Transphobia in the WoW community

didn’t know that is what went down.

which should never happen but people are stupid…

an this is my way of looking at some things like this as you said

Everyone’s judgmental, just not about the same things.

Imagine being offended on the internet, just turn off chat lmao.

“NooooOOoOoOooo someone was being mean we need Draconian moderation enforcement all over the internet!!!” grow up as someone who has been on the internet since the mid 90’s this is NOTHING even close to how bad it used to be. You’re not going to change peoples minds any more than they will change yours on this subject.

Instead of going on a virtue signalling campaign, simply use the rules that the companies have set forth and report it and move on if you feel it’s breaking any rules.

Not being negative at all, but sexual preference, religion, etc. has about enough space to be in a videogame. As it does in a kindergarten class = which is zero!

Be who you are, love who you are and ignore the hatred that will always be, but for the love of god stop cramming it into everyones face…ESPECIALLY IN A FICTIONAL WORLD, which is used to “escape” the real world.

You mean the community called “humanity”, right? The WoW community is nothing special in terms of transphobia, no better, no worse than society at large

They should be glad they are on the western side. Plenty of eastern nations have zero tolerance.

Yeah exactly. I can be plenty hateful, but that is never because of someone’s race, gender, sexuality, religion, or whatever else. I respond to hatred with hatred, simple as, regardless of what the other person may be.

I hear you. The person can be literally anything and i can either like them for the things they say or do, or dislike them for the things they say or do.

I feel like you did not read the thread and may not be aware of what it is about.

This thread is not about in-game behavior. It is about how the chat community on Twitch/Youtube, and streams, spewed vile things including death wishes when a Dev who presents as gender fluid or trans was on the video talking about the talent tree work they did as a senior game systems designer.

Then the hate rolled in because apparently people are triggered by seeing someone like that. Not what they said, but just their appearance.

This is why we teach kids to be tolerant of others and not attack them. That is what kindness is about - and what they actually teach in kindergarten. Along with sharing, helping, using manners, picking up after yourself, and naps.

95% of the playerbase would be banned or quit if action was taken against transphobia, which would mean the company would die.

Ok I get what you are saying and I don’t even know why I care enough to reply to this thread again BUT I just wanted to bring some reality to the fantasy world people here seem to be living in where it’s all sunshine and rainbows.

JUST look at how well what I quoted worked out in Sweden with multi generational children who grew up there, and what those SAME kids are doing right now in that nation. Sorry to inject some reality, but what you said almost never works out aside from getting upvotes on social media.

Yeah those people who make death threats like that to other people, can just shoo.

I will start this by saying that I watched the stream on YouTube. I didn’t watch it when it was live or saw the comments. It makes me sad to think this person was treated in such a way by this community. It’s not ok and people need to start treating each other with kindness and respect no matter what their gender, color, etc. are. We are all people, bottom line and everyone deserves to be treated the same.

To the part I just quoted, what molded their beliefs is they were more than likely raised and grew up in a time where that type of lifestyle was considered very wrong. I know many people don’t want to hear that, but it’s the truth. Just imagine spending your whole life being told by family, friends, society, tv and absolutely everywhere that it was wrong. Then suddenly you are told it’s normal and you had better accept it or you are the bad guy.

Times change. What is considered normal changes. Not everyone has an easy time adjusting to those changes. I am an older person, later 40’s. There are things that are supposed to be accepted now that I was told my whole life by society was wrong. To you younger people out there, there’s going to be something that you are told is wrong. Society and everyone will tell you it’s wrong. You will think it’s wrong. Then later in your life times are going to change and that thing you were told was wrong your whole life will become accepted and no longer wrong. It happens in every generation with something, and it will with yours as well.

It doesn’t make anything that happened today ok. I despise bullies. And people that do that are cowards and bullies. Just because someone is different from us doesn’t give us the right to treat them badly. I congratulate the person on the stream for being themselves and I hope they don’t let the bullies of this community get them down too much.

Versus the system designer?

A complete lack of personality during a AAA product presentation is not transphobia. Everyone, everyone else actually at least acted like they enjoyed working on the game.

I hope you are having a great week, could all use some positivity.

Don’t take the bait!!!

Telling people to get over stuff on the internet while several states governed by a certain party make them the scapegoat of their culture war sure is something.

Please. There is no need to get religious here. Not everyone is a Christian. :relaxed:

I am older than you. The hatred, violence, and abuse aimed at gay or trans people was always vile. MOST people did not act that way. It was not ok even then.

Just because some people perpetrated it, or slung insults at others, does not excuse the behavior today.

When people know better, they can do better. Most people did not hurl those insults IRL - and claiming to be old does not excuse doing it online now.

Now this I agree with.

Oh dear. Is it really necessary to be like this? old timers like me wonder why Generation Z are the most non-religious group and then I remind myself that zealotry still exists. Please don’t be like this. You are only driving people away from our faith.
