Trade Chat Spam Issue

Token sales to finance these carries are a big part of the profit model now. They are not going away without a big change in philosophy.

So then why do you care if you don’t use it? Do you just want to keep your chat logs clean? Avoiding the political posts? Why do you think everyone should get policed for something as pointless as “spamming” trade chat?

I don’t see the problem here other than people actually holding conversations in trade chat, which could be moved to general chat, but unless you have multiple chat windows in game, you’re going to see the spam either way.

I agree and maybe I should have left that out because my primary concern is not being able to see trade chat at all because of other spam. I just think there should be a separate channel for everyone to talk about “general” things.

Ok pretty sure you say BAN here, or did I mis-read?

Meaning you want politics banned from the other channels.

Read your own OP…OP.

I have played since “Vanilla” beta and yes it has.

I don’t use it because of the state of the channel. Posting in the channel would be fruitless due to people not being able to read much of the channel at all. Moving everything else to general would be a great solution as I can just turn the general channel off and use trade chat for you know…actually trading.

LMAO! The beta even…sure it wasn’t Alpha?

Technically Trade does actually refer to the trading of goods and services between players in game and not the trading of insults with each other.

You think the amount of chat going on in today’s trade chat has the sheer volume as vanilla? With the server size limitations? People’s access to gaming computers? I would disagree. There is more chat now and it makes it much harder to read chat.

I disagree, I’ve played on numerous high pop and full servers and used the trade chat for its intended use without issue. Its not a problem of people being able to catch your offers, its an issue of interest in what you’re offering.

Its more than just spam, its also the time you’re trading, and the people who are looking, and most people are going to look on the AH rather than trade with someone unless the deals are better.

It also depends on how long you’re willing to stand there and try to find a buyer/seller for what you want.

I was making fun of the poster. You missed that I guess.

Then they need to make a World Chat channel.

Trade chat was made for what it is named for trading goods and services in game between players.

Trade has ALWAYS been like this. Why do people act like its actually used for trading.

Regardless whether you believe the issue lies in other things, the channel should be separate into two channels: one for trading and one for general chat.

There already is a general chat, and the community on every server has deemed that they will use Trade chat. Again, unless you have multiple chat windows in game, you will still see the spam in the chat logs.

Nope, I started in Sept. 2004 with the Beta testing.

Trade has always had banter in it, yes, though now the sheer number of people talking in chat makes it almost impossible to actually trade other than spamming an entire chat window post about selling runs. What’s so bad about separating into two channels?

That’s what YOU can do.

If you feel that one or more people are spamming a topic in chat, report them and ignore them. Or simply create your own channel and move to it, so you don’t see any of it during your time in a Trade chat hub.

And creating new official channels - people come up with this idea now and then without ever showing a way to control who talks in it about what.

That’s not enough for him though. He wants it to be policed and separated for everyone, so that he can actively use trade chat more and have more visibility.

Of course reporting should be done, but ignoring doesn’t fix the issue of other people trying to use the channel for trading. People shouldn’t have to ignore people and use addons to use a channel in a video game for it’s fundamental intent. Creating my own channel for “trading” is not a viable solutions. The “Trade” chat is in game already.

If there was a “world” channel that people could access outside of major cities, I think more people would gravitate toward that anyway based on no limitations.
