I couldn’t help but think to myself when watching that threads about them would pop up.
Gaming communities have a bad rep for a reason.

It was all over the livestream chat during the Talents and UI / HUD panel, and if you go to YouTube now, you can see other similar posts in the comment section for the video segment

OBVIOUSLY not everyone is like that, thankfully, but enough of them are that it’s become a serious problem

How when the comments were made on Youtube for one? They are not linked to your account.

Not even taking into account in the slightest that some of these people may not even be or no longer are in the community, because again anyone could watch.

Yeah trash exists, but when people carry on highlighting it, it solves nothing.

Wow community is at it again I see.

What is Blizzard supposed to do? It’s not their platform.

They didn’t say all players are transphobic. They said transphobia exists in the wow community. Which it does. Dismissing them as “just trolls” is pathetic handwaving. They should be called out as the bigots that they are.

No one talked about sexuality in the ENTIRE expansion reveal.

It was the transphobes that saw a SINGLE trans person out of about 20 people, and immediately starting using vomit emojis, and spamming “wokecraft”

YOU need to overcome your bigotry.
If you can’t handle a 1/20 people being trans, then maybe a social game like an MMORPG isn’t for you.

I’ve heard that the trans woman from the vid (I think she goes by Hamlette) is pretty brilliant and supposedly some type of programming whiz (idk if that’s true though because her title is game designer which I don’t think is a role that typically involves programming—might be getting her mixed up with someone else)

“that is a problem for YOU to overcome” is such a gross thing i had to read when referring to transphobia. is racism an issue people just have to overcome? no? then why is transphobia? we cant work towards removing just one phobic ideology, ALL of them should have no place in any media. phobic people need to keep it to themselves, not spread hate, and the victims OF that phobia shouldnt have to just “get over it.” they shouldnt have had to be at the expense of it to begin with.

I understand, being autistic I was made fun of my entire life for being me. I hope blizzard monitors those chats, they really need to watch those event chats!

also, sexuality and gender identity are two different things, so. there’s also THAT issue with your uneducated comment.

Yea it was pretty disgusting to see, a irl person should never be harassed online.

I don’t think you understand.

The issue has nothing to do with in-game characters or gameplay. The problem is that someone on the deep dive panel presented as gender fluid or trans and the Youtube and stream chats erupted in extremely hateful and vile comments about that person, and about Blizzard for having the person on staff and on camera. If you can imagine a vicious or terrible comment, someone said it. It happened to a lesser degree on the next segment where the chat questioned a presenter’s sexuality. To chat’s credit, there were people pushing back against the phobic ones for whom the existence of someone different tilts them.

That there is even a need to push back against the flood of vile comments against those individuals is pretty sad.

I have met the person most targeted. They are awesome and have worked for Blizzard for many years - not some recent token hire as some have wrongly claimed.

I don’t get it, does the existence of others who are different make some people so insure and upset their mouths just erupt in hateful comments?

Not everybody will accept certain individuals in the world. Welcome to real life. They don’t have to as it’s their choice. Calling them out will only hurt your feelings more and fuel the fire, aka keeping it going, which is what we don’t want.

IGNORE and move on IMHO for the best results.

Sigh, American politics has made people crazy. WoW tends to have a lot of bigoted players for some reason.
Trade chat on my server MG is nothing but people spewing political conspiracy theories and hate towards minority groups. It is crazy to see at times.
