind who has a faction symbol on a flag behind him (very important), theres also a more aggressive monk tribe of Jinyus on the Island Expeditions.

And Feinberg your not alone when i first saw those Koi fish folk (my only likable fish mind you) i wanted them as playable even if they just used the male night elf animations i didnā€™t care it matched so nicely, when i first saw the wording and description for Allied Races before we first saw the revealed ones i immediately thought ā€˜theyā€™re updating Hozen and Jinyu?ā€™ because they are by definition the first Allied Races who continue to stay allied to us afterwards (notably for Hozen) was shameful they werenā€™t used, just having two races from Pandaria enter the faction war alone means Pandaria neutrals are going to get involved again like the last time we started a war on there land and probably end up aggressive to us about it.
That and imagine the Jinyu patterns for there scales, you got several Kois worldwide for inspiration then you got plain colours such as Blue and Orange/White then you got the tempted option for Sha-Touched.

To be fair, the whole place is like 100 ft underwater. Itā€™s not that deep.

The term deep sea doesnt exactly mean deep sea. It more or less means far away from land. The deep is more of a distance from or into something rather than a depth. Like when you are deep into enemy territory.

I mean, deep sea murlocs have large, blind-looking eyes and angler fish like appendages which are pretty clearly meant to emulate fish from very deep parts of the ocean, so Iā€™m pretty sure Blizzard meant them to be from the deep sea, as in actual depth.

I think the problem is more or less the fact that Nazjatar isnt deep enough. It should be very close to the maelstrom on the side between that and Azshara. Nazjatar is pretty shallow for no reason despite being in deep sea in both senses of the term.

Very true. I suppose thatā€™s likely just limitations of the game engine. Putting even higher water walls would mean having to render that height, as well as all of the murky ocean features behind them. The lower parts of the zone certainly seem to be presented as being ā€œdeep oceanā€ with their glowing corals and so forth, despite not being that much lower than the rest of the zone.

Thereā€™s not much that Iā€™m aware of, but I havenā€™t gotten terribly far with the Ankoan yet so I may not have the full picture either. I really did like them when I first saw them, and the Alliance use their troops, so it seems a bit strange for an offshoot of jinyu to appear and then get cast aside just like the originals.

Playable or not, Iā€™d like to see jinyu at least appear again somewhere as part of the Alliance.

Iā€™m really hoping to see a continued story for the Sethrak sometime soon, hopefully in 8.2.5. Itā€™s be such a waste to see a neat race like that not make it in. We donā€™t have a reptilian race yet, and I know thereā€™s many including me who would roll a Sethrak. I do have some hope though, since they did say they were paying attention to what the community is talking about. I know itā€™s a longshot, but itā€™s a possibility until they flat out give us a no.

Not trying to jinx it, but Im pretty sure this is the only Megathread that hasnt been shut down yet. So thats a positive.

Give Sethrak or riot! :snake:

Thatā€™s not true at all o.o where are you getting that?

The others had issues and being shut down by the automated system and GMs (as rare as they are), seems Sethrak are one of the less ā€˜hatedā€™ of the race threads since alot of the blocking is hatetrain and troll divergings.

Usually if im online when its happening on here i tend to tell them to F off in a kind way and start there own thread elsewhere about it.
