Unoffical Playable Saberon Discussion Thread

Not interested in another worgen race when there could be much better done. Just my 2cents.

Hope they hear that one.

I need more character slots. Iā€™m willing to pay for it too.

Cool, but wouldnā€™t a race such as that make sense to be horde only? What would alliance get?

Since night elves count as part of the darkfallen I could see it as a payment to the horde for void elves being what they are now, but again what would alliance get?

Itā€™s a very good question.

If we take that rumor at face value, it mentions just one allied race. It would mean it would be a neutral race of some kind.

With Darkfallen, it works great for the Horde since it would give them playable Dark Rangers and Sanā€™layn. In a way, it could give Night Elf Dark Rangers to the Alliance, though I donā€™t know how unique theyā€™d be or how well received theyā€™d be on the Alliance side. I imagine they would need to be addressed in some fashion were Darkfallen to be playable. Honestly, it requires some more thinking in that regard. Certainly better than Lightforged/bound/redeemed Undead, in my own personal opinion.

Not really sure what else they would do. I mean, some of the allied races in BfA came out of nowhere and if they were replaced with any other race, wouldnā€™t change a whole lot. So who knows if it would be undead or Shadowlands related at all?

Itā€™s something weā€™ll have to see once Dragonflight preorders open up, assuming said rumors actually come true. Though if it were up to me, I know several races Iā€™d love to see on that character creation screen! :cut_of_meat::tiger2:

I think its likely this would be the AR if they really are only doing one.

As an alliance main, i do not think any form of undead race would be very receptive to alliance players, and giving the alliance any undead features would not be a welcome thing in some horde players as well.

The only way I can think this could go well is if another hero class comes with this allied race, then maybe it would be more receptive for balancing reasons. Other then that, I believe blizzard has more races that could work better for neutral races, such as any sl race for example.

But your right, we have to wait to more announcements regarding the next expac to know for sure on what is going on. I hope for the sake of both factions they do not make darkfallen a neutral race.

I agree as well. I canā€™t really say for certain but speculate. Anything is possible, assuming we actually do get at least one allied race forthcoming. Iā€™m hoping whatever get get, preferably more than just one, it is something people have been requesting for awhile.

On another note, a recent interview with Steve Danuser mentions weā€™ll be seeing how Azeroth is faring with prepatch events in 9.2.5:

"A lot has been happening in Azeroth while weā€™ve been absent in the Shadowlands. Are we going to see that story move ahead?

In Shadowlands Patch 9.2.5 weā€™ll see some things happening back in Azeroth and learn of some events that have transpired. Weā€™ll have pre-patch events where we find out whatā€™s going on in Stormwind and Orgrimmar, how the Horde has been faring with their new counsel, how the Alliance has been faring with Turalyon at the helm, and whatā€™s been different about that since then."

Part of me hopes weā€™d see the Barrens with what the Botani and Saberon are up to, since there is a lot of potential with it. Expectations tempered, but Iā€™ll report anything of interest I see. :cut_of_meat::tiger2:

Amazon US has a page for an Exploring Azeroth: Northrend book, currently scheduled to release October 18th, 2022. Wowpedia has a page for it as well:

This would be the third book in the series, and while Iā€™m personally hoping we see Exploring Azeroth: Pandaria (which could be the next book in the seres), Iā€™m wondering if we might see something on AU Draenor eventually. It isnā€™t really exploring Azeroth and AU Draenor is kindaā€¦deteriorating in a sense while being closed off to us, but it could be something we see in the series.

Thought I would mention the book in case we do eventually see a Draenor book someday. If such a book comes to be, Iā€™ll be sure to get it and look into Saberon info among other things to report. :cut_of_meat::tiger2:

would they be horde or alliance

I prefer em Horde these days butā€¦ I mean they could be worked into either.

what about neutral like pandas

Iā€™d be fine with Saberon being neutral if it meant actually getting playable Saberon. I feel that way with a lot of races, and with the way the faction ā€œwarā€ is getting treated, it wouldnā€™t surprise me to see more neutral races. Better them neutral and give players choices than never becoming playable, IMO.

As with any neutral race, Iā€™d always have at least one character of that race on the Horde, even if I felt theyā€™d fit better on Alliance. Itā€™s my preferred faction for various reasons. :cut_of_meat::tiger2:

As I said not my preferred but sure.

I play both sides so it wouldnā€™t greatly matter to me.

Though I hate having to pick a side on my ownā€¦

I thought I would toy with the idea of Saberon on the Horde and Botani on the Alliance for fun.

Iā€™ve stated before that I view Botani as an antagonistic race, given what all they did on Draenor. I still think there should be enemy Botani in the Barrens, as the potential with Wailing Caverns and questlines in general is pretty big, but it isnā€™t impossible to design them as a playable race. After all, Gilgoblins use to be one note enemy mooks before turning into something awesome with the Kelfin. Even the Mogu of all things got a clan, the Rajani, that wasnā€™t bad compared to all other Mogu clans. Not to mention some of the playable races use to be bad guys before getting revamped into something interesting. It isnā€™t out of the realm of impossibilities to see that with Botani.

This is all speculation, of course. Itā€™s hard to imagine the Botani being friendly enough to even help out at all, even with the one that can become a mission table follower in WoD. But, with an open mind, Iā€™ll think about that possibility for fun.

If we go with the scenario weā€™ve discussed of Botani taking over Wailing Caverns and getting affected, I assume there could be different tribes of Botani or just some of them got corrupted pretty badly thanks to the nightmare in Wailing Caverns. It turns out pretty bad for them, and they could be open to seeking out help.

In this case, I view them with the Alliance. Saberon I see being very distrustful of the Alliance because of the Lightforged Draenei, as well as forming more of a bond with the Horde in general after the Magā€™har make amends for hunting them, but with the Botani, I could see them having some use with helping the Night Elves, which is something Iā€™ve seen discussed by others before. They are homeless afterall, and with a bunch of forests and so on, I could see the Botani help heal the land and even do something to help with even growing a new Teldrassil of some sort in the meantime.

Doing it in this way gives a reason for the Alliance to get involved in the situation. If the corrupted Botani are unchecked, it could spread to Ashenvale and beyond, taking over what little land the Night Elves have. That way, Horde and Alliance can enjoy the scenario, questlines, and new Wailing Caverns dungeon.

Obviously, the specifics need to be worked out, but it is entirely possible to rework the Botani to be something not that evil. Itā€™s still hard to imagine it, mind you, and I do think Arakkoa would be a better pairing to Saberon in my own personal opinion, but I did want to talk some of the idea of them being playable possibly working out.

If it got us playable Saberon, Iā€™d be fine with playable Botani. I may think more of the scenario to see if I can flesh out any more ideas. :cut_of_meat::tiger2:

So it was recently announced that Mages, Priests, and Rogues will be available to all current playable races (aside from Dracthyr I assume) in an interview with Brian Holinka by MrGM:

Iā€™m curious if this might apply to future playable races in general. Saberon Rogues would be a given, but I could see Saberon Mages and Priests based on some of them that were enlightened, like Leorajh.

Class availability for future new races may still different on a case by case basis, but still something of interest to point out. :cut_of_meat::tiger2:

it would be cool to have these

Considering that Holinka stated that while at the same time (last we heard) Dracthyr are not even planned to be those classes, it seems safe to assume that future races will not necessarily have these classes  a very confusing state of affairs

The Dracthyr are a special circumstance, in that they can only be the Evoker class. Blizzard seems open to adding more classes to them in the future, though because of their design, I canā€™t say whether it would affect future playable races who would be able to be multiple classes. I certainly hope it isnā€™t a trend for new races to only be one class in the future.

As I said, I think future playable races would be on a case by case basis. However, it does seem like the three classes listed (Mage, Priest, Rogue) may very well be added as options to future playable races. Maybe not a guarantee, but it seems like the chances are much more likely. Seeing the current playable races being able to be Priests and Mages makes me think any race could become them.

Weā€™ll have to see what happens as time goes on whether it be comes a trend. We may see new race/class combos open up, which could cause further speculation. It also depends what happens with the Dracthyr in the future. I do think the more options the better. :cut_of_meat::tiger2:

Dracthyr are a new hero class more then they are a race. Itā€™s just a gimmick of their design.

Not a framework for how future races will function.

Edit: somehow my phone quoted the wrong textā€¦ Fixed thatā€¦ Lol

I just noticed we hit this megathreadā€™s 1 year anniversary! It was created on March 14th, 2021. A little bit late to mention it, but happy belated anniversary! :tiger:

Iā€™d say that weā€™re still going strong with playable Saberon support, and I donā€™t plan to stop anytime soon. Iā€™m hoping weā€™ll see them on that character creation screen somewhere someday!

Iā€™ll try and keep the anniversary date in mind so I can actually celebrate it on time next year. But in the mean time, Iā€™ll continue to support playable Saberon as best as I can! :cut_of_meat::tiger2:
