Transphobia in the WoW community

I wouldn’t call their presentation today “diverse” inclusive sure but it was a bunch of people of the same ethnic background…. There’s no diversity in that… that’s what’s called inclusive

There is a fine line between not wanting trans characters in WoW and actually harassing a trans employee at blizzard, people are disgusting.

Can Blizzard just make good games already? Thanks.

I’ll admit, my initial reaction was to guffaw, but I’m an old man. Then, I checked myself and realized I wasn’t giving her a chance. This person is pretty brave to get up in front of a bunch of people and be herself. I’m not going to say I’m turning over a new leaf or anything, but I’ll never go out of my way to be rude to somebody trying to live a happy life that doesn’t hurt anyone else. Hell, for all I know, she might be the best dev sitting at that table. I dunno. If they put their heart into the game and work hard, they have my support.

Microaggressions simply do not register on the offense spectrum for most folks not actively targeted, but do have a measurable, detrimental effect on the wellbeing of those who are.

I personally see less active, egregious transphobia, homophobia, or misogyny in day to day play than I did, say, ten years ago. But it’s still present.

There is a reason people curate guilds and communities with zero-tolerance policies toward that sort of thing, and there’s a reason they are populous - and not just by marginalized groups, but by those sharing the commitment to promote a healthier game environment.

I did notice an effort in the reveal event and expansion deep dive to show us more of Blizzard than the same few white dudes. While it felt a bit stage-y, it was also necessary, given last year’s well-deserved negative publicity.

I’m not surprised this happened with this community.

Wow’s community is actually tame, mostly just whiny… should have heard a call of duty lobby in the late night, if this offends you… you’d be crying and possibly worse.

Anonymity of being online, not accepting of others, simply trolling, its a list of things. Yes it is sad but again it is their choice. It’s best to not fuel the fire as we’re all doing now.

I hope you don’t just mean “Check only people who are outside of the group whom we want to be inclusive to”?.. because there’s some pretty bigoted individuals who are part of that group that is constantly trying to incite hatred to either side as well.

That’s not to say the bigotry you’re thinking of doesn’t exist. They do exist. I just think were too quick to think that people who are allies are thought of never bigoted or their bigotry is justified… in this sort of “Eye for eye, tooth for tooth” sort of way when it’s against a majority population like Whites, Male or Heterosexuals, (And same goes for everybody else) when hatred only begets hatred.

I dislike bigotry of any sort.

…Let’s not conflate a few people flagging you with “the community”, because that implies 100% all of the people in that community to blame… and i’m pretty sure you would be making the problem worse.

And yes, the problem does exist. I don’t like bigotry of any sort towards anybody here. It’s never justified nor it should be.

However, going by the chat thing people seem to bought up… Exactly how YouTube can detect who is a WoW player and who isn’t? Heck somebody who isn’t, can just sub to Blizzard.

I agree that the people in that chat was disgusting, it is one thing to state dislike on a game feature, but to be full on treating a human like trash is not acceptable.

I’m more shocked that blizz did not turn off chat after that charade started.

the quelthalas kingdom community and the latin wow community forum troll me for being different and thinking differently and that’s not why I say that they are all there is a minority

Until people see how normal it is in 2022 and they get properly educated, it’s gonna continue. I used to receive comments irl very frequently in the beginning of transition and it was difficult, but I totally expected those. People are not always open-minded, they don’t understand and they feel like it’s okay to say harsh comments. Not everyone is a decent human being and properly educated.

They very well may. It is against the rules to re-post content the Mods remove.

your comment was extremely invalidating to the trans communitys daily experience. we too are also a target for many people, most of them physically violent crimes. in some places, we are executed for being our true selves. its unfortunate the area you live in is so terrible, but invalidating the trans community because you “have it worse” is pretty gross and that deserved to be removed

I blame religious indoctrination for this mindset. I will risk the ban to say this, but it definitely is factor imo.

Maybe more people need to read the Bible.

It’s not phobia to dislike something, think it’s weird, or acknowledge how fringe/bazaar something is.
