Twitch: Why is Minecraft the most watched?

Indeed, I knew someone who dismissed it as a kids game and it annoyed me, because I only ever played it on my own private server with adult friends - I never let kids on it because it was a server for me and my friends and we didn’t want some young kid destroying stuff. We modded it heavily as well, up to 40mods without crashing or issues…was crazy.

Kids, 100%. I don’t find the appeal in watching grown adults play minecraft. I can only play MC by playing with my friends and thats for like an hour minimum.

Im surprised its not twitches soft p0r# channel thats the most watched.

I don’t really watch game streaming, but there was a guy who went by the name Coestar who uploaded videos of himself playing Minecraft to Youtube back when the game was still a fairly new thing (pre-Microsoft purchase and pre-Twitch).

I used to watch them from time to time because they were very lowkey and relaxing, and it was fun to see a non-expert sort of fumble his way through the game as he slowly figured it out (vs. most streamers today who are probably very skilled at their games).

What, you never had to take turns with the console or something?

Watching another person play the game has been something forever

Also nobody has actually explained the point. Minecraft has always done well (cause it’s a popular game that translates well into streaming).

But right now it’s getting a huge boost in views cause of what happened to GTAV on Twitch. Roleplay servers. Specifically Roleplay Servers for Spanish speaking players, which has catapulted some streamers to consistently insane numbers.

the “why would i watch when i could be playing” stance kinda reveals a lack of monitors

i’m always looking for streams/youtube videos to put somewhere on the side while im gaming.

This is what I’ve noticed. The game could be dead last among all the choices, but along comes a charismatic or attractive person and suddenly the viewership puts them at the top.

My kids love Minecraft but they also like a particular streamer. I’m not going to mention names but she has an ooey gooey sweet voice.

She’s like the female version of the guy who did the excavator song.

I find it really obnoxious but they love it. It’s to the point where they almost have like a hero worship thing going on.

I guess back in my day, it was Walter Cronkite… Today’s crowd looks toward bubblegum pink polka dot kitty cat streamer.

Tomorrow, it will be t2000 Terminator skynet dressed as flying spaghetti monster

Because a ton of Gen Z kids grew up playing Minecraft and watching Minecraft streamers, so the have a huge built-in audience.

One monitor peasants.

It’s a game that many kids play. And the low barrier to entry makes it the most appealing to kids. Probably some of there first games they try now.

Twitch is something like TV for the younger generation and kids. It’s free, it’s available all the time and it’s about a game most of them like to play.
I work at after-school care in elementary school and all the boys, plus some of the girls, in 4th grade (ca. 10 years old) play some Minecraft or just watch streams on their tablet. None of them watch TV anymore.

You are not the target audience.

I think it’s because Minecraft is a simple yet fun game. Something that attracts the likes of children and adults who still like childish things

  1. its free to play
  2. it can be ran on just about anything
    thats about it

Obvious because it’s watched by a bunch of squares.
Du dun cha!

I’ll see myself out!

1: You could be sick and not in the mood to play
2: Game could be more story driven and you wanna see how other people handle the choices
3: Its the same as sports fans watching sports instead of playing it themselves

If you mean stuff like “Hey we’re making this look like a ps1 game on purpose” that’s a few things too

1: Nostalgia
2: Way easier to make which is why there’s folks that make horror games in that particular style relatively quickly

I just play games in windowed mode if I wanna watch / listen to youtube. My desk is too small for multiple monitors lol. I’m not even sure I’d like dual monitors. Just too used to one.

I also just play on my switch too if I wanna have something on the computer too

for basically the same reason that chess is watched by lots of people: it’s incredibly popular all over the world, even if you and your friends don’t play it
