It feels like they’re the direction they’re taking the game will eventually have you sitting in an Overwatch-style lobby waiting to run a dungeon or a raid.
Crafted gear is weird.
If it’s too good then it’s “forced” to get, especially if it’s BoP.
If it’s BoE then it gets blasted as Blizzard trying to force token sales and p2w gear.
If it’s not as good then it’s useless.
If perks exist and are equal players are “forced” to grind a profession.
If they aren’t equal they are “forced” to grind a profession they may not even want.
With no perks they don’t feel as meaningful.
Professional perks are stupid.
Best case scenario: They’re perfectly balanced and it doesn’t matter what profession you take. But you have to take one. And if they’re all equal…wow this is super exciting huh?
Worst case scenario: They’re not balanced, and there’s a right answer to “What profession should I be as a Warlock/Druid/Mage/Warrior/Etc”
It’s all around awful. Professions in this game have always been weak, and it’s always been something that could be improved. But professions should still be a choice of what to take or even to take at all. They should not be a mandatory box you have to sink gold/resources into just to get some bonus.
Advocate for an actual useful and interesting system. Not mandatory professions for everyone.
The whole game if we’re being honest.
If they really need ideas they need to look at the trades from back WotLK and earlier
Remember when:
- Alchemy had 3 options to allow for more potions, flasks, or transmutes to happen?
- Engineering had 2 options trinkets or booms (and the booms were actually worthwhile)
- LWing Smithing and Tailoring actually allowed you to craft gear that was competitive until at least mid raid level. and also had customization options based on stat desires. (remember the 3 different tailoring paths)
- First Aid everyone had in case they needed that bandage mid fight.
- Enchanting (as was previously mentioned) had bonuses that could be applied to all areas, not always combat bonuses but also run speed buffs on boots, and faster foraging on gloves.
It was far more entertaining and yes I would spend hours gathering in Ice Crown just to make some items or set.
To be honest, I think removal is probably more likely than a revamp. Much as it pains me to say that.
I’d say it’s more they don’t know what to do with professions.
If they’re too strong, then they become a requirement, so they wind up tuned to be boring and useless.
What are professions? Does WoW have them?
TBC is literally the peak of professions in terms of usability, They had some stuff that was interesting at the alpha of SL but it was cut.
And now people pick engineerin for the brez, and AH in Oribos - plus you get to turn off the oozes in DoS lol. I’d rather go back to having each profession provide 1 piece of raid quality gear, up to mythic. Engineering goggles were fun to work towards, and typically required you to accumulate mats to just unlock the ability to craft them - more work than just grinding dungeons for the vault.
So are you coming back to WoW on 29th June?
Boy, does your timing need work
Professions are already dead, the only ones worth doing are herbing and alchemy . I make more Gold in TBCc JC than SL JC
I hear ya mon, from the way these forums go I am sure a lot of folks are mourning professionally.
Given the devs hate of gearing yourself beyond the greys that drop from quests this expac, yes, they hate professions.
Was it Cata or MoP when we had things like Synapse Springs/tailor cloak enchants/Dragon’s eye JC gems/BS adding sockets, etc. That was a lot of fun, and made all the professions strong and worth putting time into, now I just stick engi on my alts for the portal and forget it, since none of the others have any value anyway.
Bring back smelting! Crafting metal things from unrefined rocks feels wrong on so many levels. Plus, the ore shuffle was free money.
Both of my professions are dead but I have super rare patterns so I don’t drop them.
It’s amazing that a game like ESO can have such an amazing crafting system and wow just digs a deeper hole for their every expansion.
Also, get rid of gathering nodes that disappear on you while you are in the middle of harvesting. I’d rather have 1 person per node like it used to be than this cruel tease of thinking you got a rare node only to have it disappear after two swings of the mining pick.
