Unoffical Playable Sethrak Discussion Thread

However it does look like they used the Sethrak model for them.

Dragons are my second love so I am happy with the Dracthyr. I do STILL WANT MY SETHRAK AND THEY WILL ALWAYS BE MY FIRST LOVE.

And I will continue to advocate and strive for them. Sethrak are still one of WoW’s most unique races and I would think Blizzard is sleeping on a huge opportunity by not making them playable.

Hehe, I do admit I love dragons a lot. Probably as much as vampires. So the race looks cool, I just don’t like the race/class lock there. Also sad for no housing. But I’ve cheered up a bit since I saw the announcement. There’s a lot of really cool aesthetics I’m into, and yeah, those dragon forms do look really neat. I’ll definitely roll one and try things out.

As always, I still support Sethrak and want to see them playable.

Yeah, this also sort of disappointed me. I don’t see why they can’t open them up to a few more classes and just give them a Prismatic Spell as a racial depending on what class spec you pick.

Right, exactly. Fingers crossed for more options in the future, I guess.

It definitely seems they are listening and actually acting on more player feedback so here is hoping. For this, for playable Sethrak, playable Sanlayn, Saurok and more.

And player housing. My husband is HUGE into player housing and is constantly disappointed in WoW for them not implementing it. Most other MMOrpg’s have some sort of form of it.

I agree entirely. I just got a house for my FC (guild) in FFXIV and am absolutely hooked. Customizable player housing would likely get soooo many people to hop on. Especially due to housing NOT being instanced in FFXIV, meaning limited availability. Meanwhile, WoW has a chance to instance it. It’s too bad there’s zero signs of it in the foreseeable future.

Unrelated but I do have to say I love that the Dracthyr do the Charleston for their dance.

It does seem like Blizzard has been open to feedback and requests for awhile. As such, I still think it’s important to continue onward with support for races we want playable as best we can. It isn’t a guarantee, but you never know if someone there could be listening.

Not to mention that we’ve seen some requested races become playable. Dark Iron Dwarvess and Mag’har were requested since Cataclysm, usually mentioned with a sub race system, and we eventually saw them playable. People requested Nightborne a lot during Legion and became playable in BfA.

So it could take awhile if it would happen, but I do believe in at least showing support of some kind instead of silently hoping. Again, not a guarantee we’ll see all our dreams come true, but it’s still important to keep up the support in my opinion.

Exactly.

If we do voice support for the things we want in game we at the very least can say we tried.

Doing something about it is better than nothing. Even if it does not always yield the result we want.

I remain hopeful. For playable Sethrak and other requests.

As always, playable Sethrak please!

This.

I’m not quitting asking for Sethrak, furbolg, Saurok, ogres, San’layn, Dark Rangers, jinyu/Ankoan and many others just because we don’t have em yet.

I’m gonna let blizz know what I want to see.

It’s the least I can do.

Wowhead posted a brief interview with Tina Wang, Associate Art Director, regarding Dracthyr customization. Interesting to note is that the Dracthyr dragonkin form won’t really wear a lot of armor:

"Greg Burke: So regardless of how the new race looks, will we be able to play our mage-like abilities in and out of human and Draco form, or are we going to be permanently stuck in Draco form when we’re in combat?

Tina Wang: You are all going to be in Dracthyr form when you are in combat. Yes. But let me talk about the Dracthyr and their customizations. There is more customization than what you saw in the video. there’s actually so many ways that you can customize that Dracthyr. Even the shape of the face. You can have, like these snouts that can look more ancient, or more sleek, or like a more blunt.

You can even slightly change your torso to be like slightly more slender or slightly bulkier; and the armor that you wear is a type of armor that you will be able to customize at the Barbershop, too. So Dracthyr, I think they’ll also be able to wear shoulders, tabards, belts across their visage and Dracthyr form. While the visage form is able to wear all-armor."

Seemed like something of Sethrak interest, since it could be possible they wouldn’t wear many helmets if playable. This isn’t to say they can’t, as I think people have shown that it is very possible for Sethrak to wear head gear, but I felt it was something to note.

It does seem like the Dracthyr utilize the female Worgen skeleton as well, which can be a good thing since both the male and female Worgen skeletons could be used for playable Sethrak and Saurok. While not a guarantee we’d see either, I feel like the creation of the Dracthyr could open some doors in the future should we be lucky to see either or both as a playable race. You never know!

As others have said in here, I 100% think Sethrak are still entirely viable & on the table, given dragon-like things are quite different from snake men. Given we have about a thousand varieties of elves (not a complaint, given I’m an elf player & am asking for more elves), it’s reasonable to have a variety of reptiles. No to mention vulpera & worgen, you get the gist.

In fact, I’d say this increases the chance of playable Sethrak. Can’t wait to roll one

As I said before, we have four different flavors of elves that each are unique in their own way.

-When Night Elves were playable in Vanilla, it didn’t stop Blood Elves from becoming playable, the latter of which were vastly different from Night Elves.

-When Legion happened, Nightborne were heavily requested despite having Night and Blood Elves, and sure enough we got them playable in BfA. While they share some themes with Blood and Night Elves, they still have their own unique characteristics and culture.

-Even Void Elves are very unique despite being Blood Elves and are interesting enough to stand on their own.

I get that Elves are one of the most popular fantasy races ever, but we also see multiple of other races as well.

-Bronzebeard Dwarves are different than Dark Iron Dwarves in culture, aesthetics, and personality. Wildhammer Dwarves would be unique as well if they were fully playable (and no, I don’t count Bronzebeards LARPing as them with a few tattoos and such).

-Kul Tirans are Humans, but the playable variant of them look and act different than regular humans. They’re both humans in the grand scheme of things, but there is a noticeable difference.

I could go on, but I feel like it bears repeating some of these points. If we can have multiple of those races and have them all stand out, why would reptilian races be excluded? Especially since dragon, snake, and lizard races would all have their own differences in culture, personality, gameplay mechanics, and so on.

It’s why I still see both Sethrak and Saurok having chances of becoming playable and how Dracthyr, neat as they are, should not be treated as the definitive reptilian race, resulting in never adding other playable reptilian races. They all add in their own variety to a game that has lacked playable reptilian races until Dragonflight got announced and I’m sure they would garner some excitement if announced as playable.

As I said, I could go on in greater detail, but I think it’d be yet another potential thesis paper I could write. Regardless, I look forward to the Dracthyr and I still hope to see some more reptiles on that character creation screen! :snake: :crocodile: :turtle:

They were asked about sethrak in a french interview.
I’ll post the translation here.

Will we be able to play as Sethrak?

Patrick Dawson : “Allied races are a very important subject, many people come to see us even colleagues who ask us “can I play as a sethrak?” or murloc, or centaur etc. There are always ideas however when we add a race in WoW we want to be careful that there is a clear intention behind the decision. We will discuss this with the team, you never know what we will add, there is no clear plan for 10.0 we are really focusing on the Dracthyrs.

That’s interesting and a bit vague. I know it’s a translation but to me it feels like they could be working on the extra allied races but don’t want to announce it yet. Although that could be me half-glass fulling that quote.
