Unoffical Playable Saberon Discussion Thread

I’m curious.
I often see topics with people bemoaning the popularity of Blood Elves on the horde side (well, technically that’s the ONLY side they can be… but I sort of consider Void Elves the “poor man’s Blood Elf”).

And I was wondering if adding Saberon as a playable race would have some effect on the number of B.Elves around?

Speaking for myself, I know I’d almost immediately race-change most of my non-B.Elf toons to Saberon if they became available.
But I’m a cat person.
And I’ve dreamt of being able to play a Snow Leopard style Saberon ever since I first saw one in Warlords of Draenor.

I don’t think saberon would put a dent in the belf population. WoW’s version of “cat people” aren’t beautiful humans with cat ears. They’re monsters. Monster races in this game have the lowest population numbers.

The cow knows what she is talking about, no one plays cows.

Anyways just saying, Saberon would definitely be horde.

They would be the perfect worgen counterpart! I can imagine a super cool cinematic of a worgen and a saberon fighting. Blizzard please!

I don’t really see any race becoming playable that would put a dent on the amount of Blood Elf players…well, aside from the one race that shall not be named people want for the Alliance. Elves are very popular in general and it’s hard to compete with them.

That said, even if monster races aren’t big in player numbers, they’re still great to have to appeal to those who like those types of races. More playable race options are always good to entice players of different types, which makes for a more interesting MMORPG community IMO.

I can see Saberon being fairly popular, which I recall Vah Shir being popular in Everquest 1 and Khajiit also being popular in the Elder Scrolls series. Certainly not Elf numbers, but a decent amount would like them and the unique customization options they would bring. They would be unique enough to add some more flavor to that character creation screen, which is always good. Not to mention all the quest and storyline possibilities with the Botani and Wailing Caverns for a pre-expansion event too.

Saberon are a race that brings a lot to the table, whether people would make a Saberon character or not. Plenty of room on that character creation screen for them and other races people want to see! :lion:

And now, a lion making an announcement:

He is announcing that it is a new month and that we should give some in-game feedback for the races we want playable; especially for Saberon. The crowd there agrees with him! :lion:

With the beginning of each month, I make in-game suggestions for each race I want to see playable along with a mention of their respective megathreads on these forums. While it is far from a guarantee of seeing our dreams come true, I do think every little bit helps, and doing it monthly I feel is reasonable and not that intrusive or annoying.

If you’re interested in doing the same for races you want to see playable, I made a little guide on how to do so in-game here:

With a new expansion announcement likely coming up, it’s still a good time to show support for playable Saberon! :tiger:

I play mostly Blood Elves, so guilty as charged. I think their lore attracted me to them initially as well.

I’ve played my Worgen a bit, except I just can’t feel anything for the Alliance, and that makes questing difficult on my pups. I love THEM, just… not that they are Alliance (and I do understand WHY they are Alliance, and it’s totally logical… I just don’t like playing Alliance. I’ve played WoW since Vanilla and have always played Horde characters.)

For me, Saberon would be like my Worgen, except belonging to a faction that I feel something for. And besides, I’m a cat person!

So it looks like an old world (of Warcraft!) revamp or update is a possibility, though no timeframe on when it could occur:

An old world (of Warcraft!) revamp is pretty big for Saberon, seeing as we have yet to learn what they and the Botani have been up to since they came with us from the Mag’har Orc unlock scenario in BfA. Of course, this is assuming Blizzard remembers that little detail.

Both sections of the Barrens would be the biggest area to check out. Likely any surrounding areas would be good to check out as well. Most notably, the Wailing Cavern area is where I would expect there to be heavy Botani activity. I’m not really sure what area Saberon would likely have fled to, but I’m sure we’d find them somewhere. Hopefully friendly, of course.

Something to keep in mind is that while an old world (of Warcraft!) revamp/update is likely to happen at some point, there is no timeframe on when it could actually happen. But whenever it does happen, I’ll be sure to help report any findings that would be Saberon related. :lion:

when will these be added as a neutral or alliance character/race

Found a neat art piece on DeviantArt of a Lion Man, who I think is suppose to be a Khajiit from the Elder Scrolls series, looking at…well, I assume an elder scroll, given the title. It was created by Wolnir and uploaded to the website on June 3rd, 2017.

“The Elder Scroll” by Wolnir on DeviantArt

Sharing this to help imagine how a Saberon in a plate class could look. I imagine lions with manes would be a fairly popular customization choice for Saberon, so seeing examples really help to both imagine how they could look like and also inspire some ideas for playable Saberon design. :lion:

I’ll keep an eye out for more art pieces to share for playable Saberon idea inspiration! :tiger:

Haven’t really been playing WoW all that much, if at all in recent months. However, if they added Saberon as a playable race, and gave focus on a Botani v Saberon war, (even if it was only a single map questline) I’d definitely want to return and take the game seriously again.

Touching on the popularity of cat races in games, every MMO I’ve played with a cat race, be it a neko or otherwise, the cat races are always quite popular. My main MMO atm is ESO when I have the time to play, and I see numerous khajiit pretty much everywhere. They’re certainly a popular race, not as popular as the altmer but popular none the less. If Blizzard decides to make saberon, they’re bound to be a hit with certain groups, however if they also go into a deep dive of their culture and add more lore for them, then I believe their popularity would grow… Assuming that culture was interesting. I mentioned in the past what I would be interested in with that, so I’d like to hear other people’s opinion around what they’d think their culture would be? Also, a class idea I’d love to see would be a Saberon Shadowhunter. I’m a Sub Rogue main in PvP, but Shadowhunter sounds fun as hell to me.

The whole Botani invasion is something that hopefully will be addressed sooner than later, preferably with something a bit more than just a small questline or brief mention.

There is way too much story potential with the Botani and Saberon in the Barrens to just be ignored and forgotten. The Botani in general are a pretty big threat; moreso when you consider both them taking over Wailing Caverns and getting afflicted with the nightmarish power within as well as Ashenvale Forest being close by. All this right outside Orgrimmar’s doorstep.

It makes me wonder if we would see any of that if the old world (of Warcraft!) gets revamped eventually. However, given how much time it has been since Botani and Saberon arrived on Azeroth, you’d think there would start to be problems arising by now with the Botani left unchecked.

I think the whole Botani vs Saberon war idea should be essential to the Saberon storyline. Likely with the effects of Wailing Caverns on the Botani, it would become a one-sided battle really quickly. This leads to Saberon being open to assisting the Horde and putting aside their differences with the AU Mag’har Orcs while the Horde gains some help with beings who may have learned some tricks in fending off the Botani since we left AU Draenor. Saberon then get their new home in the Barrens afterwards while the Horde works things out diplomatically and offering membership for their help against the Botani and so they wouldn’t have to fight each other for territory and hunts in the area.

It’s why I’ll continue to harp on the whole Botani thing until something actually comes from it. I’m sure the Alliance would have something similar in their own area, maybe Botani in Elwynn Forest thanks to spores from that portal close to Stormwind if say Arakkoa arrive from AU Draenor somehow, unless they assist because of Ashenvale being potentially taken over should the Botani succeed.

Regardless, the longer we go without the Botani in check, the more scary it feels. And of course best case scenario is playable Saberon to come with it. Hopefully both of them aren’t forgotten and we’ll get some pretty epic questlines and such out of it.

It’s hard for me to really think of specifics of Saberon culture and how it could have evolved since we left WoD. I’m going to guess they would be hunter-gatherers still, but with a touch of enlightenment thanks to the storyline with Leorajah. Maybe they followed a wild god or loa as well to help explain how they’re able to be classes like Priests and Paladins, seeing as almost all classes are opening up to all races eventually.

There is plenty to work with, but I don’t know if I would be the best at thinking up Saberon culture. I’m sure there are ways to keep their identity from WoD while evolving them to a certain degree that is fitting for them as a playable race.

If not these Cat People then I want to see the Cat People from FF14 in general on the Alliance.

I’d like to see Tol’Vir as the cat people on the alliance, but that’s a different story.

So this has been reported a few days ago, but somen ews regarding Chris Metzen has popped up:

I honestly can’t say whether this increases chances of fleshing out Saberon lore and such. My understanding is that Metzen is pretty big on lore and world (of Warcraft!) building, so I don’t see it hindering Saberon at all.

Given how much potential the whole Saberon vs Botani in the Barrens thing is, especially when it comes to getting playable Saberon out of it, all we can really do is keep doing what we’re doing with an open mind. And keeping reminders of the Saberon and Botani that came with us from the Mag’har Orc unlock scenario is pretty important in that regard.

And who knows? Blizzard has been looking at feedback in general for awhile. Maybe we’ll get lucky and have ours considered! :lion:

Said in a few other place but I feel like this is only a good thing for races folk have been requesting.

Metzen knows the lore and he seems to be more interested in player feedback than not. If they go to do ARs again I feel like they’ll look into races being requested and consider their feasibility.
