God, I do miss GMs interacting with people

Okay so - a “random patrolling GM” in the same sense Police random patrol neighbours would, in your view, always make it worse?
I do not think so, since we had the opposite experience back “in the days” -
People thought more about what they said since they COULD get banned for it, or at least “put in the bad corner” for a while, if a GM caught them.
The mass-report has flaws, it’s been proven before too.
People getting reported for being nice - some guilds deciding to harass etc.
Doesn’t ban, but silence.
There has also been poor cases of 2 GMs making decisions in a personal case for me back some months ago on the forums.
They were very biased and that twisted my words and meaning, apparently.
Humans are also not flawless.
None the less, patrolling could help - in my experience.
I mean we can just agree to disagree on that topic, that’s all fine ^^
Whatever it leads to; Trade chat in its current state is BEYOND a mess on some servers (clearly).
I’ve had trade chat turned off since MoP. It’s been nothing but crap show for years.
I come from a server where most of the time, trade chat seems friendly… or at the very least, civil. But I have also seen some whack stuff.
The way the system currently works:
- A ton of reports in a short time can get a person Squelched. This is an automatic response that has been in game for over 10 years to deal mostly with gold spammers/illicit websites. Yes, it can be triggered for other reasons if people abuse it.
- A Silence with all the penalties on it, that stacks each time you get one, is applied by a real GM.
- A Suspension or full Ban is applied by a real GM as well - and is the penalty for false reporting and abusing the report system.
So Blizz does realize that false reporting does happen, but they apply harsher penalties to the people who false report than the ones who got reported. Of course, if the reports were false the person can appeal and get that black mark removed from the account.
I don’t think the Forum Moderation Team is the same as the GM/CS team who takes game tickets.
Similar, and both located primarily in Texas, but two diff teams.
They don’t so much try to “twist” your words. They go by what the average person would think reading it. If your post gets reported then that causes them to review it - and it may get edited, deleted, locked, etc. On occasion, they even suspend people from the forums starting with a 24 hour time out.
Trade chat in the past year was filled with mainly IRL politics and Anti-vaxx stuff. Fun to engage in when in queue, but you have your usual incidences. 8/10 generally; have made WoW friends from it.
WoW, that was a hilarious reading. I loved it.
I have trade chat disabled on all my chars because I really am not interested in reading those conversations. Besides, I think the purpose of the chat is defeated by the existance of the AH
It’s like this in every MMO I play. I just turn off channels and live a happier life with just my guildies to talk to.
I put trade chat in secondary tab the first day I ever played this game.

I would never turn off trade chat because I might miss something I wanted to see, like an item for sale or someone asking for help with something or maybe a guild I am interested in. Usually if I am in Oribos, SW or Garrison its a very short visit and a quick glance for a few sec is all I spare anyhow unless I am waiting for a BG to pop or a CD for something then trade might get a min or 2 of my attention.
If trade is full of politics or children cursing then my eyes can wander away from that little chat box just as easy as they wandered toward it, like when a commercial comes on TV for hemorrhoid cream, unless its a better cream then my current brand.

Except Blizzard does not outsource CS and never has. CS/GM staff operate primarily out of the Blizzard Austin, TX office, with a few also in Irvine CA at HQ.

Its enabled ,but I do not even use the chat channel anymore in game.
There is parental controls for a reason for the youngins.
This isn’t a baby sitting company.
Let the parents be responsible for what their children are doing.
Long gone are the old days of GMS being in chats friend.
Trade chat doesn’t bug me because I can tune it out and plus it’s just hilarious at times.
trade chat once helped me figure out how many pudding cups i’d need to buy to fill up a swimming pool so i like it
I turned it off several expansions ago and don’t miss it. It was rarely used for actual trade. Mostly angsty boys and their unsolicited epeens.
My thought is that I like having a chat environment where people can talk mostly however they want about mostly whatever they want. Even if the result isn’t “wholesome” or whatever, I still prefer having that freedom vs feeling like I have to filter myself because rules are taken too seriously even in conversations that aren’t harmful to anyone.
I would honestly love it if Trade Chat became Global Chat. I like having it there. People who /leave Trade on every character baffle me.
That said, I play on (almost) exclusively RP servers. While things HAVE normalized a fair amount over time (as in: it feels more like a “normal” server), we do still get some nice lore/story discussions going sometimes which is a nice change of pace from the usual blatant trolling, politics, carry spam.
I turned it off at the start of WoD.
Trade Chat grew more and more annoying over time as it filled up with more and more dumb memes that people just regurgitated without even thinking about it.
