No, but they are supposed to fulfill a fantasy, and for many people the Dracthyr physique fails at that.
This is something that a lot of people, including the devs did not get. Like I said earlier, Dragons are the some of the Toughest and Biggest creatures in Azeroth.
So for a lot of people, the Dragon themed race being smaller than the Tauren (the cow men) was unacceptable. Especially when Drakonids are a thing (who are definitely as big if not bigger than Tauren)
Which I could see when they made them as a “Caster Class” - but that restriction will be gone. So people are going to want their Dragon Warrior to be able to be bulky.
People mention Gnomes and Goblins, but those are completely different from the expectations of playing a dragon themed character.
Totally agree, while they may seem like small additions - they can significantly improve the design. If we are not going to get Drakonids - then add more options to Dracthyr
Yes, it fails at that because those peoples’ fantasy is not the same as Blizzard’s fantasy. Unfortunately, they’re the creators of the setting.
I hope they do come around to giving players more aesthetic freedom beyond transmog, but if you go at them saying it’s because “it doesn’t fit the fantasy” you’re gonna hit a brick wall.
They are the creators – but they are beholden to an audience on some level. At the end of the day, they are trying to sell the fantasy to the player.
But In order to make that sale they need to make what they are selling appealing to people.
So if they are telling the player “this race is for the player fantasy of playing a dragon” - Then it needs to be effective at that goal. And its an expectation that Blizzard created based on how they’ve depicted Dragons and Draconic races.
Based on a massive response from those who play the game and those who don’t, they do not satisfactorily meet that goal.
And telling players ”This is what we decided, if you don’t like it then tough” - Is not going to magically make it appealing to these people.
Never gonna happen because Blizzard knows exactly what guys will max out first. Starts with a B. Hangs down by the chest. You know where I’m going with this.
Beards. I want a dwarf with a beard so long that it drags the ground, but Blizzard is beard-blocking me.
That’s never what they said though, the drachtyr are an experiment by Neltharion and not really “dragons”. The fantasy they sold you was “this race is for the fantasy of playing a draconic humanoid” and it fits it perfectly. Making them able to be different clases is already Blizzard caving to their audience’s desire to play them as other classes.
Edit: For anyone curious - the developer team literally said:
“We knew in the dragon themed expansion, we wanted to let you play a Dragon.”
They used a Draconic humanoid to go about it, for size reasons, but this was the goal.

That is why the Evoker Class (Which the Dracthyr started as Race/Class combo exclusive) was entirely designed around using the abilities of the Dragons. They were restricted to humanoid form, but they really were aiming for a playable Dragon fantasy
I agree a more intimidating looks would be awesome, especially if Dracthyr Warriors are gonna be a thing. But, personally, I wish there were more color options. Give me darker secondary colors with lighter markings colors. An ebony Dracthyr with white markings looks sick in my head. But literally impossible in game. And I don’t get why, even in lore, this is a thing.
Are their still hardware restrictions that hard? Idk, but it’s the only argument I can think of.
If Transmog was so impossible for Dracthyr, then what is the point of a humanoid form?
If the Dracthyr form is very limited to character customization armor - and evoker is designed around dragon abilities- then why not just do a quadrupedal dragon form?
Now, at this point, it’s too late – and the silver lining is that they will have access to other classes
Maybe at some point in the future, they will give the Evoker class a unique option to go full dragon - though I would say that is a hard maybe
My hope is that the Drakonid will become playable during the Titan soul saga
I agree their heads are too narrow and thin. They also should get access to a jawline like Deathwing.
Let us be a gigachad Evoker
Also, am I the only one that thinks it’ll be weird seeing all these dracthyr running around who can’t hover or use their wings in combat in any way? It’ll be silly
