Trade chat: Whats your take?

dont care

dont care

yeah

dont care

no

selling things ? …

Ouch :frowning:
It’s always someone ruining it for the few of us, isn’t it?

It’s a shame it ended that way there.
Here in EU it just “disappeared”, seemingly.
We just assumed it was budget cuts, automating things and cutting human-interaction.

Its hard to get a human contact now when reporting issues or so.
Even asking for help is directed to “X webpage of information”, which is OK in a sense but still; Less human interaction, communcation etc.

Actually, they did. For the first few months at least. This is back when the game first launched and GMs were Blizzard employees. It wasn’t until around that 6 month mark that Blizz started to outsource th GM support staff to various call centers around the country. Once this got to expensive for Blizz, that is when the auto.ater systems go put into place and things took to the downhill that it is now.

Now I’m not saying that these GMs were constantly monitoring every channel in the game, but there was active monitoring happening. They did step in and tell people to clam down or they’d be silence, etc. No reports were needed, if a report did happen that is when people got bans for what was being said.

I know on my realm, way back in the day, trade was used for trade and that is pretty much it. Now it is the cesspool meme that it is. Actual GM support is needed in this game, not automated systems.

What’s funny is my server has had the opposite trend as our population has declined. We had some infamous trolls in trade chat that are still remembered a decade later for always pushing the envelope back in the classic era. Now trade is pretty quiet except for this nice senior citizen that updates us on his doctors appointments, computer issues, and remembering what things used to be like.

Yeah I get that, but the “patrolling”-thing could be nice.
Just pop in anyday on AD-EU and you’d see, I guess.

I wish EU and US had more communication with eachother, its why I appreciate having this US acc cause the response here is just more frequent and generally better.
Thanks anyway.

I’ll continue to “Right-report” as I have for years and years when I see someone behave unacceptable, it’s just a shame when it’s so widespread and common that it’s not handled with more control.

I know the AI can cause issues, such as people mass-reporting someone innocent for “reasons” (Example; Streamer typing? Mass report. Auto silence).
That sort of abuse causes issues with using AI to handle these sort of matters…

Most don’t care and never will. Get over yourself

Umm… no. I am not familiar with that incident, but just no.

  1. Blizzard policies are company wide. They don’t care what your individual views are, you follow the policies set forth.
  2. Most of the CS folks are still in Austin, TX. A not so conservative place.
  3. Any GM incident had nothing to do with the change regarding GMs being in game. They did NOT automate GMs.

The old primitive tools required them to enter games to do nearly anything. As the GM tools were re-designed and improved they could do almost all their work from the tool interface, and not enter a game directly. This meant a MUCH faster means to help more players.

They still answer with real people - although sometimes with templates depending on the topic.

What is sort of automated I guess is the self help tools. We now have:

  • unstuck tool instead of waiting on a GM
  • item restore tool instead of waiting on a GM
  • various other things I am not thinking of …

They are there to make common requests easier for players to handle themselves by giving them access to the GM tool to do it.

Blizzard has NEVER outsourced CS/GM support. They have two support locations in the US. Austin, TX, and Irvine, CA. Both on the Blizzard campus.

Recent CS forum post relevant to outsourcing. Friend trying to remove Authenticator and recover account - #4 by Vrakthris

We don’t have much control over what the response times are when they suddenly jump from within 24 hours to well over that, Aventis. We do not outsource our staff so any increase in contact takes time to address. If such contact volume isn’t temporary, it takes time to hire and train additional staff.

  • I think its pretty pointless. I get more value out of the local defense channels saying “Horde is at X,Y” comparatively.

  • What is there to trade that can’t be posted on the Auction House? What are the odds I’m headed to the AH + you actually catch me reading trade chat + what your selling is what I’m buying and your offering it at a lower price? In 2021, where you can Garrison hearthstone to the AH, Dalaran hearthstone to the AH, or mount up for the AH… pretty low.

  • Not anymore

  • Not particularly attached but its very different from the past where the server would have full conversations happening

I’m sure that played big a role as well. Also, the game used to be a lot more buggy. I remember in vanilla getting stuck in places all the time and having to have GMs get me out.

Oh yeah. I died while dead once.
I died to something in Westfall — then left my spirit on autorun, ended up running out in the ocean, died as a ghost.
I had no option to “TP to graveyard” or anything back then… so I was just there - “Uh, what do I do now?”-sort of pikachu face, hehe.

Had to contact a GM that was semi-impressed with my death-on-death encounter (it was early game).
I’m glad they implemented the “Return to graveyard” function. ^^

Here you go:

No one trades in it. That’s my take. The AH needs buy orders so I don’t have to stand around in Oribos barking them out to Trade chat all day.

If we could search by seller I think that would help. I know there are some people on the server that list for certain prices but you can’t find them unless you shoot them in game mail or something.

:man_shrugging: :upside_down_face:

That is indeed part of the improved system. They added the return to grave yard option AND there is also now an un-stuck feature you can use when alive too. People still get stuck and they prefer the players not have to wait for a GM to get to them. If the self help tools don’t work, GMs will still un-stick you though.

Sounds like a rogue GM exceeded their authority.

Yeah, but human interaction would still be nice.
As said; A patrolling GM checking servers every now and then could probably help a lot.
Just spending a day on AD-EU should say enough of why Trade is not acceptable and way beyond “Report-right-click”.

Most people in my friend-circle are rather leaving trade than dealing with it.
And everytime I accidentally have it on, and mention anything about it, it’s all “Just leave trade, it’s beyond saving”.
It needs some patrol, I think.

And, AI is abused, sadly — aaaaand the “self help” function is still, as you say, not guaranteed.
So, A few patrolling GM would be a nice addition back.

That would indeed be a cool function!
There has been occassions where X mog/mount/pet has not been up on AH for a long time - it’d be cool to put in a “Wanted” post so others know someone “needs” that item and bothers putting it up.
Would also exclude the need to ever enable trade and experience the horrible mess in there.

Nope. The guild lost their appeals and Blizzard initially released a press release defending the move.

I recall afterwards “sources” blaming the Texas staff and claiming they weren’t real Blizzard staff since they just did customer service though. Can’t find the inside story on that though now. I think it might have been from the original outlet that broke the story but now no longer has the story available online.

They did try that on Moon Guard US in Elwynn, in particular. Goldshire even. That trial pretty much shut down any future ideas of assigning a GM to monitor chat.

People rushed there to “engage” with the GM and push boundaries so it got WORSE. Players there stopped reporting because they assumed the GM would see it all and stop it them selves.

So it got worse, not better.

Here is a nice example of someone getting reported and Silenced for the sorts of things you see breaking rules.

And that has some clarifications from Blizzard about just why the GMs agreed with the player reports and Silenced them. There were 3 threads that person made ranting last night about penalties. Heh. Reading the Blue response today was nice.
