Trade Chat Spam Issue

I do wish that pay for boost could have its own channel so I can leave it

It solves moving it from a channel meant for trading. Why wouldn’t you want spam everywhere you go considering you can just leave the channel and still use other channels for their primary intent.

General chat is a thing in cities. Why not separate it from trade and make it a better experience for players wanting to use trade specifically for trading instead of having to sort through the nonsense jabber that constantly runs trade chat?

Then use the Badboy add on, and add to it terms that are commonly used in political chat, carry posts and so on. While it may not remove all the spam, it will certainly cut it down, and you can ignore/report the rest.

There is no action that Blizzard could take to fix it to your satisfaction that would not put the game’s chat channels into a total straightjacket where players were afraid to say anything because it might be considered actionable. Your criteria for acceptable communication is going to vary from others. You need to adjust your view, not expect the game to fit yours, certainly in this instance.

I’m not suggesting to start your own Trade channel, simply that if you find Trade too noisy, adjust how you view it. The Ignore function is for this very purpose - to ignore people’s chat. And if the add on helps, use it.

And, again, even if we had a World channel, why do you think it would be immune to the issues you see in Trade?

My issue is that I shouldn’t have to download an addon, which only fixes the issue partially for me and not for other players wanting to use trade for trading, and neither should anyone else.

The reason why Trade chat is used by the entire community for everything, is because it broadcasts to everyone in all cities. Adding an optional world chat is just going to cause the same problem, but on a global scale to the entire game. Trade chat included.

You’ll just kill one chat channel and replace it with another. And policing the chat channels won’t work, for reasons I’ve already listed.

My issue is that I shouldn’t have to download an addon, which only fixes the issue partially for me and not for other players wanting to use trade for trading, and neither should anyone else. I think if we had a world channel people would use that as it can be accessed from anywhere and not limited to cities. AND I could just leave that channel and stay in trade chat.

“Sdding an optional world chat is just going to cause the same problem” So you are admitting it is a problem?

There wouldn’t be much policing needed as people would be using the worldwide chat channel more than the limited city chat.

blizzard ruined barenns chat so its /2 now

What makes you think people would even use it? They already don’t use General chat which has the intended purpose for general conversation.

I didn’t say spam was a problem, I said it wasn’t bad, and its not.

If you add a world chat one of two things will happen. People will completely disregard it and continue to use trade chat as old habits die hard. Or the world chat will kill the trade chat and an entire servers worth of people will be spamming the world chat with everything from politics to trade, and everything in between.

Its not going to be your magical solution where everyone just starts doing the right thing, because that never happens. People abuse and break things and do whatever is the most convenient thing for them. And policing them and banning people for minor infractions is only going to piss off the entire player base.

Well, the tools are available for you to use. At this point you’re just being stubborn.

Wouldnt that be the point?

No the point is to remove the spam from trade chat and leave it for only the traders. But A world chat would give you infinitely more visibility for trading than a city only chat channel. Everyone would be using it. It doesn’t solve anything.

I think adding a separate worldwide channel that people are opted into by default would not only take the “non-trade” chat out of Trade letting players use the channel for it’s intent, but also promote more of a community sense in the game having the channel not be limited by city residence. If players didn’t want to see the spam of world chat they could easily leave the channel and still be able to use the city-limited Trade chat for trading. People wouldn’t have to download third party addons and constantly ignoring people and dealing with the ignore list cap; they would simply leave the world channel.

I think I’ve expressed my opinion and do retract my statement about selling carries in trade, though I do personally find it annoying. I’m not trying to have anyone silenced or punished for engaging in the community. I’m just trying to open up options for people that don’t want to see all of that chat if they choose not to and still be able to engage in fundamentals of the game such as trading. I think we’d all agree that actually trading with a player instead of an AH interface does promote more of a community sense to the game.

Anyway, I’ll leave my thought here. Thanks everyone for responding.

Yes. I want a channel labeled “Trash Talk.” And another labeled “Mercenaries for Hire.”

Obviously you are free to express your opinions and provide feedback. But in the time it took for you to even create this thread at all, you could have fixed your own issue. You just didn’t want to for reasons unknown.

I agree with Kentaurus response. There is a tool available to you, and I’ve made mine spam free. I don’t get any political or boost/sales chat in /2. You just have to know what to add to the filter for your server. The only time I see anything is if I have it disabled. and I’m on a High Pop server.

Well, I think LookingforGroup is still active and works in all area of the game. Maybe you could try using that. Then again, it isn’t what the channel was created for, which is sort of your issue about Trade. And a World channel was for general communications across the game, not for buying and selling so you would again not be using a channel for its intended purpose.

I guess we have hit a wall because you want something that appears to be unworkable. Does Trade have spam? Yes it does. And in the comment I linked to you, a Blue indicated that if someone is spamming, you can report them and if they are judged to be spamming, they may very well receive some form of punishment, such as a silence. Which appears to be exactly what you are asking for.

I think I’ll just leave it at that.

Heres the thing. I mess around as much as the next guy in trade chat. But after playing the launch of classic, I learned how much better a global world chat is. Its basicly “trade chat banter” anywhere I am. We would have conversations all day during the countless hours of leveling and it made it that much more tolerable. Sitting in sw just to have a chat isnt appealing. I dont see why anyone would be against this? When you dont want to be in world chat anymore just type /leave 4. join again when you feel like it.

He wants to solve his issue for everyone though and just thinks his ideas would fix everything. But that only works in a perfect world and people aren’t going to react the way you think they will. We’re too complex for such a simple solution.

Yeah, but the thing is the community already has. lol They just didn’t want to hear it.
