Unoffical Playable Saberon Discussion Thread

I’d love that. Saberon would love Mulgore with it’s plains and bountiful game. I could see them establishing prides/tribes and befriending the tauren.

I agree that would be a wonderful scenario for them.

I want to see the kitty and moo moo friendship. It’d be super cute. Beastmen need to stick together.

I would undeniably play a werekitty in a heartbeat

Yes! Werekitties! I hope they go to the Horde. The Alliance has werepuppies, so the Horde should get werekitties. But really, as long as they happen I don’t really care.

The only issue I have with Saberon on the Horde is that the AU Laughing Skull Clan, who is part of the Horde now, hunted them for their hearts during WoD:

I’m sure something could be written to get around that to make them Horde, but it’s a pretty serious thing to have your race be hunted for body part reagents for a long period of time, IMO. It’s not really something I feel like can be ignored completely. It doesn’t mean they can’t be Horde. It’s just something I feel like needs to be addressed and worked out if they were to join the Horde is all.

It’s one reason I lean them more towards Alliance among other reasons, but I’m totally fine with them as a Horde race. I’d just like to see them playable in general to be completely honest. I’ll happily make a couple Saberon characters regardless of faction.

I can imagine hunting contests between Tauren, Saberon, and Saurok in such a situation. Three races with hunting as part of their culture in some fashion would be cool to see doing huge hunting events. Not to mention a huge BBQ afterwards that the Horde would enjoy in general! :cut_of_meat::tiger2:

I can’t believe I forgot about this.

Well look what I managed to get! :tiger:

Since Saberon mobs don’t seem to be pickpocketable in general for Glyph of Disguise purposes, I went on a quest to get this toy that I’ve linked before:

You need the Smuggler’s Den in the Spires of Arak (WoD). You then need to use your garrison zone ability to summon a smuggler vendor, who has a random assortment of merchandise for sale each time you summon them. It took me 5 tries to get the toy to be sold, though your mileage/luck may vary. There is a 10 minute cooldown of the skill before you can resummon the vendor as well, so maybe load up some YouTube videos or something if you go to attempt this.

If you haven’t done any questing in Spires of Arak, there is a guide within the comments there that explains how to get it, and although it is Alliance focused, it’s more or less the same process. You just eventually look for a Horde NPC instead of the Alliance one listed there. It really didn’t take too long to get to where you could make the Smuggler’s Den.

I recommend doing this on an alt if you have a Brewery instead of the Smuggler’s Den, as I think it costs 5,000 gold to change it. Of course, if you have all the rewards from one, you can always switch to get the rewards from another.

As for the model itself, I think that model you see there is the only one, as opposed to being a random Saberon with multiple fur pattern options. It has some animations, but it lacking in several of them. There is no dance, the model can’t ride mounts, and despite using the Worgen model, I believe Running Wild does not work with it either. I’ll have to play around with it to see what animations it has.

Speaking of, now that I have this toy, I plan to take some screenshots in the near future. Likely, I’ll do both Horde and Alliance areas, since you could make an argument for them joining either faction. I’ll have to think of what all to do in that regard when inspiration strikes!

If anyone has any questions on how to get this toy, feel free to post it here. I’ll try to help as best as I can. Hopefully someday, we’ll be able to have real Saberon characters someday! :cut_of_meat::tiger2:

Yeah, I earned the toy quite awhile ago. It could use some better texture and more animation, but I doubt they’ll do anything unless they make Saberon playable.

Wanted to mention that with a new month, I’ve done a new round of sending in-game feedback of races I want playable, along with referring to their respective megathreads. Saberon and this megathread are among those requests! :tiger:

I think the most likely scenario for playable Saberon models is that they would have new models built from the ground up. Female models would need to be created from scratch (as well as the ability for Saberon to scratch in general :stuck_out_tongue: ) and I assume building them from the ground up would make it easier when you have customization options, transmogs, and the like in mind in the beginning. They could still be attached to another race skeleton, like how some of the allied races were designed, with.

I’m assuming this is easier in the long run than just editing the NPC model for male Saberon into a playable one, which wasn’t designed for deep customization options and the like. I know at some point, Blizzard designed NPC models as PC models to be able to give them armor and such easier, but I don’t know when that was and whether Saberon were included at that time.

At least with the toy, I have something to take screenshots with, which I’m very happy to have. I don’t really expect it to change from using a NPC Saberon model even with playable Saberon, but then again, the best case scenario is getting playable Saberon in general! :cut_of_meat::tiger2:

This would probably be best in all honesty. The Saberon NPC models are pretty low quality if you really take the time to examine them. They’re definitely not designed to wear armor or to be customizable like modern NPCs. If Saberon become a thing, they’re probably use the worgen skeleton which still has noticeable issues.

Since we discussed Saberon and speed related skills a few posts ago, I figure I’d make a post looking at Cheetahs for Saberon idea inspiration.

First, some general facts about them:

And a video focusing on the speed of Cheetah in general:

Speed is the general feature of Cheetah to focus on for Saberon. Since both Druid cats and Hunter cat pets have dash related skills, I’m wondering if that could work as a racial for them. I know Worgen have Dark Flight, which increases run speed by 40%, so it is a possibility for a racial.

I suppose a way to make it different could be to make it slightly faster. Saberon strike me as speedy, and it seems like a fitting skill for a race that is use to hunting in places like the jungles of Draenor. I do think within reason, it’s fine for races to have similar racials if it makes sense. For example, if a race can breathe underwater as a racial, it shouldn’t mean that other races couldn’t be able to do that if it makes sense for them. Undead not needing to breathe underwater shouldn’t mean that Kelfin or Jinyu/Ankoan wouldn’t be able to breathe underwater too, for example.

Of course, there are plenty of other neat ideas you can give for racials. It’s just something I’m offering as a potential idea. There are plenty of things you can think of for a Catmen race. :tiger:

Also, the other thing to get from Cheetahs would be the fur pattern. There are all kinds of neat fur patterns off RL wild cats that would look really well on Saberon, as well as having a lot of potential customization options in general.

I’ll continue to occasionally look at various feline animals in RL for more Saberon idea inspiration in the future! :cut_of_meat::tiger2:

Cheetahs are one of my favorite big cats. Somewhere above, I suggested multiple fur patterns based on wild cats.

EDIT: I think I suggested the fur patterns on another thread. Don’t know if I can find the post.

Some official patterns.
I really miss this Druid talent.

This is just a cat worgan. I would rather play as an ogre. They are funny, already have a dance and voice lines. Though enough with the new races. How about a new magic class. All the new classes have been melee.

Saberon becoming a thing doesn’t preclude Ogres from happening. It’s not a competition of who gets who.

Skyrim and ESO have kitties! No more kitties!

There’s never enough kitties, I won’t stand for such blasphemy.

You know, thinking about it, Everquest Next was going to have a Catman race. I don’t remember if it was going to be a Vah Shir or Kerran, but that was one of the characters they showed. A shame it got canceled some time ago.

If you want to see some gameplay of it, including the Catman, you can see it here:

That roar it does around the 1:05 mark is something I’d like to see Saberon players do, whether it’s an idle animation or part of their racials. :cut_of_meat::tiger2:

With regards to fur pattern customization ideas, I wanted to share a link to Petopia’s list of all the tamable cat mobs in retail to show off the different fur patterns that cat mobs in-game have:

I’d expect Saberon to mostly have fur patterns based on RL wild cats, but I figure having a place to see what all is in game to begin with would be helpful. Lots of potential fur pattern customization options, as you can see! :cut_of_meat::tiger2:
