…something’s wrong. I hate the new Torghast scoring system. Unlike the old visions of orgrimmar/stormwind, receiving a score of 3/5 stars at the end of a run, even if I’m running wing 9 for the first time feels really bad.
During the Visions of Orgrimmar/Stormwind, I knew that I wasn’t yet strong enough to advance to the more dangerous areas, with higher sanity loss, but it didn’t feel bad.
Getting a 3/5 score on a Torghast 9th floor feels horrible to me. I think the added knowledge that “You cannot advance to floor 10 without a 4/5” makes me feel like I failed.
That. sucks.
I’m writing this because I think you’ve made a mistake in executing this content. Though it aught to feel the same as doing the Visions of Org/SW, it doesn’t.
I don’t want to feel defeated after trying content, especially knowing that I have to go back and re-do it.
Can’t argue that it feels bad not to be able to progress to the next floor, but the scoring system is fine once you understand how to play the game. Unfortunately, Blizzard thought it would be fun for players to discover how to play the game rather than explain the scoring system with an in-game sign in the Torghast lobby.
You need to go to Wowhead and look up how to earn points to achieve 4-star/160 points and unlock the next layer. Once you’ve unlocked the next layer, you can completely ignore the score as that’s all it’s good for (unless you’re into self-challenge or e-peening to others).
There are also examples of people showing that you can ignore the timer element of the overall score and still get 4 or 5 star runs. You can either go fast and get a good timer score OR you can ignore the timer and focus on bonus objectives (or do a blend of both).
You can either learn from this and do better next time, or write it off as “bad design” and feel bad about it. Might I ask how you went about clearing the floors? Speed or completionist?
FC or Mort? FC is much easier, Mort can be problematic with all the packs and the ground voids that kill you.
I did completion runs as a prot paladin (my main spec).
Honestly, I thought that the scoring system should have been obvious. I didn’t expect to clear everything and only get 3/5. I did get 4/5 in one of the 4 wings, but I forget which.
While I appreciate the gentleman who showed me a guide on how to get the 4 and 5 star levels, it is frustrating that I have to go off-game to figure that out, as their rules seem to be totally arbitrary.
