I think WOW graphics are fine for the art style it has. They are certainly better than when the game first released. SWTOR has pretty good graphics as well. I don’t play FF14, but from the videos I’ve seen they don’t look horrible.
Maybe my perspective is different because I still remember pong and the Atari 2600. Now THOSE were bad graphics.
Oh, you mean the zoomers?
Cause anyone who likes lore and story (SL excluded of course lol) will like the story focus of FFXIV and ESO.
How to tell people you’re casual without saying it.
Also, that’s literally what FFXIV is like at endgame too. Even with weekly currency caps.
Hm… I’d say graphics are great there.
That’s most of appeal for me, graphics, cool armors, Golden Saucer, good story.
I don’t care much for raiding to begin with, so WoW loses out for me here.
Case in point.
You do not say: “Ugh, I do not have time for video games, I am too busy for them.”
It is always MMORPGs, and problem is, yes… many MMORPGs have been designed to feel like work, because what have ended up being important, is the /played metric - this is especially the case for World of Warcraft.
Many other MMORPGs are not designed to have you work on for hours to reach something you want, they are designed for you to actually have fun, to log in, do a little bit and then bounce off again whenever you got the time.
Final Fantasy do have shorter raids and dungeons than WoW, yes… but this is its strength and why it is on a growing path, rather than declining like WoW.
You CAN sink time into FFXIV, because it does not demand 8 hours a day of you in order to reach something.
And that is of course leaving out the many other activities you can engage with in FFXIV. It’s leveling alone is a huge part of its content, the main storline that you can go through at your own pace.
The whole excuse: “I do not have the time to put into a new MMORPG” and why the heck not? Why do you play MMORPGs? Because it is work to you? You MUST grind this out? Or to have fun?
MMORPGs are video games, video games are entertainment, of course you have time for another MMORPG, saying otherwise is just silly and extremely irrational.
im currently playing it rn highest level i got was lvl 16 but thats because i only play games on my days off if i have any.
the quests imo are almost similar to WoWs but to me slightly better in terms of actually telling a story where as with WoW it’s kinda just you do this and try to figure out wth happened especially older quests that got revamped because of cata. if you play say classic it makes more sense but if not then it doesn’t such as makriks wife. the new version just makes you go out and kill bunch of pig men doesn’t tell you that his wife died and how unlike in classic.
in ff14 i did a simple quest just like this made me go out kill some mobs collect rocks to fix his dads compass then dad turns on me at the end of the quest saying he wanted to quit fishing for good. this then led into another set of quest chains where he didn’t want to quit and made me go out collect some lures or something. and so forth.
the graphics imo are a lot better then wows but the styles are completely different where that can be a turn off to the individual. for me it’s not too much of a concern.
the biggest concern to me atm is the lack of classes i have access to up front. im currently playing a black mage it feels very weird tbh not knowing wth my rotation is despite i have 4 buttons and although it seemed straight forward after watching someone out dps me on a FATE even without damage meters i can tell because well 1v1 my mobs are dying slower then his. i then figured out what i did wrong rotation wise for now at least.
it’s a learning curve yes as with all new games.
i personally cannot stand reading the quests tbh i mean even in WoW i skip majority of them and get a jist of what it is about. in ff14 i can’t. i can’t really complain because even in wow i’ve begun to read the quests to learn more of the story. im a slow reader btw so yea it takes me longer just to play the game and do much.
the gcd not so bad but i can feel somewhat latency especially with instant casts as there is a delay unlike with wow if i pop an instant into a casted spell it goes smooth in ff14 there is a noticeable delay where i have to pop the instant cast, wait a second then start casting as it won’t smoothly register.
Yeah it’s basically WoW, but your character actually means something and the gear you grind and rewards are actually worth it and not just a bunch of turds being carried in Mythic 15’s by buying WoW tokens.
World of Warcraft must give you vertigo with its 2004 graphics, then.
17 classes in game. 18 if you count blue mage which is a limited job. Two more come out in next expansion.
Candy Crush isn’t a MMO and its the best game in its genre and the most popular.
Fornite is a Battle Royale game and yes its the best in its genre and attracts the most people.
WoW has the most in its genre and that makes it the best.
It can be said that WoW is neglecting its casual players and that there aren’t enough small things to do in the game and they only pander to their core content of raiding, dungeons crawling, and pvp and thats a big reason why people have left. But once we start judging things out of the numbers game then we enter the realm of pure speculation and personal bias.
My personal views and bias outside of the numbers showing that it is the top game is that WoWs the best dumpster fire out there. I’ve played other MMOs, sometimes for years, for the last 15 years and the road always ends at WoW. Those 3 core things WoW always panders to and builds up are the main reasons why anyone plays WoW so even though they neglect the small things their core is constantly improving, getting more competitive, and more difficult. WoWs entire gameplay is just so adaptable and timeless that it just keeps up with the times better then other games. WoW is the game everyone want to recreate but they can’t because WoW just keeps doing everything better all the time. A couple additional systems like player housing aren’t enough to dethrone WoW competitiveness, adaptability, and timeless look/feel. If that worked then Everquest 2 would still be a major competitor and we would have had Everquest Next but it turns out having a couple cute things like housing doesn’t suddenly make your game good. Thats a novelty and nothing else.
Think about it like this: Asmongold sets a date to stream FF14. FF14 randomly (because they literally havent done this before) decides to do a Twitch promotion to pump up viewer numbers for the brand. A FF14 dev comes into Asmon stream Day 1 to give away hundreds of subs.
You could easily claim he is being paid – too many things line up.
Hmm… not sure if the speak about dated graphics is a troll or not. I mean… look at WoW.
No it’s not… because when I had time I did sink it into WoW and I am not letting that go. I don’t have that amount of time anymore and I can’t play any MMO not even WoW like I used to.
I suspect that’s the same case for a lot of wow players in their mid 30’s and older
Its honestly a troll. I cant see it any other way to be honest.
ffxiv ARR was inspired by good wow.
thats why ffxiv is beating wow now at its own game.
Just as easy as you can wear a tinfoil hat.
Yes, it is extremely irrational.
What exactly do you expect to get out of the MMORPGs then?
Are you just jumping in, killing one or two mobs and then logging out again?
Are you actually managing to play the game at all?
The “No time” is hideously irrational, it does not make sense. The fact that students who no longer live with their parents, who study, have to do homework and have to work on the side to earn money to pay their bills, can still have time to play video games, even MMORPGs, is a little baffling. They may as well have a wife and kids.
I am sorry, but one really needs to get a better excuse than ‘no time’. I find no rationality in it, at all.
No interest is far more rational.
I honestly don’t get it. Why is there not enough time? What exactly do you expect to achieve each day?
People are going to find out that while FF14 is a fun and worthwhile game, it simply won’t hold them for years and years like WoW did.
Hoping all the current messes helps get the game back on track in 10.0.
Why won’t it?
