The joys of phasing
Iâm not talking about phasing though, that is a separate issue. Iâm talking about the invisible timer on the node that lets multiple people harvest it before it disappears.
So youâd rather not see any nodes at all? I wouldnât; I much prefer the occasional disappearing node over fighting to tap it first.
Nah, it kills the fun of gathering for me to see a good node, run up and start harvesting, then it just disappears. Before, if you saw no one around you knew youâd be able to loot it. Now, itâs like disappointment at random.
The change was only made because of multiboxers, which they have tackled in another way, making the change pointless and punishing.
At the very least, there should be a clock icon above the node indicating that is has been looted and how close it is to disappearing. Anything else is disappointing and immersion-breaking.
Yes, single tap nodes can die a total death as far as Im concerned. I remember in MoP how capped players would swoop in on their flying mounts and grab nodes while I was trying to level up a toon and its professions. It was extremely depressing and multi-taps was one of the better quality of life additions.
I donât care why it was introduced or the minor annoyance of them vanishing. At least thats just a weird technical thing, not someone flying in to grab it just as Im about to.
Its note worthy that the brez has been available since Vanilla and the AH since at least Wrath.
It really does feel like this team does not understand what people enjoy about professions or PVP.
I wish Ion and crew could stay in charge of Raid, Mythic⊠and a co-captain or such, would be added for PVP, professions and the like.
Or when Iâm fighting my way through to be able to mine it, and once everythingâs attacking me, someone strolls up and harvests it. I really like it better that I can stealth up behind an alliance trying to reach a node, stab the mobs to death, and then we can both mine.
I think the only thing Iâve bothered crafting this expansion was the Engineering teleporter - because getting around the Shadowlands is butts.
Aside from thatâŠ? Most of the stuff you can craft, it seems like itâd be less effort (and probably cheaper!) to just buy it.
They also expect to you to somehow grind a ton of gold or buy wow tokens and sell them to afford the upgrades, sucks. For people who raid but donât farm goldâŠits a huge leap back from progression.
Funnily enough, for the first time in a long time Iâve found crafting useful in gearing up fresh alts to SL, since most of them had Heirloom gear right up to 50.
Other than that though, crafting has been dead for years. Sure, some stuff might be useful here or there but none of it essential.
For the next expansion, instead of investing time and money into a borrowed power system that will just get deprecated the next expansion after that, maybe Blizz could put that time and money to good use and revamp the professions system.
Professions is something, I think, could benefit from housing. It could bring a whole new avenue of things to craft and sell. Blacksmiths can double as carpenters, make fancy chairs, desks, beds, whatever. Tailors can make carpets, drapes, mannequins etc., Alchemists can make wall paints, dyes and more.
The sky is the limit with professions and housing. Any profession which main role is to make gear (leatherworking, tailoring, blacksmithing) has no use in game beyond providing enchanting mats. And it never will be relevant. If either of is able to make end-game ilevel pieces then there is no reason for people to keep grinding as much . Or so I think Blizzard sees it.
The most creative option added for crafting is the Relics. It allows crafters to make things set at various level on both new gear and a selection of older gear. I think its a good start but it doesnât go far enough. What should have happened is to create one Relic of the Past and allow the crafter to set the player level on the item themselves. So if you wanted to make a piece of gear for a level 24 character, then just set the level for 24. And once you set the level it tells you what mats you need to use.
So it was a good idea but it was not handled in the most optimal way.
Hugely benefit. In ESO for example, every profession contributes something for player housing, so every player (even if they themselves arenât interested in having a house) get to benefit from it.
Thing is, its very simple for me: if the developers canât create a truly innovactive, creative and fun player housing system, Iâd rather they not do it. I passionately want player housing but it would be heartbreaking for them to do it, and screw it up.
Garrisons are looking at you right now from that corner.
Everytime someone says Garrisons in regard to a player housing comment, somewhere a fairy dies.
Or possibly a Gnome.
I like crafting in MMOs as a concept/activity, but I rarely enjoy being part of the economy it creates.
Basic consequence of supply and demand is that professions canât be both popular and profitable. If the gameplay is widely enjoyed, you have too much supply. Conversely, if Iâm finding it profitable, it must mean not many other people who want the goods are actually participating in professions.
I enjoy light harvesting, but I will never be able to harvest as efficiently as a bot. Thus any open-ended grind will inevitably be scaled to a state where I simply donât enjoy it any more.
Every profession should gather materials for or craft a consumable that enchants your gear or give you a temporary buff.
Spell thread, belt buckles, gems slots baseline, shoulder enchants, etc etc
I feel that the mechanics of professions have dramatically improved since Legion. A lot of the issues we still have with them seem to stem from their new gearing philosophy with randomized stats and borrowed power grinds. I think a lot of systems were not adjusted to reflect that change like the way the PvP queue system works.
I believe Bizarre will use professions as a gold sink in a near futur , vendors selling mats =no more bots and more cash in Bobbyâs pocket
The only benefit iâve gotten from professions this entire xpac was a very few sales of entry level legendary vessel items & the achievements for leveling them all (which, for some masochistic reason I chase every time).
