Here’s hoping we hear of a whole mess of new ARs come 10.0 and that Ethereals are a part of that.

All right I’m gonna try to be positive instead of wallowing in bleh with whats going on with Blizzard Activision of late.
Anyone have any story concepts ready or in the works for their Ethereals?
I’m thinking (Assuming many things) that mine would be one of the Void Ethereals and a Shadow Priest…
I already have a few Shadow Priests… but I like them and I’m an altoholic so…
Thinking they were exiled and drawn to (I assume) the Alliance because of the Void Elves and that interested them. Found out Locus-Walker was around and decided to stick around to see what was up.
Because if he was involved it must be interesting at least.
Not a lot but its what I got right now. trying to keep it vague until we have more on their culture.

Mine would be a standard ethereal, most likely a rogue.
I’d likely make him an enchanted and jewelcrafter, and he’d most likely be a merchant, collector, enchanter, alchemist, engineer, and thief.
Id likely write a short story about him, akin to the style of the Exploring books but from his perspective as he explores Outlands.
He’d join an organization seeking to use science and magic jointly in an effort to uncover the secrets of the cosmos. Eventually learning about the Brokers and discovering a shared heritage. His research would allow K’aresh reclamation to accelerate.

I estimate that we’ll hear about 10.0 in January or February.
Here’s hoping that it’s Arcane related for the best chance at playable Ethereals.
Alternatively, I could see a Void related expansion also providing that path.

I could still see an option where they show up in an expansion focused on Azeroth. They could join us as part of the beginning seeds of an arcane or void based expansion.
During a gap bridging expansion I mean.

Sorry for double post but wanted to talk a moment about this picture…
I really like it because it shows us something more akin to our world but for the Ethereals.
Whenever we find Ethereals it’s always with their otherworldly tech and generally nothing to denote them as more than mobs…
An ethereal riding upon a camel like creature obviously of a nature from their own world.
Of course that’s discounting the background of the picture that looks to be someplace on Azeroth with the skeleton in the back…
But still.
It’s nice to see an ethereal using something from their world.

Been awhile since I posted here so I thought I would again.
I’d still like to see the Ethereals become a thing after all. Whether it’s core race or an allied race, they’ve a lot of potential.
It’s been mentioned here before that we could see them on their own world someday but I wonder if we’d actually see them as just part of a arcane realm based expansion where they’re breaking into the Arcanelands and we’re just running into them.
I’d also kinda imagine that only one (or two if neutral) trade princes would actually join. Kinda like how it’s just the bilgewater cartel is just one goblin group.
Eh just some thoughts since no one has posted in awhile.

Not sure if this has been discussed before, but I wanted to bring it up to see if anyone has more information on the Ehtereals that work with the Horde and Alliance in their portal rooms.
In the Horde portal room in Orgrimmar, there is an Orc NPC, named “Thrallmar Mage,” you talk to in front of the Shattrath portal that mentions Ethereal allies. I think the Alliance has some Ethereals in the portal room also, though I could not find a NPC that specifically mentions Ethereal allies unless I’ve missed them.
I wanted to ask if anyone knew anything more about these Ethereals.
I don’t know if this is just one group of Ethereals that work with both factions or if it is two different groups, but I assume in either case, it might just be an agreement to help operate the portal area. Or at least help keep some of the portals.
The text when you speak to the Thrallmar Mage is as followers:
“If you’re looking to return to Outland, our allies amongst the ethereals have opened a portal to Shattrah City in Terokkar Forest.”
It’s likely this is just flavor text. However, it seems like odd wording to use allies for business partners.
According to Wowpedia, it says that they’re Consortium members hired by the factions:
“Consortium Arcanists have been hired by the Horde and Alliance to maintain portals to Shattrath City. They can be found within Orgrimmar and Stormwind’s new portal nexuses, located within the Gates of Orgrimmar and Mage Quarter, respectively.”
Yet that Orc NPC specifically mentions Ethereal “allies.” Not business partners. Seems rather odd.
Anyway, likely not much would come of this, but I wanted to know if anyone knew anything more. It’s interesting to see Ethereals referred to as allies, though as I said, I could just be reading more into it than I should be.

The Consortium is a bunch of smugglers and traders and thieves who aid another group of Ethereals called the Protectorate who stand against the Etherium who seek vengeance against Dimensius.
I’d guess that while the Orc there is saying “allies” the Consortium would see it more as a trade deal. Perhaps its a matter of the benefit of the Alliance and Horde being able to trade with the Consortium?
The portal keepers in SW are the same as the ones in Org for Shattrath far as I can tell. We also have a portal guy like the orc but hes at the base of the portal room tower. Or well… more the antechamber before you step through the portal to the portal room… god thats confusing.
Seems like he still offers a portal for most of my toons to the dark portal… but I know they’re supposed to tell you to head up to the portal room at some point… not sure whats up there.

I think I found the NPC you mentioned that functions as the Alliance version of the Thrallmar Mage, the “Honor Hold Mage.”
Oddly, all he says to me is “Greetings -insert name here-” with the option to teleport to the Dark Portal that the Thrallmar Mage has. He doesn’t mention Ethereal allies at all…or Ethereals period. Maybe this is because he is farther away from the portal to Shattrah in Stormwind.
Still interesting to note, regardless.

Yeah I tried on all my characters that were at different points in the story… Seems they just still have the option for some reason?
My Horde toons don’t.

Here’s a thread I’m just now learning exists.
Playable Ethereals would be cool. Aside from Arakkoa, they were always my favorite non-playable race back in TBC.

Ethereals are a race I have seen requested since I first started playing WoW shortly after BC. I know they’d still be popular if they were to become playable in the near future.
I’d happily roll one up, myself, though I don’t know what class I’d have them be. It’s something I’d have to think about.

Mine would definitely be either a Warlock or Mage. The spellcaster fantasy fits them best imo.
Edit: Also, could we please get the Ethereal armor set that you can buy off of the TCG pet become transmoggable? I always thought it looked so cool, and was sad to find out that you can’t mog it because it’s white quality.
